VRTech will charge you around RM50 to replace RAM & HDD .. just bring your own RAM module and HDD .. call them first and make an appointment.

Need to upgrade my mid-2010 MBP 15" i5 and someone is selling a dual-channel Corsair 8GB DDR3 1333. I know the standard RAM uses DDR 1066, so before buying, can anyone advice that it will work okay on the mid-2010 MBP? The model of the RAM is CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9, the guy is selling it for RM200. It seems that Corsair has Apple certified SODIMM RAM for a little bit more.

sixfooter, so what do you know about the momentus xt? Will it be a viable upgrade? I've replaced my (now) mid-MBP2010 HD from the standard 250GB 5400rpm to 500GB 7200rpm .. I didn't know that it vibrates that much (my wife was using it all this while until last week).. now I know how bad it vibrates.
anyway, didn't get any reply on my question on the crucial 8GB dual channel SODIMM, so, bought it anyway.. hopefully will get it either tomorrow or saturday and will see if it works with the MBP2010.

The other reason for not choosing the 7200rpm is the vibration issue. This has been acknowledge by Apple as found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2666.

Anybody using OCZ Vertex 2 120GB on MBP? How is it? Saw someone selling it for a quite good price for 120GB. What is the usable HD space?

if you're using it on 2011 Mac models then its not fully utilizing SATA 3, Vertex 2 is SATA 2
*
Mine is the mid-2010 MBP model and not the 2011 ones. I believe it is only SATA2.

Thanks Wei, I believe should be a good enough for me .. currently using the Intel X25M 120GB in my desktop and it is returning 119.69GB.

OK boss.. going to Lowyat in an hour from now.. maybe getting 2 stick of 4gb ram..
*
If possible, get the dual channel SODIMM RAM .. 4GBx2 instead of a single channel 4GB ones.

Added on September 17, 2011, 10:04 amBTW, was thinking that I could live with the 7200rpm HD on my hackintosh desktop and trying to move the SSD to my MBP.. first few boot-ups .. I given up, couldn't wait that long for it to boot up and for applications to fire up.. so the SSD went back again on the hackintosh desktop.. will get that OCZ V2 later for the MBP smile.gif

Why someone need 16GB of RAM on a laptop? You run virtualization x2/x3? Run 20-30 apps all the time? Or you using some RAM hungry app?
*
Haha, upgraded my desktop to 16GB thinking of running multiple VMs .. to the end, just run one VM and it doesn't use more than 8GB right now.. what a waste really..

Check out the sellers in Garage Sales section, got an OEM X25M 160GB for RM500, only a month warranty though. Works great on my mid-2010 MBP .. the boot up is cut down to only 5sec .. and launching application is a snap too.

Is my MacBook white (late 09) model able to replace HDD wit the SSD? I saw the seller selling 1.8". Is it fit in my MacBook? Btw, the installation procedures are same with normal HDD? Clone it follow by plug and play? Or need to enable smth? Sorry I'm new to SSD thingy.
*
1.8" SSD will not be a drop-in replacement for the HDD. You need to get a SATA to micro-SATA adaptor and the 2.5" case for it too. Yes, you can clone the HDD to SSD and when done, you can just plug in the SSD to replace the HDD.

multiplexer, do you feel the vibration? Somehow, on my old end-2006 MBP, using the same Hitachi 7200rpm/500GB, I couldn't feel it .. but on my mid-2010 .. the vibration is terrible..

Haha, can vouch on this one .. my desktop is on SSD, my ex-MBA (now wifey's) also on SSD but after swapping with my wife's MBP .. feel the MBP was damn slow, so, upgraded that MBP to SSD too ..

finally deciding to get OWC SSD with data doubler. Dont really need the optical drive. Hopefully everything works fine.

Wow, that data doubler is 3x the price you could get from the ebay. But I guess it worth to go for a branded one ..
