QUOTE(NoN@me @ Jun 3 2009, 11:09 AM) jailbreak is just a minor change of firmware... u just need to delete the jailbreak file before bring for warranty... You see? After reading, you gain extra knowledge to even allow you to answer other's queries. However, the right term is....restore the phone before sending in for warranty claim(s). Cheers. |

If I have some defective issues a few days after I purchase and found the problems, can I ask for a one to one exchange from Maxis?
The main issues are light leaks from the screen around the metal bezel, hard to press the Home button, and the infamous yellow tinted screen. Found out that the demo unit is perfect and does not have any of the problems at all. Or maybe it's because of the batch model that I have so which batch is better overall? MB489ZA/A MB496ZA/A MB500ZA/A According to the three batch available to SingTel & Maxis, which is better and has almost no defects on the iPhone 3G at all? MB489ZA/A MB496ZA/A MB500ZA/A |

To answer your first question....you can always try but do it asap for obvious reasons. The main issues are light leaks from the screen around the metal bezel, hard to press the Home button, and the infamous yellow tinted screen. Found out that the demo unit is perfect and does not have any of the problems at all. Or maybe it's because of the batch model that I have so which batch is better overall? MB489ZA/A MB496ZA/A MB500ZA/A The Part/Model Nos. denote the respective 3G iPhone models ie. MB489ZA/A is for 8gb, MB496ZA/A, for 16gb Black and MB500ZA/A, 16gb White. So, it is not a question of which batch is better. To put it simply, like many things you buy, even if it is a brand new car, it is the luck of the draw. If you are unlucky, you will end up with a defective unit. Do let us know if you are successful in getting an exchange. |

IINM, there is this user from the States which exchange it for 8 times and the same problem exist in all of the sets. The main issues are light leaks from the screen around the metal bezel, hard to press the Home button, and the infamous yellow tinted screen. Well, I'm aware of these worldwide hardware issues that iPhone 3G owners are having. You would want a perfect condition phone right? The demo units are perfect in every Maxis centre that I've been to, isn't that ironic?anyway, you can try a 1-to-1 exchange with Maxis and see whether is the issue exist on the new set. and make sure you check on the spot. you don't want a newly exchanged set which has more serious problems than that you've owned. Hopefully I'm able to get a one to one exchange. |

The 'yellow screen' or to accurately put it warm color temperature or reddish tint was also reported by many around the world. The funny is Apple said it was intended because it helps produce more accurate colors (what kind of BS). I've been to many concept stores including the major one in Sydney. All of the demos were perfect. In the end, I concluded that Apple probably has more than 1 (maybe more) suppliers for the LCD (which was kinda confirmed by an Apple specialist).
I have a few friends to compare the screen with and each and every one of them have somewhat different shades. In other words, they weren't consistent. Surprisingly the ones on display always have the cooler color temperature and more contrasty (which give the impression of a sharper display). Anyway guys this just comes in: It has been identified over the net that Apple silently introduced a new build of the same firmware version which corrected the yellow tint problem. The end result is a more neutral hue color temperature. The articles below were dated for a firmware released in 2008. We're currently using 2.2.1 which is in fact a newer firmware. The article discussed about doing a restore to obtain a newer firmware build. Not sure if there newer builds for 2.2.1. http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1530 We can try though. Hopefully it works. |

From what I found, those who are using firmware 2.0 build 5A435 has the yellow tinted screen problem where 5A437 has none. Will post an update here soon, we'll see how Maxis handle this issue.
Added on June 4, 2009, 1:09 pmI wonder why Apple Malaysia does not allow one-to-one exchange policy, but instead just change the unit itself. This post has been edited by Mike3300: Jun 4 2009, 01:09 PM |

QUOTE(Mr7077 @ Jun 4 2009, 10:01 PM) You will have all the standard and default apps that come with any iPhone any country. There will be no game apps included. However, you have the Apps Store which allows you to download apps/games (both free and paid ones)! If you're worried about using credit cards or don't bother to buy, there's ample free apps/games! When you're ready to buy games/apps, there's plenty of them at affordable prices (like USD$0.99, so on). Anyway guys, back to the discussion of yellowish screens. I tried to do a full restore (which was brilliant by the way), no sign of any changes on the screen color temperature. The version 2.2.1's build is still at 5H11. Guess we'll have to wait till iPhone version 3.0 for any telling. |
