My friend said I could be heading into a depression if I continue to have sleep anxiety.
Nowadays, i CAN go to sleep but I would wake up halfway with fast beating heart and anxieties... panic.
Then hard to go back to sleep again.
Breathing is erratic.
It's only happening for these few days.
How should I relax myself?

Some people have claimed that meditation helps in calming down yourself. an hour or half an hour before you sleep, perhaps empty your mind of everything and sit still?
I can't say for sure as I don't practice it.

I do listen to relaxing musics (not hardcore bands & if possible without lyrics. It must only be music).
I usually listen to flute sounds, birds & waterfalls etc.

Perseus, what if I told you that everything the forumers here has suggested to you wouldn't work in the long run?
You have to face your worries, fears, problems or whatever it is that is causing you distress / stress. What ppl have told you is only to reduce the stress level but it doesn't get rid of the problem completely.
If you really want to have peace of mind again, you have to face your worries/fears. However, the way you face it, doesn't have to be alone. You can have friends and/or family helping you along the way.
That's the only way, I'm afrad. But take heart. The first step is the hardest but after that, it's easier.

Hi Perseus, Sorry to hear that you have been through this. You should try and evaluate the reason behind your stress and get over it. Stress and depression are very common disorders which most people suffer these days for various reasons. You can even think of consulting a specialist.

are you stressed at something that you cant tell us? hehe i used to wake up middle of the night thinking my homework due date past and i din make it during school time. dream of my teacher. not in a wet way (i wish). if you do have problems (i dont like to use this word cos it seems negative) you could talk to a specialist. it is a common thing and if it helps u, by all means other than that, i always wash my feet nicely before sleeping. no matter how tired. one malay friend told me that its a culture among malays. he say if you dont you might not have a good sleep, sometimes with nightmares etc. i was standard 6 that time so it stuck with me til now. good habit also wat.

TS Im sad to know that you have such an issue as well. The first and only time I heard about the same issue is from a man who has high anxiety on daily live, life problems to face. He only sleeps 4 hrs average in day, thats usually 4-8am. Other than his Outdoor daily activities, he spends a great deal of time online to blog and or LYN. Poor guy. And he has to be a manageable alcoholic. Similar to you, he worries a lot and maintain high alert on worldly issues.
Afterall, you have got to face your life issues. There isnt a paradox/myth to sleep soundly like a baby anymore... im afraid. Perhaps seeking out for more other ways to relax the body is a good thing, eg Yoga, to stretch your body might help the muscle to relax.

I once had problem sleeping and I usually took me 1 or 2 hours before I dozed off when I hit the bed. I've got an overactive brain that refuse to shut down and pretty stressed up.
Well it ended for nearly a year now. Before I sleep, I try not to think of work problems or anything that stresses me. I indulge in my own hobby and had a good laugh via cartoons to end the day. Meditation might work too. As long as you managed to clear off your brains, just do it.
When I lie down on bed and suddenly my brain kickstart itself to "worry" over anything at all, I re-tune it by imagining the nature..... like seaside, rivers, greenery and stuff. Then I Zzzzzz before the 10th sheep jumped over the fence.

I have that problem long time ago. Then I started working out until I exhaust myself so much that I had to sleep. A good night sleep indeed.
