QUOTE(michaeltan1943 @ Apr 24 2009, 06:49 PM) what bull lah. Nothing to do with the huge market. UK also so cheap and yet, UK has only double the population of Malaysia.
So the big question again is, why is Panasonic having such big price disparity between 42 and 50 inch panels.
No logic. 70% is way too high. It's not only a matter of population size but also spending power - which is much higher per capita in UK than here. Due to this I suspect the market for big panels is much more active overseas than in Malaysia and this competition helps keeps prices lower. In Malaysia maybe 50" is considered premium class but in UK/US it is in moderate class. QUOTE Furthermore, in developed markets like UK, there are more brands to choose from and consumers have a bigger choice. There are more than 10 major brands competing for 58 mil people In Malaysia, only 5 or 6 strong brands. And yet, these 5 or 6 can capture 25 million people Sorry, don't get the point you're trying to make here.

QUOTE(gragon @ Apr 26 2009, 12:09 AM) This seems to be the best explanation, but even that, I believe it's doesn't make good business sense. If Panasonic sets such a high price premium, I would imagine that there is an opportunity for some other producers, e.g. Hitachi, to try to capture this 50" market by lowering their price premium. Hence, the overall price for the 50" should equilibrate at a more reasonable level. Don't know why other brands aren't coming in to undercut the Panasonic price premium. Hope they aren't colluding to artificially keep the premium up

QUOTE(pltan @ Apr 26 2009, 05:29 PM) I don't think it's just a matter of spending power, Malaysia's upper-income class certainly has comparable spending power to Western countries. Just compare the luxury car markets.... I note you said "Malaysia's upper-income class" and that's precisely true... it takes our upper-income class to match UK's middle-class. To take your analogy of luxury cars, compare the affordability of say a BMW or Benz in western countries compared to here. How long or hard does a Malaysian need to work in order to buy one of those cars compared to someone overseas? Same with HT equipment. But yes, it's not only a matter of spending power. The whole economics thing is quite involved. QUOTE Let's not forget the HDTV market here is not as mature as the UK/US. Just compare HD rollout, BD penetration etc etc, so in a sense it's still a 'niche' market in terms of demand. Now couple with that the fact that the retail market here is also behind the curve comparatively....e.g. you can log onto buy.com, amazon.com and buy a TV on these sites for great prices due to their business model. This is also another mitigating factor in terms of competitive price pressure in the HDTV market. Agreed.

QUOTE(kenloh7 @ Apr 29 2009, 03:37 PM) any possible way to split the p42x10k screen to half so that i can watch 2 astro programs at the same time? Even if the TV can split screen, you can't watch 2 different Astro programmes if you only have 1 decoder.

QUOTE(polarmint @ May 3 2009, 02:36 AM) Hi Guys and Sifus, I'm a newbie in lowyat.net and have been following this forum with keen interest. I'm considering to get this latest Panasonic plasma but not sure what size will be suitable for my living room. Viewing distance approximately 8 to 9 ft. Hoping that sifus here can help me out. Also, where can I get the best deals for both the 42" and the 50"? Went to Legend yesterday and their best price is RM3500 cash for the 42" and RM5500 cash for the 50". Tried to bargain but they wouldn't budge. I guess they have limited units left in stock. For viewing distance the general rule is 1.5 - 2.0x the width of the screen. A 42" plasma TV is 36.6" wide, so the viewing distance is between 54.9" - 73.2". A 50" plasma is 43.6" wide so you can work out the distance. Legend has got competitive prices. You can also try some of our forummers here like htkaki. See his sig for his sales thread.

QUOTE(kianwee @ May 4 2009, 10:24 AM) QFT. Legend is very cunning in their way of doing business. They try to sell me a few appliances which are display unit, and they dare to insist it is brand new somemore. Their SS2 branch is the worst. Do not deal with the tall chinese guy call LIANG, most of the time he jack up the price above RSP then give you a discount from there. Thanks for the advice. I wonder if Liang works differently nowadays. Last week I happen to pop by Legend SS2 and was served by Liang. I asked about some prices for plasma/lcd tv and he gave me his card with a handwritten price list attached already. The prices stated in the list was quite competitive. Anyway, I'm still leery about the place if the after sales service is poor and them claiming display/returned units as new.

QUOTE(dehantu @ May 5 2009, 12:41 PM) Does it mean...it cannot be fixed? even though you tighten up the screws? is this because of molding issue or what..? BTW, Panasonic SC came to my house.... tighten up the screws again! Sound still ada! Main2 with the sound menu... still ada...I asked him...anybody else facing the same issue? the answer is YES! For this newly release model. He said the model he attended was 50" one. So how to fix this?? no answer given... . He just said...if the sound..rattle louder... call them again! How many time should I call?? Haiyaa...!!! Lastly, he gave me a suggestion.... use Home theater...!!! Sounds like it's an issue with the construction of the TV. Housing not inert enough and therefore the speakers cause rattling/resonance. Maybe you can try to dampen the area around the speaker, stick some kind of foam or other damping material there and see.

QUOTE(podrunner @ Jun 6 2009, 09:57 AM) That's the same calibration chart that anfieldude used!! That's because anfieldude uses the same calibration software, namely CalMan. You can tell the dude is serious in his calibration by the stuff he uses.
