Is anyone using the Silverstone NT-06 Lite heatsink in their SG-01? I'm wondering if are comfortable with temps.

I have the NT-06 Lite mounted in my SG-01 with a Silverstone PSU ontop, and it's so flush that I can't put a fan on the NT-06 Lite. Right now am using it on a E8200 (stock, no OCing), and speedfan reports idle temps around 48C (BIOS says around 37-38C, which should I believe?).

I have 3x 80mm CM silent fans on the 3 fan positions for the SG-01, with a PCI slot blower fan sucking hot air from the onboard GPU and out the back, since I was worried about overheating (speedfan reports GPU temps around 78-80C, but I dont know if accurate).

Later I will post pics of the setup so you can see what I mean, now in the office sad.gif

eheheh....long time ago...open bench....3.0G stock volt just relying on mah ceiling fan's air flow.
idle 50c~55c ,load 70c++,no a/c coz i hate a/c : P
juz my humble opinion lar...maybe the PSU tarik-ing air did help the NT-06 lite's temp abit since nt-06s fin and killer whales fin also tightly packed.

Hah, wanted to post pic but my PC crashed and died. Lucky I saved all my data on HDs and partitions other than the OS partition. Looks like a reformat/install is in order for my main rig. In any case, perhaps my temps aren't so way off then based on your comments. I am running a fanless cooling on the CPU (although the PSU fan is sucking air from the heatsink, the fan is not that powerful).

I just worry if the GPU or CPU can take it when I start loading them. Anyone else experience burning hot onboard GPUs? My mobo is the Asus P5N7A-VM (I think... I always mix up Asus mobo numbers; its the one with nvidia chipset). While installing OS via the optical drive (my completed casing has no optical drives), I had the case open, and used a 80mm fan blowing at the CPU/GPU to keep things cool. Now after closing the casing, I added the slot blower fan to suck air from GPU out the back, and I can feel the air is warm. Problem is the fan is a little noisier than I like. I have another quieter slot blower fan but it moves a lot less air. I am just worried about the GPU overheating.

After reading this thread since V2, I think I want to build a SFF rig but with <RM1k budget, will only convert my current rig.

My planning:

Processor : E8400 (current)
HSF : Arctic Cooler Alpine 7 (current, probably change)
Mobo : ? (no idea) RM500
RAM : 2 X 2Gb DDR800 (current)
Harddsik : 500Gb (current)
GC : HD2600XT (Plan to change)
PSU : CM Extreme Power 500W (current)
Casing : XqBox (or any sff casing below RM300)

So only need to buy casing and mobo and probably change GC.

This rig most probably for
-24/7 use (bittorrent)
-some video encoding (mp4, divx etc)
-desktop publishing (photoshop and illustrator) and
-some 3d rendering, some games but no OC.

My main concern is power consumption and also the heat. My HD2600XT with its stock fan generate too much heat. For idle, the temp already 60 and can reach 8+ when fully loaded. Last time I try to play DMC but my pc restart because of over heating. But after I changed to 3rd party cooler, the temp become normal with 50 idle and 6+ when loaded. So, which current GC will most suitable for sff? Is there any gc that don't need any fan so the rig will quieter?

E8400+GA EP45-DS3 for me is the best combo. With its Energy Saver technology, Gigabyte really reduce my bill if compare with my previous mobo. So, any gigabyte mobo recommended for me?

since ur a gigabyte fan....Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L

more than enough for ur usage and only costs RM180.

for the GC....just make sure u have enough airflow for it....

casing....up to u....the SG03 and the V350 would be a good place to start....

n i can confirm that the alpine will NOT fit into an unmodded microfly/xqbox

usually....SFF = m-ATX

and for his usage...the DFI is overkill....just coz he has that much money doesnt mean he should spend all of it.

I stated RM500 bcoz G45 also in my planning. At first I want to throw away the GC and use the built in HD4600. But, after some thought, better get discreet GC or reuse my old HD2600XT. But problem with HD2600XT, it produce so much heat with it original fan.

Yup..aiming for G31M-S2L. Downgrade from P45 to G31 sad.gif. DFI is out off the scene, to expensive for me.

Planning to change current GC due to the heat. Planning to get ATI 4670 DDR4. This GC ok or not?

My Alpine is not the pro series, it look like the normal HSF but the heat sink is higher than normal 8400 hsf. This one also not fit? Need to confirm to calculate my budget if need to buy other HSF.

Dunno, if I went to ATI4350 from 2600XT, I feel like I'm going down instead of going up. Although I'm not a gamer, but once for a while, I will play some latest game. So, I don't want to fork up money again after a few months to test some lastest games.

from http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3420 , they said that 4350 is great for HTPC but not design for game.

Anyway, thank you for suggesting. It also come in my mind before but I fell like anything below 4650 is more to downgrade than an upgrade. May be I just stick to 2600xt and buy a better casing.

i used to have the Alpine64 for my previous SFF s754 rig...and no it didnt fit...the support beam of the my microfly (aka xqbox) wouldnt allow it.

the only HSF with good clearance so far with the microfly is the thermaltake orb series (some only i think). and some of the zalman flower hsf. even with those hsf its a tight fit. but still able to slide the mobo tray in and out without removing the hsf...

right now i have my stock Q6600 hsf cooling my E5200...since u dont OC... why not just use the stock hsf? artic cooling themselves admit that the alpine series isnt as good as stock hsf...its main purpose was for silence. id recommend using the stock hsf first...and if gets too loud...then think about other coolers

as for GC... ur budget for mobo is 500...now u aiming for RM180 mobo..so u save RM320. sell ur 2600XT and add the 320 into the GC budget. perhaps aim for HD4850?

agree....since not overclocking no need spend too much on mobo. get a stable and trusted 1 is enough.
if GC budget got around rm400 any 9800gt or hd4830 will do...or 4670 if u wan more power saving...good GC.

The bad news is, my stock HSF pin is broken. sad.gif I like the Alpine bcoz it silent feature.

So now need to find stock HSF or replace the pin. Anyone sell the pin only?

Or is there any SFF casing that can fit Alpine?

I don't think 4850 is good suitable for me. Not a gamer, so it will be a useless. The most may be 4670. The extra money may be for 1TG hard disk drool.gif .

Thank you mADmAN for pointing out that Alpine+xqbox=not good.

Now aiming for G35M-S2L only. Here it cost RM200.

If possible, I don't want GC which need additional power. That's why I opt to 4670 instead of 4830. But if you guy think 4830 better, may be I will get that. But need to check my psu first.

So now,

Mobo G35M-S2L - RM200
Casing xqbox - RM250
GC 4670 - RM310 or 4830 RM430

Total RM760 or RM880. (Price base on Kuantan Price, may be will turun kl for pc fair)

Selling my gc- RM1++, mobo RM2++, casing RM1++. Cover half the price. smile.gif

if u come to KL for PC Fair... id strongly recommend going over to LYP and stop by sri computers...they sell some cheapo 775 HSFs... looks exactly like stock ones... cant remember the price.. but then u can take the pins from there.

but honestly...i say might as well get the orb cooler straight or the zalman flower cooler....more worth it...

zalman i think sri comp might still have...

the orb....can buy the ruby orb from ngbh HERE

and check out this post i found regarding the ruby orb+xqbox on an AMD setup. he says the cooler is really quiet too...

That picture not within casing. I want to see the HSF in action. But the HSF is expensive, so nvm.

Just dug out my store to search my old HSF. Luckily, one of my HSF have good pin, can be reuse with my e8400 stock HSF.

''MS-7593'', from the pic we can see it dun have heatpipe on the chipset and PWM area as what available in DFI and ASUS's , the board is equip with 6 DDR3 slot, 2 PCIE 16X slot, support CF and SLI , 7 SATA connector , 1 eSATA etc... .

The correct price and release date still unknown. This board might serve the entry level Matx market.

Any Xq Box here? This can install with 3 HD or not?

My current SFF machine is in the making..

Finally I just use built in video from used DQ45CB board, only X4500 not X4500HD, so no HD for the moment. Will buy new GC next month.

I probably will cut the sliding bar to install better HSF.

you can convert the 5.25" bay in to 3.5" bay if you really want.

which mean you can actually install mor that 3 or 4 hdd if really needed.

Hey guys i was searching for a proper sff case i have my second rig to take apart so the parts i have are :

1.Pentium D 3.2ghz
2.250Gb hdd
3.7900 GS
4.Acbel 450w psu
5. 2gb Crucial tracer 667
6.PATA dvdrw

I was looking at the ASUS P5KPL-AM motherboard

My budget is rather small which is approx Rm450 fir the board and the case. I researched the board price might be Rm200 so it leaves me with another RM250 for the case. Hope you guys can help me out! thanks smile.gif

It seems like we were pretty much spot on in terms of the specs of the new mATX X58 motherboard from MSI that we wrote about yesterday, but some new pictures gives a better idea of what you get and it shows off the board in all its retail ready glory.

As you can see, the board now sports a slightly improved chipset cooling solution, although it didn't get a heatpipe in the end, most likely for cost reasons. The colours of the slots have also changed, but at least the x4 PCI Express slot is still open ended.

The headers have also been colour coded and we can now see that there are four headers for an additional eight USB 2.0 ports, a header for a second FireWire port, one for what looks like a serial port and finally one for a TPM module. It doesn't seem like MSI have given the board any kind of digital audio output, although one of the 3.5mm jacks might double up as an optical S/PDIF out.

So far we haven't heard anything about an official launch date or pricing, but the official name seems to be X58M.

Thermalright announced new cooler under it's COCAGE brand. So far COCAGE family only has two members: True Spirit and MST-140.Here i show u guys the MST-140 biggrin.gif MST-140 has a large surface area for cooling (140mmX140mm) with two ball 140mm silent fans (140mm fan include), and the down draft airflow helps to cool CPU surroundings. MST-140 measures 144*147*70.2mm, and supports LGA775 and LGA1366 Socket, but the price is unknown yet.

COGAGE products are mainly designed for the entry-level market with decent cost performance according to Thermalright.

According to the source, the COCAGE is thermalright's value department, so the price should be lower than Thermalright's own product.

I just start to set up my Xqbox machine. But without modular psu, it really hard to manage the cable.

Sadli Artic Cool Alpine cannot be use. With the stock hsf, my e8400 has reach 5+ (over 55). I check using speedfan. This software accurate or not? If yes, I think I need to pay more for good HSF.

the temp higher abit than normal casing becoz of the small area for ventilation purpose..
kinda weird ur proc go that higher under load coz as long i remember my e8200 also below 55 load

intake... my psu dun have intake hole below.

but the 6000+ is a darn hot processor... in normal casing also reach that tempreture using normal stock phenom cooling
( which got 70mm delta fan at 5000rpm, darn noisy ). tongue.gif

just another thing.... last time the bios show cooler tempretuer for my proc... but after update it gone higher... rclxub.gif

Bad new for me, my dslr camera just got stolen cry.gif . Can't take picture now.

My sff is messy with all the unwanted cable. I hide all of them at the top of my dvd-rw but with the transparent top, it look fugly. May post it this monday, need to borrow my frens camera.

With just firefox running, already 57 celcius, I'm afraid to encode any video. Need to find good hsf but no money already cry.gif (have to simpan for new camera)

Yup, got stolen in my locked office room. After 5 years safely in my room, but in this recession time ppl willing to do anything.

I see, so I need to change the dvd drive to upper slot and put the cable under it right? Will do that.

Now looking for good 80mm fan as the front intake. Hope the temp will improve.

Which part you kena? This is new experience for me. But, with Xqbox, I don't think it really difficult to set up the machine. The space is quite large. The only major problem is, only low profile hsf can be fit with i this box.

Wah... don't show me your blood picture tongue.gif . Only the sff. smile.gif

Last night I try to encode some movie and check the maximum temp in full load. So, in normal or under load, the temp is 55-57 and at full load highest is 85 (average 82). I never reach this temp with my Alpine. Last time under load and full load only have 10-15 difference, but now 25-30 diff. I need to invest more cooling system.

Currently my system only got 1 X CM 120mm led fan and no intake. My psu also serve as exhaust but the fan is slow. May be today I will buy "90 CFM Red LED Silent Fan 120mm" and see any difference.

me im running on E5200 + stock Q6600 HSF + stock thermal pads...

i also have an 80mm front intake @5v...meaning it runs slower than normal...its also filtered...so even lesser air coming in.

exhaust is vizo starlet running below max speed due to mobo and also my PSUs 12cm fan...

forgot exact temps but they are nice and cool and its damn quiet...sometimes have to physically look at the internals or feel the air at the rear exhaust to even know if its on or not laugh.gif

I use Cooler Master Premium Thermal Paste ptk-002. At first, I only apply small amount but when I saw the temp is high, I add more (all inside the tube).

I try put 90mm as intake and operate it at full speed. There is no temp difference. But I wonder why everytime I connect the fan with mobo fan connection, the fan speed is not stable. Fast and slow repeatedly. If I use LED fan, the LED is blinking. I think the power is not stable.

But if I connect directly to psu connector, it run smoothly.

55 to 60 is ok. But may be in game, gc will be hotter. Mine.. from 55 to 82c when encode mp4 which fully utilize processor. I face this problem before with my CM690 using stock hsf. When I change to Arctic Coler Alpine, the temp drop from 5+ to 4+ and full load only 5+ and barely reach 60.

Sorry, forgot about your AXP140, to focus with my sff smile.gif.

I don't know what else I can use to fix the cable at the moment. So, when I open my tool box, there a duct tape. May be I will not swap gadget a lot. Now aiming to add GC. With current setup, I have no problem plug in/out all connection and remove the mobo tray.

But still, the temp doesn't change.

@rsangle

u added the entire tube??? shocking.gif

clean up and replace the thermal paste man... too much aint good for temps and also ur mobo pins and proc...

for ur rig... i recommend 2 things...

1/ remove the duct tape before it gets worse....seriously. sleeve it properly or just use cable ties will do... or can also do like what i did HERE for the front panel cables...

2/ actively cool ur HDDs with a fan...
- put 1 HDD in the floppy bay and mount a fan to cool it...
- the other HDD leave it in the HDD bay and buy a HDD cooler for it (the kind u mount below the HDD)

u can see how i setup my microfly and the HDD on THIS page.

what i did was mount the HDD On 5.25" bay and tie a fan to the floppy bay for cooling. but i know u need ur 5.25" bay to hide ur cables oso...hence i asked u to put ur HDD in the floppy bay.

Thank you mADmAN, as always, you're the man.

I will remove all the tape. Actually, the tape is just temporary solution to check if the ventilation is the problem. But although I already cleared the bottom part and add high speed 80 mm fan(the sound is horrible), the temp still at 55c. Nothing change.

I also had slowly add thermal paste from small amount to all of it but still no difference.

I noticed that your heat sink is taller than mine. Do you think this will make any difference? My final solution is only to buy good hsf before buying new gc. If not, the temp surely can reach 6+c.

I also think that the hd need to be separated but don't know where to put. Thank you for your suggestion. May be I will buy 2 hd fan.

@qwerty79
looks tidy to me...but electric tape = no no....bcoz those sticky tape will later become.....well....sticky... doh.gif
try cucuk ur cables inside abit into the rom bays...add 80mm fan or even can try reversing ur 120mm fan as intake...i heard the temp will improve abit...
HDD IMHO i think will be ok lar....if u use 1 hdd saja can try fiting cooler lar....if 2 i think u cant even fit them in...even u can sure the temps also not so good...
if u still insist maybe can try fitting some 40mm/50mm fans(forgot the dimension) in the vent holes infront the hdd try try c? but cari nice and quiet 1 lar of coz heheh

Electrical Tape is only a temporary solution. But really, I forgot about the sticky part doh.gif . Will order some cable sleeve soon.

I hd will put in floppy disk bay (suggested by mAdmAn) and one in hd bay. I think better I put them separately for better cooling.

Like you, I also heard that changing the back fan into intake can slightly drop the temp and I put it into practical. The temp slightly drop to 52-54 but due time, it will still close to 55c.

I realized that the stock HSF have small round contact surface with the processor. But most stock hsf don't have my problem so I think, it must be possible the low RPM. At 70-80c, the speed still running at only at below 1000 rpm. I don't what is the maximum speed for stock fan but I will try searching in bios to increase the speed. If all fails, my final solution is to get thermaltake blue orb.

not sure if the taller HSF makes a difference....i believe it would due to more surface area... the hsf im using is stock q6600 which has a copper base..

most intel hsf has the round base... thats the hs design...

anyway...heres the temps of my htpc (big pix). using 3 different softwares.....everest, realtemp, speedfan (not setup)

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

also...looks like ur PCI slots are empty.. perhaps tie another fan there to help exhaust hot air?

or can get a PCI blower, place it in the first PCI slot (nearest to CPU) and run @5 or 7v. this will help exhaust hot air from the CPU hsf so that it wont recycle the hot air. might also provide some airflow for your NB heatsink at the same time... All IT has a cheap 1 for RM10. loud at 12v but moves alot of air....reduced my 8800GTS' temps by 10c.

havent tested mine at lower voltages yet...should be ok at 7v...

I can see that your fan can reach 2k rpm. At idle already 1.5k. Mine only 1k max. Will show screenshoot tonight.
Btw, how the g45? My first plan is to buy G45 but no budget. How the mkv 1080p playback? Smooth?

i honestly cant tell u anything about the 1080p playback of the G45... coz everytime i try to set that DXVA thingy in MPC-HC...it doesnt seem to work...

besides...i couldnt be bothered to anymore....ive always been using BS Player since before screamyx came out...for some reason it decodes 1080p better than MPC-HC. even at stock settings CPU usage is siginificantly lower compared to MPC-HC.

i did a comparison and posted it in the htpc thread...

Finally I get my cpu fan running more than 1k rpm by connecting the cpu fan cable into rear chassis fan header (3-pin). But with this setup, the fan constantly running at 1.5k. The best news is, my temp drop to 50-51c.

I also change my back fan from exhaust into inlet fan.

Here is the screen of idle and load temp. The loaded temp I got by encoding mp4 movie (100% cpu utilization). I use 4 software, Everest, Real Temp, Core Temp and Speedfan. I wonder why Speedfan always show the hooter temp among others.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

My current load temp is 63c (Speed fan) compare to previous 70-85c. Great improvement but my target is below 50c for full load and 40 idle.

With Speedfan, I always get 4 to 6 higher than any other program.

All the the above reading I get after change the cpu fan power connector to chasis rear power connector. I get 1500 rpm with current setup but never reach 2000 which is the stock hsf maximum speed. So, if everything work normal, the temp will be lower. I think something with my mobo setting because with cpu fan connection, I can't get over 1000 rpm. But don't know where the setting. This mobo can't allow me to change the fan setting.

browse through your bios and see if theres anything that can adjust in regards to fan speed relating to temps etc.

Ya.... this case is freaking small man....although its tower.... I dunno if its even mid tower... everything fits just nice inside. Cable management is a nightmare.

But I stuck with this case coz I like the front LAN activity LED. That way I can hide my modems and router and by looking at the case I know if the WAN/LAN is working.

I think the cpu temps are ok coz there's a duct from the side panel to the cpu fan. This ensures the cpu fan is taking in cooler air from outside the case at all times. If I turn on my room AC, the temp drops by another 1-2.

Thinking of opening up a blowhole at the top.... but due to space constraints I think max can only put in 92mm fan... 120 cannot. sad.gif

i only notice that there is a mesh infron of the v351 compart to the v350.
the internal look just the same.

what was lian li thinking of coming out with all this nes model.
1st there is the v351,
than the a05n...

rclxub.gif
but i think the lian li v351 are discontinue already so the v351 is just the replacement and same goes to a05n

Where to get the 80mmX15mm? Sorry la...here hard to find anything. Afraid to buy online as I can't see the exact size.

The Gemini II S heatsink already 62mm plus 15mm already 77mm. Ngam-ngam fit with my Xqbox I think.

well... it is a bit hard to find but way more easier to find compare to 120x120x15mm fan.
the solution normally is to buy online...

Guys, for those who want silet sff, don't by CM 90cm 120mm fan. It fast by to much noise. Not suitable for HTPC.

Today (err..yesterday) I received sleeving items from niclasteoh. Just done doing some cable management. No more electrical tape smile.gif. I also bought CM Vortex 746. Fix nicely with Xqbox but the performance is slightly better than stock when idle but in full load 10c drop from stock rclxm9.gif .

Will snap picture when I finished set up all items.

hi,

are you aware that there's something called a rheostat/fanbus/fan regulator?
it's scary to hear such amature statement... akin to tell people to avoid buying a say, aston martin db.. fearing that upon starting up the engine.. the car will just roar forward at 230km/h..? not knowing that, there's something called the accelerator pedal..?

Do you know that cm claim 90cfm at 19db only. But from what I get, <90cfm with something like 32db. Too much noise. So who make amature statement? If buy the fan and not use it to the fullest, why buy it? I bought it bccoz it claim 90cfm/19dba not 50 or 60cfm/19dba. If like that, better I buy other fan. If use a rheostat/fanbus/fan regulator, the fan will slow and it doesn't reach 90cfm right?

Read my sentence again, I said to those who want SILENT sff or htpc.

Now I change back to my old CM silent fan. In term of performance, can't beat 90cfm/19dba but most important it silent.

yes..the actual cfm is only like 70cfm only...
he is warning others for good purpose....not need to bash him with the term 'amature statement'
tats quite over the line IMO.
u might be good with this kind of things but that doesnt mean u can pick ppl's small error with harsh words.

of course there's nothing wrong with ignorance either..

a fan controller acts as a regulator..
there're high amps fan controller out there that can increase the spin rate of the fan, so it's not just to decrease them(spin rate, which will translate to the rpm and subsequent to the cfm).. think of it like an overclocked fan..

you know how to spend money on hardwares.. but do you know the simple theory in physics? from thermodynamics to electricity..?

sometimes, it's not just about spending money and buying parts to show off.. the way some of you place your fans will only cause more heat pockets due to the directionless hot air vortex.

Aiyoo... you easily said people give amature statement, now you said some people only know buy thing but don't know some basic theory? Waoo.. you surely have good thermodynamic and electricity background and also a knowledgeable person.

But you miss my point, the keyword is SILENT. CM 90cfm/19dba is not a silent fan. Read more in this thread and you'll see that lots of people agree with me. However don't get me wrong, it is a good fan. My sff temperature drop 2-3c if compare to CM silent fan. But in term of SILENT, not a silent fan.

BTW, some people built SFF for self satisfaction not to show off.

Normally I just ignore ppl like you, but now it is fun to read your own ignorance.

Aiyoo... you easily said people give amature statement, now you said some people only know buy thing but don't know some basic theory? Waoo.. you surely have good thermodynamic and electricity background and also a knowledgeable person.

*
Silent by definition = Cannot hear.

Simple.

Nothing that spins (regardless of whatever fancy bearings and blade design) over 1K rpm is silent

of course there's nothing wrong with ignorance either..

a fan controller acts as a regulator..
there're high amps fan controller out there that can increase the spin rate of the fan, so it's not just to decrease them(spin rate, which will translate to the rpm and subsequent to the cfm).. think of it like an overclocked fan..

you know how to spend money on hardwares.. but do you know the simple theory in physics? from thermodynamics to electricity..?

sometimes, it's not just about spending money and buying parts to show off.. the way some of you place your fans will only cause more heat pockets due to the directionless hot air vortex.
*
can reckon me controller that can increase spin rate? maybe can create turbo cool system drool.gif

well, who's missing who's point?!?

firstly, you dwell at having a silent fan.. thus i recommended a rheostat to reduce the spin rate.
then out of a sudden, you whine around not having to get the maximum rpm of a fan (why such inconsistency?!?)

then i still recommend a (specific type of) rheostat which can pump out more wattage to increase the fan's spin rate to beyond it's maximum, hence overclock the fan..

and now dude's back to silent fan again... duhh!! doh.gif
whichever way you look at it.. a rheostat can do you good.. fast or silent, it serve both ways. (how i wish you read more better articles/books than just focusing on threads..)

See... you miss my point at the first place. Read all my post since my "amature post". Any inconsistency? May be you confuse with my Q, "If buy the fan and not use it to the fullest, why buy it?". Do you read the rest of my post? doh.gif

If I want fan control, better I bought silverstone FM121. It has higher fan speed and come with its own fan controller. It also have max 110.03cfm but the noise level is 39.5dBA. In this case, Silverstone honestly state at higher rpm, the noise level also higher. Want silent fan, decrease the fan speed like you suggested. But the price is almost twice of CM 90cfm/19dBA fan. That's why I bought the CM fan. With half the price, I suppose to get good airflow with lower noise level than the more expensive FM121, if based on CM claim la...

Ok la, I will buy rheostat that can boost my fan speed. I want to make my sff sound like aston martin with the fan noise thumbup.gif

Fan noise is very subjective IMHO. Depends on a lot of factors like where u put the cpu, how you mount the fan and of course what fan u use. For me its always trial and error with various ways and various fans.

The CM 90cfm to me is a little "noisy". I took mine out from my case but my GC temp went up 2C smile.gif But I think I'll live with it as the noise becomes obvious at night when everything is off (except the PC) and I am trying to sleep. smile.gif

It all depends on the users smile.gif

fan controller may be a good thing but all those add cost to building a sff....

for the cm 90cfm fan, what u pay is what u get... the price is cheap but the performance is not as good and not as silent as it stated.

to buy a silence fan, always look for the word silent, but those cant performe like a performance fan, likewise the other way around.

to make a performance fan do 2 job, adding a fan controller is the only thing u can do. but that mean paying more for the things you need.

last, for cheap and good fan, cm 90cfm is still consider the best choice as it is cheap, only if u can stand the noise which is not that noisy compare to delta or any performance fan

I agree with you. CM 90cfm actually a good fan for it price. My pc temperature also drop 2-3c. However, I had to take it out bcoz the noise is intolerable at night. Fan controller is good way to control the speed, but if decrease the speed, better I buy lower speed fan with cheaper price or just use my old fan (I choose the later).

BTW, I still waiting some of my sleeving items from niclasteoh. Last time I forgot to buy dust filter for my intake fan, lot of dust already manage to curi masuk inside my casing.

Good new, I just received all the items. But still need to find suitable time to install everything.

This is my first time doing sleeving. I always wrongly measure the cable length and end up shorter than I expected. That why the shrinkable tube is too long sweat.gif .

The 3 SATA cables are very long and hard to bend. Actually, I want to hide behind the 24-pin power cable but they are too hard to bend. I also don't like the color, thinking of changing to orange or blue.

This side look cleaner with only a few wire.

interesting setup.. i see that you like contrasting colors.. orange against blue(cables).. and the uv glow is mesmerizing to look at.. my box's similar to yours (dimension and layout wise) and you may reference it on how to hide your cables (but that defeats the uv effect huh?) refer to:

http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...&#entry24113330

i don't have that many cables as yours would.. but my psu wires are way too cumbersome.. it's all hidden inside the front bezel.. or rather said, just right behind the front bezel where the side vents are located.

here's my SFF setup, pls comment.....

AMD Athlon X2 7750 BE
MSI K9A2GM-FIH (Nvidia 8200 chipset)
2x1GB KVR 800Mhz
CM Extreme Power 460w
XQBOX

Personal opinion of the XQBOX;
Build quality;
Edges are not aligned. Gaps will be visible despite screwing it tight. Resonates when fans at high speed. *update: the resonating sound was emitted from the stock hsf, nothing to do with the casing.

Cable management;
Cant comment, im a n00b in CM

Airflow;
Interesting finding here, read on....
proc is reading 50c on idle in a hot afternoon, no aircond, with AS5 paste applied. why so hot?
Airflow sucks? no, temp didnt drop when i open up the casing.
AS5 not applied correctly? doubt it, heat sink is hot when touched. will reapply paste to reconfirm.
*update: reapplied AS5. no drop in temperature.
What else can i test?

from the looks of it, ya is the amd stock fan

i doube reapply the paste will deo any effect, changing the cooler is ur best chance.

btw, it is normal for the processor to be hotter inside a sff, just make sure it is not overheatted is ok already.

thanks for the comments guys.
yes its stock hsf. what are the aftermarket coolers that can fit in to this sff?

and i found out that the resonating sound wasnt from the casing, it was the stock hsf. apparently the fan wasnt secured tightly to the heatsink. tried slotting papers in between but still coudnt work.

yea, reapplying paste doesnt bring down the temp. guess changing hsf would be the solution. again, im concerned about the physical clearance issue. your comments guys.....

65w??
lol... super duper energy saving.

ya like eng_tat say... hdd consume very little energy, u can plug in at least 20 hdd if ur psu is 650w real power.... 5 hdd should be no problem for whatever psu.
if u really scared. go for the 2.5" hdd... that one consume even less power.

I am not sure how much does the sugo sg02 cost, the v351 is rm400+-. i bought the case on impulse and some fren here sycho me blush.gif
so far is only 20% built coz lack of parts like gc, hsf, and hdd still. yawn.gif Not to racun flex.gif , i think the built quality is very good (this is my second lianli case) inside is spacious as well for sff. The ventilation shud be good as well judging by the fan quantity inside. 2x 120mm intake and 80mmx1 out + psu/1 out lor. draw back is the case is not so small as i like to be hmm.gif , so i will be hunting Pc37 Muse soon drool.gif

the sg02f is steel body... and cost like rm350++... the full aluminium sg02 is like rm500.

and ya, the v351 is actually quite big consider it is a matx mechine.

the sg02f is steel body... and cost like rm350++... the full aluminium sg02 is like rm500.

and ya, the v351 is actually quite big consider it is a matx mechine.
eng_tat~ wa muse, fast fast order one  brows.gif
*
aiyo rm350+++ tat is alot for steel case ler. like that better get v351 ler. need to wait for one of the brother next order first, but if too expensive i diy my self with plywood lor brows.gif

thanks again to Eng_Tat & tjay_tj.

sg02f is about rm300+-.

I think mostly I will choose sg02f, because the size are smaller.  biggrin.gif

And I plan to install :

Althon X2 7750/7850
Gigabyte MA78GM US2H
2GB kingston DDR2 800mhz

and other components is from my old rigs.

Any opinion for the spec?
*
what is the budget you have for this??? do you consider intel as well or purely amd?
if intel E5200(240)or E7400(400)or E8400(600) + Gigabyte G31 (180)or Intel DQ45CB (350) (I might get this to replace my DG35EC(270)) + VR 2GBx2 (150)

If AMD get P2 X3 the least....me not so familiear with AMD (hardly built this AMD based procs)

thanks for the comments guys.
yes its stock hsf. what are the aftermarket coolers that can fit in to this sff?

and i found out that the resonating sound wasnt from the casing, it was the stock hsf. apparently the fan wasnt secured tightly to the heatsink. tried slotting papers in between but still coudnt work.

yea, reapplying paste doesnt bring down the temp. guess changing hsf would be the solution. again, im concerned about the physical clearance issue. your comments guys.....

in an sff case.. usually heat is a problem..
i found that tuniq tx-2 is a very good thermal paste. it has better value for money than as5.

ive got both tx-2 and as5. my personal preference still leans towards the as5.

btw, confirmed that my XQBOX is resonating (the removable mobo tray is touching the bottom of the case) when cpu fan spins at 4.7k rpm onwards. doh.gif

the geminii s is a good cooler for sff, but i will recomend the geminii non s for u

there is a another different between v351 and our v350,
is the mobo tray, the end opening of you mobo tray is higher than urs, so the heastink and fan can be fitted and go together with no problem.
this means that the geminii non s can be fitted easilly.

user posted image

edit, total height for the geminii non s and the fan is 81.5mm + 25mm, i think it can be fitted in with no problem...
(just choosing the best cooler laugh.gif )

their placing of the 5.25 and 3.5 area also make it more spacious.

Quick question for anyone using the SG02-F, I am setting up two systems for my dad now, both using the SG02-F and there is a problem I encountered with fitting the PSU.

Basically, there are 2 rivets at the side of the case which prevent the PSU from sitting all the way to the side, so the 4 hole to not line up with the casing holes. I had to cut the rivet ends a little so that it could slide in.

Both the SG02s I bought have the same thing. Did anyone else encounter this? Both using Silverstone Strider PSUs.

ya evilnickwong, I having the same problem also. I don't have cutting tools, so I only able to put two screws only. I using old antec PSU.

I thought I am the only one, but seems like still have others sg02-f case are like that.

OK took pics today.

You can see here the two rivets that are blocking the PSU from being placed flush to the side of the case:
user posted image

And if I just put the PSU against the rivets, then it's too far to the side. In this photo, the arrow indicates where the edge of the PSU holes are. Obviously cannot mount:
user posted image

I do not have time to bring back for warranty or something, so I just cut down both the rivets a little, then manage to squeeze in (just barely).

Is this a common issue for anyone else besides tat88?
Other than this, the case has been a pleasure to work with and I'm surprised at this defect. Can it be a bad shipment to the All IT branch? I can't imagine being so lucky to get 2 out of 2 units with the same issue if it is a defect and not a design fault.

So far first impressions of the casing are good. Ample space for what I need, only thing I don't like is the height limitation for CPU coolers.

May be bcoz no new owner.

My SFF currently on hold as my onboard sound not functioning. Whole 2 weeks I tried to fix it including install all kind of windows (XP, vista, 7) but nothing work. Finally I just order X-Fi but new problem surfaced.

Because of X-Fi soundcard, it disturbed my casing airflow. The CPU temp increase to 54~56c from 48~50c. I also ordered HIS 4670 IceQ and really hope that it dual slot design will help a bit. Probably will install back my CM 90cfm fan and bear with its noise.

Now, it make me think to buy G45 mobo and sell both of my soundcard and GC and also sell my RMAed DQ45CB mobo. Or anyone can suggest me a good but cheap mobo with 1394 features?

If not becoz of the sound problem (I bought 2nd hand), I will use this board for another 1-2 years. I like this board because it have all the connection I want with low price. Although at the beginning I got puzzled with the intel silent fan system, but it all ok till the sound problem occured.

I even connect my pc to my lcd thorough HDMI (use dvi-hdmi converter), have no problem connecting my video cam through the 1394 port and also it have lots of usb port. A good mobo if you ask me.

Actually, my first planning to buy cheap mobo like g31m or p5kpl-am when I RMAed the mobo.

mmm...looks like this northbridge cooler its way better than the aluminum non-combo version of jetway's board.
a bit hot to the touch even with geminIIs blowing air down on the non-combo version of my bro's board but still acceptable.

Look promising, but I wonder why i7 matx mobo all have dual pcie x16 slot? I believe not all matx lover like to do CS or SLI in their SFF or HTPC, I also believe that only gamers will truly utilize the dual slot design and the rest will only use one pcie x16 slot. Two pcie x16 slots waste space for one pci/pcie x1 slot.

However, I read somewhere that PCIe x1 card can be install in PCIe x16 slot. But if one PCIe x16 card (graphic card) installed in primary slot, and one PCIe x1 card (soundcard or any PCIe x1 card) installed in other PCIe x16 slot, the GC will slowed down to x8. Don't know if it is true. But if it true, than dual slot design is totally waste for user like me.

I'm still waiting matx with only one pcie slot.

not really... only older chipset do that
x58 chipset can set both at x16... so what u get is another x16 free...
well... u dun have to use it for soundcard... u can always use for raid card or others add on card... the older PCI is going to extince.

Due to the powerful performance of X58 + Core i7 platform , MATX market increase becoz it enable gamers to setup a small but having powerful performance that nearly equal to their heavy setup (water cooling , full tower casing etc) desktop in home. Thus bring them to Lan party is more convenient biggrin.gif

Hi all,
need a feedback from Aopen-G326 user.... I recently bought that particular casing and within this week, planning to buy a PSU.

The question is; what sort of PSU can fit in for Aopen-G326?
-am looking at GaygayBite SuperB 720W:
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/PowerS...me=Superb%20720

also at Xigmatek NRC-PC502
http://www.xigmatek.com/product/power-nrppc502.php

any users of Aopen-G326 using these two type of PSU?

judging form the size of the psu... the gigabyte one is a standart atx size. should be able to fit in with not much problem...
abut the xigmatek one... the size is bigger than 2cm, properbly need to becareful with that...

so the best choice is the gigabyte one.
