it would help if you can snap a picture showing how dark is the screen when you are watching from what source, and you current setting
*
my current setting are:

viewing mode: normal
contrast: 100
brightness: +10
colour : 55
sharpness: 40
colour balance: cool
colour management: off
eco mode: off
P-NR: min
3D-Comb: off

can all sifu show your setting also as reference?

able to go in the service menu and my plasma's operation hours now is 133 hours for 2 weeks (keke). n i saw that's a contrast column in the service menu also. can i increase from there? n how the setting?

@termite9, it is advise not to chg any setting under service menu unless u r clear what u r trying to do.

btw, why your brightness only 10? i saw ppl setting is at 70, contrast at about 80 depends on one preference

if altering user accessible settings can not improve the brightness any further, a few options are avaible to improve your set:

buy colourimeter and calibrate yourself,
or pay calibrator to do it for you,
or waiting for someone to be kind enough to publish their calibrated offset for X10

I would advise you to reduce the contrast for now. This is too bright.

strange, normally manufacturer calibrate their set to display in vibrant and bright colour mode to attract more customers to buy.
check your source machine and cable.

last resort is to lodge a complaint to panasonic, may be they will calibrate your set for free

Perhaps best to complain to the shop you brought it from, and get them to come and take a look.

Let me try to understand your problem. What do u mean by dark? Not enough contrast, or not enough shadow details. The brightness is actually a black level adjustment and the contrast is actually a white level adjustment. At these contrast settings and your current mode your windowed patterned is actually very high. It shd be more that 50ft/L. Is your TV in room of high ambient lighting? White colour looking grey is not correct. I have calibrated the older Pannys, contrast setting on the cinema mode was definately not that high. And the white was D65 white. You might need to get a LCD if this is what u want. Remember that the colours and greyscale are totally out of whack at these levels, unless ur set is a faulty set.

Brightness and contrast ratio I set to max. Run everyday before I sleep for 8 hours. Completed break-in in 10 days.

Hi Guys and Sifus,

I'm a newbie in lowyat.net and have been following this forum with keen interest. I'm considering to get this latest Panasonic plasma but not sure what size will be suitable for my living room. Viewing distance approximately 8 to 9 ft. Hoping that sifus here can help me out.

Also, where can I get the best deals for both the 42" and the 50"? Went to Legend yesterday and their best price is RM3500 cash for the 42" and RM5500 cash for the 50". Tried to bargain but they wouldn't budge. I guess they have limited units left in stock.

I would recommend 50", because that is my viewing distance as well. I tried 42" in my hall but my wifey says it is a bit small. 50" is just nice.

For viewing distance the general rule is 1.5 - 2.0x the width of the screen. A 42" plasma TV is 36.6" wide, so the viewing distance is between 54.9" - 73.2". A 50" plasma is 43.6" wide so you can work out the distance.

Legend has got competitive prices. You can also try some of our forummers here like htkaki. See his sig for his sales thread.
