*repost, in case some of you missed it...
1. Bitrate = the quality of the video, how tiny is the dot in your movie similiar to what we have as our desktop resolution, so for easy understanding i would say Bitrate = Video resolution 2. Resolution = it actually represent how big is the actual size of the video... you can have 1920 x 1080 size video in your tube, but if you have the bitrate of 64 then you can go die.. cuz the quality sux badly.... 3. Framerate = how many frame is played per second, higher framerate meaning bigger filesize but smoother transition in the video... it goes like this: if you have 1FPS meaning 1 frame per second, your video will be like a slide show... switch picture every 1 second, but if you have 20FPS then you will have 20 pictures switched in 1 second. so when it comes to setting: (if you play on your tube without streaming on TV) 1. Bitrate = less than 256kbps 2. Resolution = 320 x 180 (since this is the actual size of your tube) 3. Framerate = 25 or below, 20 or above (i noticed some minor lag when i use 30fps) 4. Audio bitrate = 64k (you dont need such high quality sound if you're playing on your tube, since it wont make significant difference.) 5. Output format = *.*MP4, Video codec: Mpeg-4, audio codec: AMR or FLAC above is setting is for long lasting playing duration, smaller filesize and optimal quality for almost every video... *note: above setting not suitable for streaming via TV if you are streaming on TV, later part after i finish my guide.. i'll post it up... |

Bitrate = Quality of Video = How well the video is rendered. Bitrate = Reso, too simplistic a term as a 1200kbps video encoded at 320x240 will STILL be ass blocky (to my eyes anyhow). Reso is still very improtant IMHO, and I can never go below 640x352 (even then feel stretched a bit, need to switch off stretch aspect ratio on Realplayer). But in terms of settings, yeah, each for their own, EC... I personally go for (keep in mind I use Allok for the convenience and speed, gave up on Super OR Handbrake some time ago): 1. Bitrate = High/Good (Variable BitRate (VBR) settings on Allok = around 1000 average for High, 800-900 average for Good) 2. Resolution = 640 x 352 forced 16:9 aspect ratio (since this is the nearest I can ever get to the actual 640x360 RESOLUTION of your tube, wasted IMHO if set lower. BUT EC was right, check the SOURCE first. Make sure this if LOWER then the SOURCE reso if you want the OUTPUT file to be smaller then the SOURCE file) 3. Framerate = 23.976fps (most vids come in this or something near this anyhow, setting them diff MIGHT affect the sound sync, not sure) 4. Audio bitrate = 128k, 44100Hz Stereo (For me the video can suck a bit, but the sound should never ever) 5. Output format = MP4 Xvid, AAC audio (our tubes can play FLAC meh? Didn't know that...) And from a 170MB, 20 min DIVX anime file I get a 80-90MB MP4 file... Not a significant reduction but it works for me... Anything lower then that and I get my eyes and ears sore (being too used to full 640x480, high speed any file format playback on my old Axim is NOT a good thing)... Although my walkaround for the tube not having proper video playlist support (merging the saperately encoded episodic anime MP4 files using AVIDEMUX, cutting away the intro and outro of the episodes in the middle to save space) always craps the Video/Audio sync after the halfway point by around 10-15 miliseconds, give or take... BUT, if you like to tweak and tweak and tweak, go for Super... For me IMHO Zune VC is good enough... Although if you need the all rare kinda sorta file support, Allok has never failed me for Single-Audio MKVs... Dual-audio MKV/OGGs are a different matter though, never really could choose the correct audio/sub stream... And Xilisoft? Don't even make me come near that... I has constantly failed to render me MKV subs, even in the preview... Maybe it's a Vista problem... Actually, being a free semi-Adobe Premier alternative, AVIDEMUX by itself should be good enough for you tweakers wanting to squeeze out the last bit of quality from your Tubes... It's GREAT, although the learning curve is crap near vertical IMHO... This post has been edited by Eiraku: Mar 11 2009, 03:04 AM |

@eiraku ^^ i agree with you.... super is for maximum tweak of your video... and that my point from the beginning... you should always check your source video setting first b4 you convert it... the setting i put is for generic playability... as i said... the quality might not be that good.. but it's good enuf for those who seek for long hour of playing... i notice when playing higher resolution video, the tube battery dont last long.... actually when you use super... it wont affect the sound sync... and sorry it's not FLAC it's AAC, typo...
Added on March 11, 2009, 3:01 amguys trust me... any additional protection like the rubber cover will make the tube look bulky... This post has been edited by echo.Garden: Mar 11 2009, 03:01 AM |

Then you'd REALLY want to check out AVIDEMUX... It's like Super WITH video editing AND even MORE tweaking options... Plus it's open source AND free... Added on March 11, 2009, 3:01 amguys trust me... any additional protection like the rubber cover will make the tube look bulky... But in terms of long battery playability, yeah I can't argue with that... 640x352 = crap battery life, say 5 episodes of 20 min anime and it's dead... One of the reasons why I got an ext-USB battery pack! This post has been edited by Eiraku: Mar 11 2009, 03:09 AM |

just went to their website wiki section
MPEG files Avidemux cannot open raw MPEG streams. Instead, it can open indexed MPEG streams. The index is a text file containing navigation information. It is needed to allow frame accuracy. When you open an MPEG file, you will be asked to create the index file. If the selected file looks like foo1.xxx, Avidemux will try to append foo2.xxx, foo3.xxx It is done automatically but the file must have a name like *[0-9].xxx. Avidemux can handle one (and only one) audio stream from an MPEG file at a time conclusion: until it's stabilized not gona use it... Added on March 11, 2009, 4:18 amerm one reason i choose super over avidemux, is super released earlier than avidemux, the development is much better interms of encode decoding and converting, since i use other software for editing, i dont really see the nid for avidemux... but it's a nice software undeniable....
