how about disted? anyone took CAT~ACCA course at disted? how was it?

i meant Sentral. I considered Disted before too, but i think among the 3, Disted is the lowest ranked and is the most expensive. You can always pm me for more info.

am currently searching for CAT T1 and T3 text books/notes from any lecturer, the more the better..

are any forumers wanting to release their notes or is there any forum i can go to obtain these materials?

Orange is selling BPP. So far I only know KSA as the place to obtain Kaplan text, and unfortunately they do not sell to non-students.
Googled and found out that people buy it from Singapore.

It's really pricey to order from Singapore though, S$80 for the text and S$45 for the kit (Kaplan Singapore).

I have raised the matter to Kaplan, they replied that their office in Singapore supplies Kaplan material to Malaysia due to cost effectiveness (cost of shipping material from the UK).

Most of the colleges fail to update the library books, regardless of which publisher.

I know Sunway library update their BPP textbooks, at least once a year.

Now Kasturi is not selling different courses books even for students-unless i am mistaken in the matter
for eg u r a p2 student only.u want to buy ,say p3.the answer is no,u cant buy it.
i think i go 4 gtg 4 some theory parts.. or bpp since i cant afford the books mentioned.

If i may need to work overseas(sorta of a family issue) in future,which one of the papers should i take ,p4 or p5?
and which lecturer explains theory part the best?

sad thing is i dun use bpp. yet. maybe later on when i have mastered the basics i might use bpp.

but for now i am comfortable with kaplan. T_______T

btw, what is the old syllybus name for F1 F2 n F3? coz i wanna check out their past year. i know it has changed alot, but i would like to just see their questions. coz acca global have the old syllybus past year paper but i duno what the name is for those 3 papers.


sad thing is, i really duno what the lecturer is talking about in class. zzzz waste 6 hours today.

i was hoping that lecturers can guide or at least help me understand the topics a little bit more compared to study on my own. in the end i still have to depend on books..

IMHO, OBU is more like a safety net for students who can't obtain their ACCA.
Complete a thesis according to the stated regulations and you will obtain a degree.
But bear in mind that the OBU is a lower qualification as compared with the ACCA qualification you have in hand.

CIA-will be an add on for you if your interest lies in internal auditing.
But once again, a CIA will boost your resume if you want to be an internal auditor through and through.
Internal auditing(P1) differs from the normal auditing(F8).

Since you have already obtained the ACCA, my advice is to keep your cash (entry fee for OBU) and use it to get the CIA,
if and ONLY IF:
1) it is a requirement by your employer
2) internal auditing is your passion
3) you want to specialise in the field of internal auditing

Other qualifications to enhance your ACCA that are much sought after by employers:
a) CFA
b) CFP
c) other accounting qualifications like ICAEW, CIMA, CPA, etc.

hi newbie here. want to get some info for my daugther who wants to take CAT.

want to know the whole fees from CAT to ACCA in sunway college and also tarc. how much difference?

for sunway or tarc can my daughter apply ptptn loan? or any place offers ACCA and CAT too? can i know the price?

my daugther does not have any knowledge in accounting as she nvr take that subject in spm. can she catch up wif the existing students?

hope you all give me complete info.

1) Fees can't help, call Sunway to ask
2) Don't worry a SINGLE bit about that, what we learn in SPM is merely BOOK KEEPING and very little on the surface on accounting, just a little to catch up and after 1 month it's on the level playing field.

Ya aware of that but heard some rumours that THAT has been postponed.

1. TARC is pretty cheap, i think they provide 100% scholarship if you get 10As, or something like that. I am from Penang, i can see that the quality of students in Penang TARC leaves much to be desired.

2.I don't think they provide PTPTN loan for CAT and ACCA courses, i emailed PTPTN and they said they only provide for diploma and degree course. CAT and ACCA are considered as professional courses.

3.Do not worry, i took CAT last year with no prior experience in accounting at all, it is not going to be a problem.

Can't see how PR-if u mean Public Relations will require any add-ons as having an ACCA thus makes u rather qualified if in fact the ACCA is relevant to PR.
Perhaps other forumers may have more info on this aspect.

Background info:
Tarc does not offer CAT courses as their course is linked to ACCA upon a student's completion of selected papers in the Diploma level with an exemption of 9 ACCA papers, only requiring the completion of Professional Papers {P1-3, P4-7(option of two)}

IMHO...
With regards to the timing, the whole process to obtain an ACCA qualification in TARC is roughly 4 years...
Whereas, using the CAT route, the course may be as short as 2.5 years...

The plus factor for obtaining the qualification in TARC is the Diploma safety net as the student will have their Diploma is unable to complete the ACCA papers.

Money wise, Sunway is a Platinum status tuition provider for ACCA, hence demanding slightly pricier fees, but bear in mind that Sunway offers tests to gage the student's progress (Progress Tests) and are also strict in allowing the students to sit for examinations.

Other colleges with quality education at dropped prices (when compared with SyUC) are Kasturi College, Kolej Bandar.

Students tend to follow the lecturers that are the best for the subject.
It is advised that you refer to the first page of this forum for further info on competent lecturers in the market.

If your daughter dont mind jumping classes between different centres here & there. My total cost from CAT to complete acca (inclusive UK acca fees) around RM20k. If want to stick with one uni /college maybe much more than that.
