haha i've always wondered that myself. i guess we just dont have to worry about that. i wont be surprised to see a 5400rpm drive fail after 2 weeks, and another 7200rpm drive running great after 7 years. just have a full backup and live happily tongue.gif

in theory a 5400rpm disc would last longer than a 7200rpm but in the real world, as dvlz mentioned either one could die on you just like that.

the faster the drive, the more heat it emits, and the more power it consumes hold true in theory and real life though.

before the upgrade, my start time is around 20 sec and shutdown around 4 sec and after the upgrade the time still the same or maybe faster a lil bit. On my mbp, i dont use a partiton.

yeah.. the upgrade steps you take plays a factor.

if you opt for an ssd upgrade prior to rams, you won't "feel" the ram upgrade doing much.

SSD start up should be around 10-15 seconds.
depending on which SSD models.
fastest ones are OCZ Vertex 3 and OCW Mercury Electra 6G

just to clear things up, my boot time after using stopwatch is;

1) Boot time: 33 - 35 sec

2) Shutdown: 3 - 4 sec
