Given u requirement of i5 and 5850, I wont suggest to go for smallest possible case, coz it would compromise the cooling performance and resulting unstable system.

In general, Shuttle case is like 30% smaller than smallest matx case..hmm.gif

Im not looking to do any overclocking btw. just use stock standard for now. Looks like i have to get a micro atx casing.

Just wondering what kind psu rating should i get say if i wanted the core i5 with either a 5850 or crossfire 5770 set up? is 650 watts enough?

That's under the condition even before doing any overclocking ...

and

Don't get too excited of doing crossfire on a small case, u would get massive of headache during installation and maintenance... .

Lastly, better off get a 5850 and run with a good 600 watts modular Power suppler ..nod.gif

Ok, then forget the SFF, i'll just have to go with a micro atx casing. Hopefully they have those which arent too big, bulky or heavy.

I may not even go for a third party cooler, just use stock standard. I doubt that singapore vendors have this casing coz im not goint to the states anytime soon and australia is just 2 bloody expensive.

With ur budget I dont think u should look at Silverstone case coz it cost starting from RM3++...

look for other model like microfly and etc which would give u better deal.

go for AMD setup see if can fit it under ur budget loh

@crapp0
matx motherboard can fit in any micro atx specific case.

but most likely wont fit into shuttle kind of case..

for your requirement any matx case would be able to do so but the size is definitely larger than Shuttle ...

Besides the smaller motherboard, other components like RAM, HDD, PSU can use normal sized ones rite?

RAM, HDD, PSU... these things size can't be different unless u are looking at notebook setop laugh.gif

my previous post to crapp0 suggested xqbox is highly recommended..

System Specs

PSU : AMD X2 4400+
MOBO : Gigabyte GA-MA69G-S2R
RAM : Corsair DDR1 1GB X2 (Corsair 4GB DDR2)
PSU : Mushkin HP-550
GFX : Gigabyte 7900GTX
S CARD : ESI Juli@
HDD: 500GB Seagate

Ah, that casing looks nice as well, but the above specs is a bit outdated rite? What would your recommendations be given my budget?

In bold would be what I prefer.

I would rather suggest xqbox then Sugo 03 due to budget cap..

besides, he's aiming for 2X2GB quoted in bracket hmm.gif

so need to allocate money for it around since he's using DDR1 according to the above spec.

Doom And frosti3: No those are not my specs, I found it in the xqbox thread. I am building a system completely from scratch.

Yeah, I think I'll scratch silverstone for the time being, freaking expensive, haha. I'm down to either G326 or xqbox.

So,

proc: phenom 720 - RM420
mobo: asus m4a785d-m pro - RM345
RAM: 2 x 2GB Corsair PC800 D2 Value RM260
casing: - Aopen G326/xqbox - RM300
GC: 5770 - RM650
HDD: Seagate 500GB - RM180
PSU: CM Extreme Power 500W - RM199

total: RM2354

Can I opt for a cheaper GC? Does games like Red Alert, Dawn of War run with a lower GC?

well PSU wise, can get Silverstone Strider Evolution 500 watts Modular at Rm269...hmm.gif

in that case hunt for 4850 loh, if u are running on screen resolution equal or lower than 1680X1050..

this card is enough to handle it, btw, the price is around RM380...

PSU: Silverstone Strider 500W - RM289
Monitor: Ben-Q 21.5" G2220HD - RM499

Total: RM2658

So, more or less should be like that la. Prices are all quoted from c-zone, except for the casing.

hehe: u pretty much got it going ... btw make sure u get the PSU right, it's the modular version ..

remember to post some photo when it's done ..

some of the the cables are removable to reduce the mess inside the case after finish installing it..

What's the difference? So I must let the seller know explicitly that I want the modular version?

bro doom, are u sure he's not talking about the same thing when he mentioned SFF and "shuttle type of casing"?

generally ppl are not as specific as us in usage of these terms..

I get what he mean coz last time I was a Shuttle user. He asked in the previous page whether matx can fit into SFF like Shuttle ..

Since he quoted "Shuttle", that mean he got the idea SFF isn't exclusive referring to Shuttle only loh..

probably has to wait for him to further clarify as well loh .. laugh.gif

agree nod.gif

it's nice being compact & little, but it's more expensive than self assemble
u can only use their mobo, few years down the road & u find out that u can't change mobo coz they didn't release that particular model u want
