well, from economic point of view, it is cheaper to upgrade throttling system than adding bandwidth for over 200k users. just a few super servers, running 24/7. cheap and good for celcom.

it happened to me too. not today though. sometimes cannot even detect 3G for an hour or so. last year even the heaviest rain or storm, signal is still quite good. think celcom did something. but it is understandable given the condition of rain n storm.
just that now the upload speed is extremely slow. especially for those capped. i must say using celcom now, especially D98 is kinda waste of money. went to maxis today to check on 3G broadband. i think maxis is tricking ppl. they say they abolish the contract but in reality, it still exists, just being rephrased into some other thing. every new application requires RM100 (not advance payment or deposit). it is the installation fee something like that. it is not stated in the website for some reasons. so i was quite shocked. then if terminate be4 2 years, need to pay RM200. it is the same wif old contract... last time, installation fee FOC but termination of contract is RM300 if i am not mistaken. so quite expensive. planning to go to celcom point tml and complain about the slow upload. so sick of being unable to attach any files... if they cant rectify this problem, i guess i have to switch although maxis would cost alot more. wish digi is in my area. 50GB is way more than enuf for my monthly usage... |

ic. then it proves the theory that celcom is indeed exercising their throttling system. no more running away from capped speed.
![]() upload speed is beta. but still have difficulty posting here, uploading or even chatting using MSN... maybe 44kbps is top upload speed then. This post has been edited by mar_ware: Mar 7 2009, 06:16 PM |

dun think RM299 package is a good idea. it comes wif 18 month contract. and i think celcom will probably throttle the speed quietly to ensure that u dun use alot of bandwidth. u said u use 5GB in a day, that means about 150GB a month. celcom wont just sit around n do nothing. after all, they promise u speed up to 3.6Mbps. they can just lower it down as long as it is higher than the capped speed of 128kbps. maybe lets say 512kbps or just 1Mbps if u lucky.
@atrash: everywhere is the same. under 5GB, u got good speed. after 5GB, u capped. @silentser: it has been a problem for about a month now. called celcom like 5 times. no solution. it seems that celcom is curbing their bandwidth strictly. capping after 5GB and slow upload of 10+kbps... ic. then u can check in celcom coverage page. there should be able to check 3G coverage.
can we increase the dissatisfaction level to 98% or higher? so we can reflect how bad celcom connection is. general public should noe about this. or at least LYN ppl. |

QUOTE(de4thscythell @ Mar 8 2009, 09:50 AM) I'm getting used already seeing the HUGE different between the download speed and the upload speed Not to sound pessimistic, the last time i called the CS, the guy said it is normal for that kind of upload speed. I argued that last time it was about 100kbps. Now 10kbps... He told me he will look at the problem. Till now, there has been no improvement wadsoeva n that call was almost a week ago. Yesterday i got 40kbps upload at the max. Today back to super slow... I really dun think celcom will do anything about this. More like their new measures to curb bandwidth. Now am outside using other connection. Every connection is beta than celcom coz now i can update my facebook...How much longer do we need to face this problem? Kinda pathetic having a mobile broadband at the speed of dial-up and cant even be used everywhere coz it's too slow... Ya. 64kbps is like dial-up. Too slow for almost anything except light surfing. As for me, D98 should be at least 384kbps. But it will be like D68 but with steroid pumped for 1st 5GB... So i dun think celcom will go that way.
Anyway 64kbps or 128kbps is too slow. I left my compie on for 2 days now. To update softwares... Early congrats to u, fruitie. Plan to go wired? Or switch wireless operators? This post has been edited by mar_ware: Mar 9 2009, 11:37 AM |

7 kbps for upload... how come u can finish. i neva seem to be able to finish upload coz of the ridiculous upload speed. thanks to super-fast sialcom broadband... even its own EDGE upload speed is faster.
so sick of retrying or reloading pages that r left hanging halfway... |

As usual. Capped to 120-something kbps for down. Dunno for my upload though. Speedtest took ages...
I also think Celcom will not improve. At least not any time soon. The CEO made an announcement that they will be adding more bandwidth but the mystery question is by when? 2012? 2020? As of now, the no. of customers by rite r already beyond Celcom's capacity and they still taking customers. Plus this is the first news ever telling that Celcom will increase their bandwidth after years of operating this 3G BB service. True, the line nowadays is far from stable. I did have some disconnection or 0bps download at times. Still quite alrite since the problem wasnt for the whole day or something. But worse still is the stupid upload speed. I cant use my MSN, must use web-based IM to chat. Very inconvenient and also no more update for my blog when using Celcom BB. Posting here is worse. Have to retry so many times... Even using dial-up have no prob posting here... As of now, Celcom has the widest coverage and thus doesnt feel the need to compete. In KL area, ppl can switch to different ISPs but for most parts, Celcom is the only ISP, allowing them to monopolise the market. I believe DiGi may be able to compete wif Celcom soon, once they set up more coverage. As for maxis, it is now at least beta than Celcom given their higher upload speed and they havent implement fair usage policy yet. I remember 6 months ago, Celcom wins from maxis hands-down. No question. Now, maxis wins Celcom hands-down and pants-off... This post has been edited by mar_ware: Mar 10 2009, 10:15 AM |

QUOTE(fruitie @ Mar 10 2009, 11:15 AM) Found another new nest at MMU that has superb WiFi connection. Wow... that's like 1% of Celcom capped speed. Since one 350MB series takes 7+ hours using Celcom... That is less than an hour using ur connection... Wow! So fast... ENVY!!! Well, D68 before capped is ok. But after that, 64kbps dunno can use for wad.![]() Brought some series to download, can't bring more as I've exam tomorrow. Anyway, yesterday I was using Celcom broadband for torrent and it was around 40kB/s. Quite good for D68. This post has been edited by mar_ware: Mar 10 2009, 11:39 AM |
