QUOTE(anfieldude @ Nov 24 2009, 11:35 AM) The problem with broadcasts these days is that even internationally there are only a few players. Most of the Rupert M owned companies are are also monopolising the industry worldwide. I suppose that means they can dictate content pricing to the providers like Astro Which ultimately gets passed down to the consumers...

The thing is, is all channels going to be in HD or just National Geographic or Discovery? Can you imagine seeing the difference when switching from those channels...?

But interestingly CNN, BBC, Al-Jazeera, CNBC already in HD, it's the future trend! Everything in HD, so that we can see who hold the pepper spray in clarity and no more argument. Just like past day, you cannot say news no need to be in colour, only dramas.

well, the plan is 2015 all analog shut down, and you hardly get SD shows coz all US series in HD, all tvb drama in HD, korean drama in HD, japanese drama in HD, even china CCTV already launched CCTV HD. RTM already prepare for HD, others FTA will soon go HD, and no more SD as we hv no more black and white broadcast.

side news from retailer
ASTRO HD will be having around 5 HD channels with resolution 1080i.. They included National Geo and HBO..
Thus, only viewer who take those packages can install the HD decoder from ASTRO.. The freq required for HD signal is very high.. Those using Main disc in apartments cannot use the HD service as it need special bigger disc..And those with bad quality wall conceal coaxial cable (usually developer wanna save cost then use china mada wire) also will having problem to use it..

Total digital FTA channel to be 19, including RTM and Media Prima. So there are some empty slot for new channel to be introduced.
RTM HD whenever trial run will be aired to whole Klang Valley. Thus any USB TV receiver with DVB-T will able to capture the signal, even now you can receive some trial channel in clarity and with EPG. Also some digital RTM radio channel.
