maybe if you move to Sarawak, you can have one

come to think of it, I recall someone having a 3~4 ft dish in the air well of his terrace house... yawn.gif

Anyone know why in East MY it's so common to find those big dishes? Technically they are still illegal right? So the authorities there close one eye (or both smile.gif)?

Reading in between the lines

"In addition, we cannot ignore new media anymore." means we must find NEW ways and means of squeezing every sen from the customer.

"we cannot forget our top-end customers who demand more of us." means we will sharpen our knife and start cutting the 'water' fish - by demand more money from them. Ha ha ha we have the monopoly and they have no choice!

There rest I leave it to your imagination and experience. As far as I'm concern, especially the PVR stuff I will wait till I see it actually being implement. In the meantime WDTV Live is the better deal.

First, let's be realistic... Astro is a business. And like all businesses, of course they must find new revenue streams. To expect that Astro will give you HD transmission without increase is naive.

Where Astro has an unfair advantage is that it monopolises the market here, so they are able to squeeze the consumers harder. That part I don't like. If there was competition then there may still be an increase in price but perhaps to a smaller extent.

the way the broadcast biz works these days, competition isn't really going to solve all the problems.

take for example, if there was a competitor to Astro - and you're subscribed to their services. The Astro bids for and wins the World Cup broadcast rights. The only way to watch WC is to subscribe to Astro, and now you have two useless pay-TV accounts. Short term like WC is ok, but what if it's a long term thing like the EPL, or something you really really want to watch...

True also. It depends on the content that the provider is able to get.

Competition won't solve all the problems, but it's one step in the right direction.

The problem with broadcasts these days is that even internationally there are only a few players. Most of the Rupert M owned companies are are also monopolising the industry worldwide.

I suppose that means they can dictate content pricing to the providers like Astro smile.gif Which ultimately gets passed down to the consumers...
