I got mine from an Ebay reject shop (returned goods but no problem). Only cost me like RM75 by then, really like it and around 13c comfortable temperature. Actually it's perfect for our climate (too thin for UK tho).

Now thinking to get another similar, but the price for my current sleeping bag (size and weight) would range around RM200 back here.

I am thinking about Hammock too, but as you know my weight.. I think camps are more practical, yeah, thinking of getting a 3 men too.. (not to get too up close and personal tongue.gif). Let me go around and shop.

Let me list out some store, add on if you know more

Corezone seems to target the high end.
Explorer Outfitter seems to be the lower - Mid end
World Of outdoor is around mid to high end
Evergreen in Bandar Tun Razak (haven't been)
*
Even if you opt for a 3 men tent it is still quite near to one and another. Bags will still need to be place outside to allow more space for the head/leg placement. Best advice to get a tent, if it is 2 person kept add 1 to the tent size. For example, 2 men - 3 men tent, 4 men - 5/6 men tent.

The hammock can support your weight. Just need to make sure the knot you tied strong enough, cannot use those thin nylon strings. Problem with hammock, certain mountains got no trees at the campsite. Even with camp, I prefer to have fly+ground as Coleman fly are not strong enough to resist a strong rainfall and it could be an issue when you want to grab some sleep.

Corezone at SS2 and Lafuma at Bangsar memang high value but I do grab certain things there like hiking bags, inflatable matress, shoes, etc. Explorer Outfitter at Publika could be a good option if you are new into camping. Evergreen are famous for their blue gas canister called Camping Gas especially the CV470 series.

the 2 men camp in Msia seems to only accommodate 2 kids lolx.
While the 8 men camp that I use in UK (not for hiking tho), can accommodate 10 with their luggage in their tent
*
I totally agreed with you on the Malaysia version. It seems smaller and will be hard for people with the height of 170cm above. Width not long enough somewhere, somehow.

Finished my two trips to Saga taking routes a,c and d. Trek was fun  thumbup.gif  but the peak was quite disappointing tho, couldn't see much as a lot of trees covered the area..
*
Peak mostly do not have much view and it is mark with the metal tent aka beirut.

Even Nuang is the same haha.. can see a bit of the lake la.. if you look through hard enough
*
Nuang still got a little view where you head downhill towards Janda Baik route and you are able to get a glimpse of the catchment area. Besides that, there are hardly anything to see. There used to be view at Puncak Pengasih (false peak) but I am not sure how's the condition over there now.

Anyone been to Bukit Kembara/Bukit Indah before? How is it?
*
Bukit Indah and Bukit Kembara at Ampang. Entry point is near towards the Darul Ehsan golf course sandwich in between two houses. Trek up like Bukit Saga for about 10-20 minutes and you will reach a catchment area.

To Bukit Kembara it is opposite of the catchment area where your position at and that will take you another 30 minutes top to trek to the peak of Bukit Kembara.

Used to have another Bukit there but unfortunately it is already dense with fallen bamboos and trees when I last went there back in 2012.

Walking around the catchment area will easily take you another 30-45 minutes top.

But do beware of thieves or robbers as the place gets pretty quiet after 9.30 AM as not much people know the route.

EDIT: - I attached one link for your better understanding

QUOTE(gs20 @ Jul 7 2014, 12:35 AM)
Today went to Tabur West for the first time. It's really a nice hiking experience! But from the side view, I seem like Tabur East is much more challenging. I don't get the idea on why Tabur West require a permit while Tabur East doesn't.
*
More people aware of Tabur West instead of East and Extreme. More people, more possibility incidents will happen.

Newbies take Tabur West's gradient lightly and with that incident occurred. Some tried to jump from one stone to another (peak 5 if I am not mistaken), some not being careful when descent down at peak 7/8 (where the two doctors died) and the peak 10 (backtrack using the orchard route).

As for Tabur East, the danger part only occurred towards the very end where the vertical climb was. Climbing up is easy but will be a slight challenge when descent. Other than that shouldn't be a problem.

Also found out that there another hiking entrance to Nuang from kg. Kemensah. Anyone tried doing it before?
*
Why do you want to try from Kemensah? I know there used to be a trail to Chenuang but long time abandon because abundant of wild cats in the woods. Uncertain there are any connection to Nuang at any point.

Anyone know where is the destination spot that comes with sea fishing. My dad loves fishing and has not done sea fishing for long. Intend to bring him but do not know where cause I do not fish. Please share.
*
Sea fishing the best place to head to in Peninsular Malaysia will be Mersing, Johore. About time for Sail Fish season.

Guys, need some advice.

Planning to go to Nuang twice (this month and next month) to test my gears before going to mountain with 3800+m asl.

Is there any place(mountain) I can go without spending more than 1 night beside Nuang ?

Thanks
*
What's the height you are looking at? Most mountain tops 1 night camping unless you are targeting the G7.

Where is that 3800a.s.l?
*
Only one place in Malaysia have such height and that will be Gunung Kinabalu. Rest all 2,700 m below.

How to go about it cause my dad will go alone fishing.  Been looking for suitable place to bring him though.
*
Just drive all the way to Mersing and engage a local guide for fishing. More likely it will be a 3 days 2 nights thingy. You need more information, I can try to ask my friends who are into such activities.

thumbup.gif tks with this I will be able to plan the holiday as I have been scratching my head don't know where to start, how many days to go etc. I intend to bring him somewhere near first like desaru. Hotel just replied me rm300 for 2 hours and 4 hours for rm500. Ok AR?
*
I am not sure about the price but if you are to go fishing, you need not stay in a good hotel as you will be sleeping in the boat.

If your dad is into squid fishing, I heard some head to Port Klang to do so during the night.

Kerinci and Rinjani

Kerinci and Rinjani in Indonesia. Different gear after all especially in terms of the climate.

Which state you are looking at to do the camp?

Any state within 4-5 hours drive from KL should be fine.

I'm planning to go kerinci on October and rinjani by May next year. So I gonna test my wet and dry packing smile.gif

Try those mountains within the Cameron Highland range. Should be good for you since it will take less than 4 hours of hike and you are able to camp there.

They are: -
Gunung Yellow - approximate 3-4 hours, campsite on the peak, got water source about 3-5 minutes hike down from the campsite on your right. Could drop by to Gunung Pass at one of the junction. Less than 2 minutes, no view point.

Gunung Suku - approximate 2-3 hours, two campsites on the peak. False peak on the right, actual peak on the left. Water source will be the ravine before the summit climb as it is a M type of mountain.

You might want to consider: -

Bukit Kutu @ KKB - 4-5 hours hike from Sungai Pertak. First two rivers have bridge, once you cross the third river, stay left and the trail will lead you up. There are water source in the peak but I wouldn't be sure whether it is still clean since people kept litter around the peak in the past.

Gunung Ulu Semangkok @ Fraser - 3 hours hike from GAP Rest house. No water source. Windy during the night.

Pine Tree Trail & Twin Peak @ Fraser - Indication of last water point at KM 3-3.9 marker. Most people camp there but you could opt to camp at either peak.

Gunung Bunga Buah @ Genting - Cannot remember about my hike there but should be around 4 hours hike with most people camp near to the beirut. Able to see Klang Gate Dam and Genting Highlands if weather is clear. Will ask about the water source if keen.
