ya.thanks for all comment.Personally i think that he does not fit the 1st class honors from Nottingham because of his in mature thinking. Actually I'm an accountancy student and it same goes to my gf which is completing her last 2 papers. Its kind of insulting for all students whom are doing accountancy and ACCA.

If he's referring to the computational aspects, I don't blame him because of the nature of his course. But P papers will take a toll on those who are not used to thinking critically

I guess it will be suitable thread for me to post something here regarding a student from University of Nottingham,Malaysia.I met a friend of mine and he is a student from Nottingham, and he just graduated from the uni as an E&E first class honours student. Can you imagine what did he critize on?He said that ACCA papers are so easy which everyone should score on the paper and should not fail it.I would like mentioned,ACCA is a professional paper and qualification.Just wondering that does he qualify as an first class honours from Nottingham University?

Ha Ha, to study ACCA, when you think it is easy, then it become more difficult. May be in his mind, ACCA student only go for exam, so the exam should be easier than his E & E 1st class honours degree.

Btw, since he said ACCA so easy, why not ask him to take ACCA? You should challenge him and give target to him. Give him a suggestion, if he can straight pass all paperd with high score may be 80++ in 2 1/2 yrs, then may be you pay the exam fee for him. If he can't do that, ask him pay your exam fees la. Ha Ha.

I've been frequenting this thread for quite some time now and don't mind me asking, Topace, what papers are you currently sitting for or have you already graduated? You seem very well versed in all things ACCA lol

Hi guys,

I am joining the upcoming Deloitte Tax Challenge and few legislations will be tested in the challenge.

I am wondering, is there any website where we can download the actual legislation of certain Acts such as Malaysia Income Tax Act, the real Act, word by word as approved by Parliament?

Thanks

Well I guess what is freely available on the internet isn't as valuable then. Unless you know someone in the Tax department, I don't see any other way

We rarely refer to income tax act for 2 reason :
- its extremely thick & hard to navigate
- tax law updated annualy so its hard to distinguish which is new or old

Solution : We refer to Public Ruling. (In Malaysia only).
Here is one of the link :
http://www.ird.govt.nz/technical-tax/public-rulings/

Or you can simply refer to CKF text book.

Tax is like law & there are bound to be some loopholes waiting to be explored. When successfully exploited, govt will come to argue then bring mattters to court if both parties unwilling to come into compromise (which is often the case). Suffice to say Govt always lose in court case but they learn from mistake by making new amendments with those tax cases they losed.

Tax is quite subjective since you can see things from many angles. I always encounter arguments in P6 when both lecturer & examiner have differing views & both are correct, so its all about assumptions.

Of all papers in ACCA, I find Tax is the most useful paper to attract "non-accounting people" to listen to you. Just say this magic word "I can help you to reduce your tax to zero without any expenditure incurred". Of course you must know b4 you brag tongue.gif

P1 is a new syllabus & is purely theory so its very unlikely to undergo any change in syllabus anytime soon unless another public scandal like Enron occurs. You can still use his notes for Dec 09 sitting.

hey Topace111, thanks for replying..

wanna ask again, is it enough to study Parmindar's RE + RI only in order to pass? cos one of my friends told me so, as he only studied his RE + RI without attending his class and managed to pass 2 sittings ago(Dec 08).. but i have doubts.. anyone else care to share your experiences with P1?

thanks a lot..

No offense, but what is your objective from asking such a question?

a) Do you want us to validate your shortcut and justify that your way of cutting corners will pass?
b) Tell you it's not enough, so we can scare you into studying more?

Shouldn't you for one know better how much you know about P1?
Shouldn't you know how you normally react when faced with exam questions under exam circumstances?
Are you prepared for the unexpected?

It is said that we prepare for the worst, and hope for the best.
We do not prepare for the best that may not happen, and later on, suffering from fear of the worst.
