hi guys, im new Omnia user. i have few questions:

1. can anyone teach me to how to use the GPS? wat is the step? i dunno i should click on which program to start to use it. i used to have NOkia, it charge my mobile credit, which i don wish, i see most of my frens using free navigation. can Omnia do it? thanks.

2. i change from LG KS20, how can i transfer the SMS from LG to Omnia? i have quite a lot important SMS. if not possible, got any ways to backup to PC? thanks.

3. i wanna change the scrollbar to thicker one, easier to use. i check one website, it wrote there:

HKLM\System\GWE

wat does this mean and how it works? thanks


4. wat are the main differences for Active Sync 4.0 and 4.5? i haven install 4.5, using 4.0, but still can sync my Outlook. any special function or advantage for 4.5? thanks

I guess it is difficult to find shop selling as cheap as those seller here because they have much lower overhead and many are actually owner that just wanted to upgrade their used set for something else.

Looking at the spec of Omnia HD and the pricing of other HD, it should be priced at higher price range. Take an example Touch 3G, then Touch Pro and then Touch HD. Each of them is priced several hundred apart. So the question is which model suiting your need. Handset price always drop every few months, no matter how you wait.. it will still can drop further and before you know, there is another better new model came out and you may hope to wait for it to go down again. So lots of buyers actually just bought the model that they like and sell it away when newer model is launched because they will just need to top up few hundred extra.

Omnia can, but first u need to purchase either Garmin or MApking. then u can proceed from there (free to use after purchase)

2. Use PIM backup. back up your LG. transfer files to Omnia. restore

3. use registry editor

4. active sync, some newer windows mobile cant use the old version. if u can use then no need to change really

go to newbie pitstop... there's a much better explanation over there....

u need to extact those map to a folder, then u will found the img file.
u need mapsource to combine both malysia and singapore together.

i managed to backup and restore my PIM info from LG KS20 to Omnia

later or tmr morning will upgrade the firmware.

i dun think need to combine. if memory serves me right, peninsular malaysia and singapore is one map. east malaysia is another.

and yea, run the exe, will extract the img file into your PC. then transfer that file to your device

Added on March 29, 2009, 12:12 amya, i saved the backed up PIM file in my Micro SD card, to make sure it wont get deleted during the upgrade. but i will remove the microsd card before i upgrade ROM

you're welcome. i dun have an Omnia so i cant give specific advice, but can help out if its generic windows mobile enquiries. again, remember to back up your PIM file. or place it in a FOLDER in your storage card. there has been reports of the file "disappearing" somehow if placed in the root area of the storage card

I had forgot the map in which package.
If I am wrong maybe it was packed as wat Baronix said.
Currently mine was combined E and W Maylasia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei.

im upgrading my Omnia. do u remember how many times it will download? i mean it will show there 1st download, when 100% completed, it will move it 2nd download, then 100%. mine now 5th download, 100% completed, but it stuck there now, not going to 6th.... im not sure got 6th or not.

but i dare not to remove the cable. is this completed?

hmm..as my memory can recall..i unplug after 5th download.
then the phone will restart itself...but will take longer for restarting..
plz dun unplug 1st,try c some other's opinion as i'm afraid i might not rmb fully..

some strange happen, just now when it stuck, then i try to press and hold all the buttons, try one by one. no effect, so after tat i use the stylus to press the Reset button, then the phone restart.

now i can use the phone, lucky not dead yet. im not sure if it is updated, i don see Samsung Widget, i checked the ROM by pressing *#1234#

it shows:

PDA: i900XIA5/DZIA5

Phone: i900DXHJ1

Contents: i900DXIA5


is this considered updated?

battery is 80% now, will charge it, tmr morning will try to upgrade again.

Just now i was trying to install an apllication to my samsung omnia, but the following msg popped out:

Device main memory not enough

Storage memory is critically low. If the storage memory is not increased, other programs may not be ablie to start. Use File Explorerto delete files that are no longer needed ormove some files to a storage card

I checked my memory status

Main :
Storage : total 87.69 MB, In use 82.74 MB Free 4.95 MB
Program : total 96.24MBIn use46.77 MB, Free 49.47 MB

Storage card:
around 15GB left

1. How come only a little memory left in main memory? even though i used task manager to switch off all the apllication?
2. How to transfer files from main memory to storage card? I couldnt find where MAIN MEMORY is.
3. There is storage site in the fon,namely My storage(1Gb) & Storage card(16Gb), which 1 is main memory?
