As i told by the promoter, i also sign up yesterday at Low Yat roadshow.
RM88 explore with free modem.
She said if i terminate next month or later, i have to pay RM15/month for the modem. If like this it quite ok for me because it only cost RM180 ( RM15x12 )
so if next month i want to cancel, i will pay for RM15x11 month
( dont forget your upfront payment RM100. )

But i'm not sure if got any other termination fees or not.

Unluckly this area don't have 3G coverage, show only EDGE signal when connected.

Reported at USJ21/8.

This is report using streamyx 2Mb

That's the termination fee.. nothing else.

BTW, your EDGE looks good. Better than Celcom's 384kbps...

looking at the chart, it would be bad for digi to say theoretical speed > 3.6mbps and u can only get average 700kbps.. i would rather have my streamyx > 1mbps and im getting 1mbps.
*
The only thing is, you would never get Streamyx to perform that well... If they had, mobile bb players would just have to pack up...

same as my house's location. Keeps downgrading to EDGE, whcih is pointless because i'm paying for 3G speed, not turtle speed (pun intended).
*
That's normal bro. Set up the connection for WCDMA only and you will probably get 3G most of the time. Also, try to put the modem closest possible to the window... sometimes it helps... trust me.

my office got celcom 384k also, can get around 0.3Mb, better than digi edge.
*
Not being biased, try using the service around town and you will see the difference. My area here in Wangsa Maju and Tmn Tun Dr Ismail, Celcom 384kbps crawls big time and is like dial-up speed. I guess there are more users connected at my area...

That should be normal if you subscribe to the Discover or Explore packages.

Very spurious tonight. Keeps dropping to EDGE before disconnecting me altogether. Hiyoh what is happening....
*
Try to use the long cable with 2 USB heads... Normally with more power, you will be able to get better signal reception.

It was not that. Signal has always been stable, never disconnected suddenly until yesterday.

I'm using the E160 from DiGi, BTW

Try to use the long cable and force the modem to WCDMA only.

sry for the misunderstanding

but strangely just now during the tunderstorm, its like the tower nearest to me was struck or something cuz normally i get full bar max but for half an hour i completely got no signal from it and was like using another far away tower ... nearly no signal at that point
theres a long cable for the e160? i though it was only a usb stick only?

Call them up to report the problem.

the answer is yes... which mean the max bill you need to pay per month for discover/explore is RM138.
*
Right now they are having promo packages almost every weekend. After I checked with their CS, the promo packages does not charge for the extra usages.

I used to subscribe to the Explore plan quite a while back and I realise that DiGi does not really charge the additional usages anymore!!! Wooo Hoooo.....

Check your August bill guys!!!!

I think they have taken out the additional charges to compete with the rest!!!

Viva La DiGi!!!

Is your subscription Discover/Explore? Only Extreme can get 2Mbps and above.

My area too is slow. I think this is a network wide maintenance, not isolated to the local district towers.
*
How's your speed after the maintenance period guys?

Have you use quota over 10Gb ? How about the speed after 10Gb?
*
I normally use more than 20GB...

First month was chargeable at RM138. But I notice that my July & August bill was at RM108. That was when they started the promo packages without the additional charges...

I think in due time they will make the official announcement.

After 10 GB, i feel that some applications are throttled.... Probably they have implemented their FUP.

QUOTE(davidmak @ Aug 19 2009, 12:09 AM)
Hmm.. sounds very very misleading. The 3.6Mbps theoretical speed is actually the maximum capable speed of the E160E USB modem. But the service is capped at 1Mbps. How we know its 1Mbps? Thats because this is the market expectation paying at such a price point. But Digi quote likely average speed which is 700kbps. That was the common understanding discussed and established over here few weeks ago. Discover and Explore users only capable to a maximum download speed of 1Mbps. Extreme users 2Mbps and up.

Unless, Digi has expanded their service to allow Discover/Explore users to 3.6Mbps maximum then its a different story. That will put Digi on the same competitive advantage with Celcom and Maxis. Celcom and Maxis allow their users up to 3.6Mbps also... but that depends on the time of the day and location.

So until Digi representatives here explain.. the 3.6Mbps theoretical speed can mean anything: Maximum speed capable by the USB modem or maximum download speed allowed on the internet plan (meaning no longer capped at 1Mbps).

OR maybe Digi is trying to justify and explain to curious users who ask why is their USB modem showing the connected speed in Windows XP, Vista, etc 3.6Mbps. This is link speed and is similar to connecting to LAN ethernet network where it will report 10/100/1000Mbps but ultimate the speed depends on the downlink from Digi. Basically going back to our internet subscription plan.

So these are the current situation.
*
I think DiGi has a system that ensures everyone will get roughly the likely average speed... Unlike Maxis and Celcom who opens up the whole bandwidth to be eaten up by the bandwidth hoggers...

As long as they can maintain the ~1Mbps that I am getting right now, I am quite happy

update 2: as of this update post, everything has revert back to normal

Got the information from DiGi CS.

Access to certain sites (those via Singapore) may be impacted by the recent Indonesian earthquake. They are currently looking into the problem and may route the traffic into other possible links.

Higher latency is expected to certain sites which are rerouted.

Take note.

again detecting and connecting hsdpa but not hsdpa speed...max hovers around 130kbps according to the statistics.

what gives?, ive tried manual sear and i detect 3g network for all 3 (digi, celcom, maxis)
*
How did you test the speed? Please test with the speedometer on their website or on speedtest.net (KL server) to gauge your real download performance.

Testing from other servers may be skewed since it could be located overseas etc..

asking if wan speed higher than HSPDA i need to change my modem? seems no matter how strong the signal still 120kb/sec max. is it they cap or wad
*
Speed depends on the following:
- applications that you are using
- peak/non-peak hours

If you want to test the last mile speed, I would suggest that you use either the speedometer on DiGi's broadband website or speedtest.net (but make sure you test from KL server).

As for applications, some apps are resided overseas so the speed may be slower. The speed also depends on the server as well.

Hope this helps.

I noticed another peculiarity.

Whenever I insert the modem into my Vista notebook, instead of the DIGI INTERNET screen, I get the INSTALLATION screen and when I click auto-run then the DIGI INTERNET screen appears.

However, on my XP pc, I do not have this peculiarity.

I have tried reinstalling numerous times but the peculiarity persists.

This is normal with Vista. Just ignore the request.

may i ask digi is using dynamic ip or shared ip?

anyone try torrenting with digi before? any feedback?

how about online gaming? eg: ggclient, hows the ping?

might change to digi after this, the replies here is tempting.

Wireless network will limit your BT torrents especially during peak hours.

If there is no option, then your modem is not detected by the OS.

Try to uninstall and reinstall the connection manager again. Are you using Vista? If you are then please update with the patch on DiGi Broadband's website.
