Dear wei,
I've tried to dismantle the Apple's RAID card this afternoon, to find out that my Mac Pro can't detect all hard drive. I realize there is a cable attached to the RAID. Is that the SATA cable to all Hdd? And how to connect back to it's own I/O port?
*
Maybe you can send me a photo. As I aware, RAID card uses a special SAS/ Serial cable.

What keyboard is that?

Most keyboard are not serviceable part, in Apple terms means replace if any defects, unless it's a mechanism problem.

What you meant by "come out"? As in disconnected from the main body?

If it keep falling out meaning your key must have broken tabs. Pay attention to any part that's broken. You can try ask Service Center if they have spare key for you.

I have a 1997-2004 Office Word file ( From Windows ) transferred to my MacBookPro and tried to view it on Office 2011 Mac Edition , but it keeps popping out the spelling check error till i can't edit or do anything to the file , i found a resolution to this which is turn off the spell check as you type. my question is are 1997-2004 word file not compatible with office 2011 mac? Urgent
*
It's a bug that Microsoft created. Have you update your Office for Mac 2011 to the latest patch?
If you google, many have reported this problem. Not related to which year the file created from.

Did you dropped the unit or anything strange happen to your unit? Normally that means hardware fault. Try check system profiler under USB if the camera is detected.

* Having a problem guys *

I have an external that is running NTFS and it receives all my back up like for 2 years.. So now on the Mac when i try to make a folder in that external , i can't ? Why is this ?

Is there any solution cause i dont have another 1TB of external to do a duplicate..

Kindly advice , urgent
*
Mac OS till today can't write NTFS by default, so you need to teach it how to do so by adding 3rd party apps. You can try Paragon NTFS or Tuxera NTFS. If you want free and being adventurous: http://ntfsonmac.com/index1.html?utm_expid=54562258-1

Okay installed paragon.

Now i decided i wanna get another 1TB 3.5" Ext

But the thing is , if i format my old 1TB 3.5" from NTFS to HFS+

will this work for time machine ? since this HDD wasn't " MAC READY "

What are they main concerns of having a Mac Ready HDD / HFS+ format HDD ? Any limitations ?

on the side line , any suggestions for good 1TB ext 2.5"/3.5" USB3.0
*
Yes, so long it's formatted into Mac OS partition, the moment you mount the drive, your Mac will prompt you if you want to use it as TimeMachine backup drive.

As of what type is good, it's very subjective, some ppl have their own brand preferences. I'm using a few WD Studio (portable and desktop) so far so good.

i finally got the guts and tools to do this. skill is still questionable  tongue.gif
i opened up the glass top and started wiping the lcd. to my dismay, the smudge does not come off. on closer inspection, it looks like the smudge is within the lcd (or something like that). is there anything else i can do?
*
No, it means the dust/ stain is within the LCD, which is sealed tight. I can only think of replacing the LCD at this stage.

Wei , you are very knowledagble about Apple !

So i wanted to ask you , Time Machine how does the backup work ?

I suggest you study:

QUOTE(carbonfibre @ Aug 27 2012, 02:46 PM)
if i have 20GB Music + 20GB Pics + 20GB Documents +20GB Apps = 80GB Total HDD space taken on my HDD

so when i use Time Machine it backs up the whole file so = 80GB or it backs up an image so it would be less than 80GB ?

It should be less, but please understand that TimeMachine by default, backups whole boot volume. That include system folders. So your file size should be larger.

QUOTE(carbonfibre @ Aug 27 2012, 02:46 PM)
If the HDD is HFS+ format what are the limitation when connecting to Windows PC?

Windows can't read HFS+ by default. You will need app like MacDrive to enable it. When you plug in a Mac formatted drive windows will tell you it's not recognize and ask you to format it.

WD Studio only USB 2.0 right? Any recommendation for USB 3.0 ? Besides speed is USB3.0 better than FW800?
*
WD also have USB3 drives, but not the Mac range. I presume they will release USB3 Mac drive soon, since recent 2012 model came with USB3.

Hi all,

I did a quick search and did not seem to find an answer, so am hoping if someone here can help me. My friend has a Macbook Air running Lion and he has problems connecting to the WiFi. He can connect to wifi networks at home, outside, cafes, but not in the office. I have tried to help him change the wifi channel to 1 and 6, but doesn't work as well. The wifi network is running WPA2, just in case some of you are wondering.

Is there really any solution to this? Thank you very much in advance.
*
It can't connect or connected but unable to go online? If connected but can't go online, please ensure you set the DNS.
If can't connect, what are the error? Timeout? Is the signal strength good enough? Have you try WEP?

If that's the case, I suggest:
- use cable.
- setup a sub network for the Air.
Be sure you confirm the password works on other machines/ Mac.

If you have warranty, send to service center. If not I suggest you try one of the following:
- Replace to stock RAM and try again.
- Boot from other sources and try again.

If the issues does not affect stability, I suggest you just ignore it while pay attention to the temperature.

guys ,

transfer of files from a NTFS to HFS+ ext HDD

any limitations ?
*
What kind of "limitation" you talking about?
So long you can read & write to both formatting, you will get the same data once copied.

So long your Mac can read write both shouldn't be a problem, if you worried, just test the copied data before deleting the original.

Have you try repair the keychain?

Backups not really, as I always use TimeMachines.
Cloning: CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner) will report.
Synchronize: ChronoSync will sort of report if the target file is problematic.

try making a new keychain, but you will have to re-key-in all stored password. Usually this will happen if you:
1) Reset your admin password.
2) Changed your username.
3) Migrated your user folder.

Hi,

I have a mid-2012 MacBook Air and just upgraded to 10.8.1 ML. But upon upgrading, i find that the sound quality from its speakers dropped a lot. The sound was great when it was running on the Lion 10.7.4 which came pre-installed.

I tried different music players like VLC, iTunes, Vox but all of them dont sound good anymore. Is there something like an audio driver that needs to be installed like Windows based PC? Just started out on a Mac here.

Cheers.
*
10.8.2 just out, you might want to try that. Did you install any audio driver/ app that might alter the audio setting?

You can't really do much on the indication. You can bring it to service center for a check, or simply ignore it until you see "replace now". Then you will need a new battery.

If you still not happy, you can try one of the following to experiment:
- Install older/current but fresh OS on external source and try play from it.
- Create a new user account from your internal boot-up drive and try from it.

That way you can confirm if it is your hardware or merely software issues.

Call AppleCare, voice your issues to them. You can collect your unit repaired or not and send to UK service center. Believe me, you might get it back way much faster in UK.

How should I go about reclaiming a new charger here in Malaysia coz I bought it from the Online Store? Would they just check the serial ID of my MBP? rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif
*
Bring your Mac and charger along and visit your nearest Authorized Service Center. (Prefer not to go to the one in Mid Valley). If you have problem walking in, call AppleCare hotline.
