UT has 7 (6+1) phase digital power regulation, transpiper heatpipes, fancy audio module, dual LAN, Firewire, and additional Silicon Image 3132 RAID controller (since SB600 sucks arse).

FXB has SB750, ACC (not applicable for PhII anyway), 5 phase (4+1) Power regs, native 6 port SATA support (thanks to SB700+++)

It's like say, Asus ROG vs their normal ____ PRO/DELUXE boards.
*
acc does work on deneb in some cases, thou very few of 'em. nod.gif

d fancy heatpipes + others are just gimmick to me. i've tried that board b4, d heatpipe aint really performin gud as i got full load temp @ ~60'C. i can have better temp w/ diy or 3rd party coolers. well, i got nothing to say bout d extra raid controller thou, it mite be useful for those who need extra sata ports & performance on raid. but i faced no problem w/ sb600 on raid, be it on ta690g or ax78 or even d ut. guess i'm lucky enuf. laugh.gif

to each their own but ut board is not gonna be in my wish list, not until i have lotsa extra cash which i dunno how to spend (very unlikely). tongue.gif

I'm just in for the digital 7 phase.

If it's analog regs, phases don't mean that much as it depends on the quality of the components. But since literally nobody makes digital ones (besides from Volterra and Pulse) they're rather good. biggrin.gif

Plus for RM400 it seems like a nice bet for some time to come (especially if a 6 core Phenom II actually happens, and if I want to OC that I better have stable power etc)

EDIT: Oh, and I heard that digital power regs tend to get hot easily. Best way to cool them? (since they're not covered by the heatpipes adequately)

no doubt full digital pwm is better, but if it get hot easily + not cooled properly, wouldn't that make it similar to a properly cooled x-phase digital pwm? hmm.gif

gotta admit that 4 + 1 phase is a 'lil too few, but considerin d price i paid i couldn't ask for more. heck, even msi 790gx plat & giga's 790gx (same amount of power phase) are sellin bout $20 bux more expensive than d fxb. doh.gif

i agreed that ut is a great board but how many of us expect sb can greatly influence d oc mileage of amd chips? there are many cases proved that chips (be it agena or deneb) clock better on sb750 boards, so for now i wouldn't ignore importance of d newer sb. RM400 for an ut board is definitely worth it, but older tech vs newer tech issue (sb) make it a give and take scenario. it all depends on which one u choose. for me, i'll take better oc mileage for sure. wink.gif

d surface of those components (are those regs???) are very small, i doubt that u can put anything on 'em (even to stick something small like small chipset coolers), to make thing worse, there is no mountin holes... sweat.gif

I wish DFI mobo's prices are like in SG ler but as it stand in Msia DFI is still pricier about RM40~50 from competing M or G board sweat.gif

No lah. The new MSI 790FX is outrageously priced biggrin.gif

@ah_khoo thanks for the opinions!

Those small alum blocks might help a little, at least much better than naked exposure... thermal epoxy/paste mixture I assume would work, right?

Oh and I found these:

no, those tr mosfet cooler can't sit properly on those digital regs imo, d surface are way to small to withstand d weight. best bet is gettin el-cheapo mosfet coolers from uglyvamp (like those i use on ta790gx but lower profile), they're very lite & cheap, but still, i can't guarantee that will work unless u put gam gajah... sweat.gif

dun forget u need certain clearance for d cpu cooler as well... nod.gif

i got this email from biostar technician.. it is true??

Dear Sir

http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en-us/t-seri...rt.php?S_ID=377
As our CPU support list, 940 CPU will be supported by TA790GX 128M motherboard.

The frequency of 940 CPU is 3000 MHz, which is higher than 9950 CPU with 2600 MHz.
Also the CPU cores are different design, so the 940 CPU temperature might gets higher.

Question:

hai, i have some question here.. why my proc temp fore phenom II x4 940 Black edition is higher than my previous proc which is Phenom 9950 black edition?

this is my setting for Phenom 9950.
mobo - Biostar TA790gx 128m
cooling - Sunbeam CCF + TX2
Casing - CM690
Temp - 39 to 42 idle.. 47 to 52 load...(the temp at bios same like in software)

my setting for Phenom II x4 940
mobo - TA790gx 128m
cooling - Sunbeam CCF + TX2
Casing - CM690
Temp - 49- 50 idle... 57-60 load...(but the temp at bios show 36-40)

What i see is the temp at the bios is different from the temp when using software like Coretemp, Everest. but the temp using biostar Hardware Monitor is same like in bios.
The temp for phenom II should be lower than Phenom one rite since phenom II using 45nm..

Can this motherboard support 45nm proc??

again, i'd say bios is d culprit. but if biostar hardware monitor is showin correct temp, why are u so bothered? if u want cpuid hwmonitor to work, try out others bios. for sure 790gx 128M can support 45nm chips, x3 720 b.e is d perfect example. wink.gif

they were partly rite as higher clock speed leads to higher temp, but it's diff process (nm thingy) & minor changes in architecture we're talkin here. i'm convinced that deneb is a 'lil cooler than agena if not a lot after i tested x3 720b.e myself. nod.gif

just d matter of time b4 u switch to better board... brows.gif

for official bios it's ok to use d windows based flasher (come w/ d cd), but if beta bios u better off flashin 'em w/ dos based flasher. smile.gif
