QUOTE(Yan @ Jun 22 2009, 10:00 PM) yah well as i said.. i'm still trying out the racket and giving it a chance to impress me.. i decided to also buy the apdc just as a spare (coz i've used it before and luv it. so when all else fails i can fall back to that racket). Pro Supex ( all their strings which includes Blue Gear) is not available at tennis-warehouse, your best bet is to buy in Singapore, via ebay.p/s: anybody found the pro supex blue gear in malaysia ? wondering tenniswarehouse selling or not else can tumpang. Search ebay "pro supex" there is a Singaporean seller, very nice chap.Highly recommended! |

QUOTE(Yan @ Jun 23 2009, 07:51 AM) cool.. you are most helpful my fren, so far have gotten loads of info esp fr you. LOL don't embarass me lah bro, I am just like you, tennis kaki player lah, the forum here is to share information, spread the wealth , lol. Most of info is gathered off the internet or from personal experience.i'll be goin down singapore next mth so timing just nice. anything u need to get there ? I thank you for your most gracious offer, but I am good at the moment, have enough different types of tennis strings to experiment with at the moment. *IF* you are going to Singapore, please if you have a few spare hours, you should drop to Queensway Shopping Complex ( I recommend taking a Taxi, if and when you are in Orchard) I am not certain how much the taxi fare will be, but hopefully less than SGD10.00. That place is like the lowyat of tennis/sports stuff, better yet, you can bargain there! Adidas Barricades , the last time I checked last year before Christmas, one pair around SGD 115.00, but depend on size and model, if the you know abit of Malay or Chinese, depending on shop owner, you are encouraged to bargain!!! Rackets prices I cannot really comment, as I did not bother looking at rackets when I was there, but I noticed they had a shitload, of Babolats, Wilsons, Volkl,Fisher, Dunlop and friggin YONEX rackets! (confirm made in Japan) Cannot comment of selection of tennis apparel as well as I shopping for shoes, shoes and yes more shoes..... Hope that helps! |

QUOTE(angel-ice @ Jun 24 2009, 04:33 PM) does higher tension gives good control? Higher tension does give good control, while lower tension adds more power, I would agree this would be 100% correct before the introduction of "poly" strings, during when most pro's would string their rackets with only full Natural gut, hence while Ivan Lendl, Borg and Sampras strung their rackets at incredible high tensions, 72.5lbs for Lendl,80-90lbs for Borg and Sampras was either 72 or 75lbs per racket.and lower tension gives power? read about this before, but seeing that u guys in here always strung ur racket <55, wonder if this is true. With the introduction of Luxilon ie poly strings, pro's noticed that they could string lower, get more power and not sacrifice control, some people have said that the lower they string the more 'topspin' they get.So I recommend you experiment what works for YOU! :-D |

Hahaha since we talking about tennis strings at the moment, here is a list I have composed of over the past years, but I will keep this list current:
Poly strings, I would recommend to other tennis kaki's (preference to people using Wilson k6.1 tour, but you can experiment on your own racket) 1.Technifibre Black code ( you can choose between 16,17,18 gauge naturally 16 gauge will last longer than 18 gauge, but 18 gauge will give you more feel and spin) 2.Gamma Zo Twist , current set up on my k6.1 tour, needs at least 2-3 hitting sessions before the strings come to life, at first they felt unresponsive and dead. This didn't bother me, carried on playing with them, now they give dish out mad spin, quite happy with them. 3.MSV Hex. Quite similar to Gamma Zo Twist but a bit softer, dishes out mad spin as well, doesn't need any breaking in period. 4.Pro Supex Blue Gear, this string was the 1st string that convinced me, that poly are here to stay, I think I tried this string in early late 2007, boy oh boy I was giving fellow singles/doubles player's fits as my dipping topspin shots were making pop their volleys up, and my partner had a easy time nailing people in their junk, lobs with this were spot on.The only thing I hated about this string was the COLOR! At the time, Blue was only available, now there is a white option. 5.Pro Supex Big Ace, this is another string that has access to fantastic spin, however this string is not that durable, lasted me a whole 3 weeks, pls note I play almost 25 hours a week ;-p 6.Pacific X Force, hmmm this string is a slight enigma, it dishes out mad spin, has great tension maintenance, it's quite durable, no string movement, but i can't put my finger on it, it just didn't feel comfortable as the other strings, please don't let this comment deter you from trying this string. 7.Topspin Cyberblue, this string is AMAZING! If you have arm, shoulder problems, this string is soft, has mad spin ,great control, but I only recommend this string to people, who like stringing their rackets at LOW tensions, only thing above 54lbs, and you lose some of the strings natural attributes. If you have some strings that you would like to recommend, please share! I didn't mention Luxilon not that its not a good string, but Luxilon doesn't maintain tension that well, and it loses its playability after a few hitting sessions, but if you can afford it, more power to ya. |

LOL pls don't take this the wrong way I hate chatting via msn ym I don't even have account set up x-p. Feel free to direct only questions to me via PM, give me some time to reply, at least I don't give you a chaperang sp? answer, I will try my best to answer your question with my limited info.
Regarding most of the strings except for Pro Supex can be bought from tennis-warehouse( you must be sick of hearing that lol) I recall fellow lowyat member zdepth may be holding a small/big tennis bulk, next month after most forummer got their pay, so look for him 1st July,2009 tumpang him for some tennis strings lah, should have zero tax, as I ordered my Gamma Zo Twist via his previous bulk, didn't kena tax for the strings but kena tax 30% on clothing and frigging RF tennis cap. For Topspin strings, give bro Battousai a PM, I think he has local lobang for this string, if I recall correctly, please forgive me if I am mistaken, but can't hurt to ask lah, he is a very friendly guy. I read you are now using a APDC is that correct, I would try something along the range of 54-57lbs max! BUT let me ask you, you have used luxilon before, how was your balls like, too short inside service box, too deep going past baseline, too flat, not enough spin, too spinny , go high over the net, but no penetration/power? Pls give comments for both backhand/forehand/serve/volley. If you are shy, PM me, lah, will be discreet. If you are willing to share your experience on forum , more power to you, also please note, I am just a fellow tennis kaki lah, I am not guaranteeing you will be the next Federer/Nadal , but hopefully you will be a tennis player, even I learn new stuff everyday. :-D |

QUOTE(Yan @ Jun 25 2009, 11:00 AM) no problem dude. understand completely. Ok judging from what you have told me, and this is just a educated guess at best, I really cannot give you an accurate assessment without looking at your strokes "Live"well for pro supex (found the seller in singapore already). as for topspin blue found it in uptown selling for rm60 (will PM battousai see if he got any cheaper lubang). ok for luxilon strings, i'v used luxilon rough, alu power and ace 113 (18gauge). So far my comments on them is that when new they produce pretty good bite but after some prolonged playing, they tend to lose the "bite". and my normal stringing tension is around 55lbs. As for the balls, is has quite descent spin but not too much. penetration is no problem coz i do whack it hard. but i just feel probably the spin potential is not strong eventhough i'm using semi-western grip. though myself i don't think i know how to hit "flat" balls (mostly ppl associate with the eastern grip) but i think most my balls are a semi ( in between flat n spin ) coz it definitely has deep penetration and mostly hitting baseline area. I nver had a chance to view myself playing so not sure how spinny the ball is from the opponent side. forehand, having semi-western grip but sometimes do experiment with the western. long swing. backhand, 1handed bheastern grip also with a bit of spin i think. btw .. i'm not shy 1 lah .. coz really i'm still a beginner and learning via youtube and playing with frens. And of coz i don't aspire to be next champion, but i do really luv tennis and the fun of having to whack the ball at full speed. the only fun for me in tennis is driving the ball hard .. thus even though i don't play much game, but i just luv going down n stroking Ok for starters, it sounds like you know the feeling of your strings ie, impact of tennis ball on your strings, as you have said yourself, you have noticed luxilon losing its bite after a while, this is a general accurate consensus, luxilon does indeed lose its bite after 2 or 3 hitting sessions. Only millionaires and sponsored Pro's can afford to replace Luxilon after each hitting session. Next please check your racket strings for any notching if any, I have enclosed a pic: Please make sure you have used the same string on the racket for at least 2 weeks or at least 8-10 hitting sessions whichever is longer. If you have "notching" this means that you are hitting with some degree of spin, if you have zero notching this means your balls/strokes are flat. Semi Western grips are considered to be the best of both worlds today, ie you can have a real penetrating forehand, but here lies the problem, some people are under the illusion that the balls they hit are like Nadal, ie with SPIN galore, Nadal does NOT have a penetrating forehand, but he has the angles that move you from side to side. Your forehand sounds like something along the lines of a Lendl,Fed forehand hahaha , to me their forehands are basically flat BUT with just the right amount of spin that brings the ball back down to the court.Hence when is the last time you saw Federer break a string on the court, even though he changes rackets at almost at every ball change. To make a point do this can you hit a loopy forehand ie , the ball crosses the net like 4-6 feet high and stays in the court, do you have to control this shot, or can you hit it full blast and the ball does exactly that, clear the net 4-6 feet and land in the court OR does your stroke clear the net by inches and land near the baseline or near the service box? Let me know! Looks like a good topic is coming up, fellow tennis enthuasists please feel free to make any comments, as I am sure Yan and myself may learn something new. Attached thumbnail(s) |

QUOTE(Yan @ Jun 25 2009, 11:45 AM) nice very nice. yup i guess i do impart spin then.. coz my strings are pretty grooved. mostly all my poly will tend to "makan" into each other creating a "longkang" ..lol..i used to use crossfire 1yr+ ago. break em within a mth coz of the string action. Cool beans! Seems like you have a decent forehand, I would suggest a string that offers your CONTROL over power, since you are using a APDC , Babolat rackets are very stiff and powerful, and like I have mentioned it looks like you can generate your own pace, you won't need to rely on strings to provide power.yah i'm guessing mine is not like nadal's loopy style. coz i played with carto and his is a bit extreme in terms of grip and also the shots. extremely loopy with powerful kick. i don't have that loop or kick. mine is probably like you say, more penetration on court but goes down near the end @ the baseline. but i think i can do the 4-6feet over the net if i choose to but possibly not full power (will have to try it out later on court). but as for regular stroke can be safe to say, mine normally travels full length of court. or almost baseline area. so mostly i've heard comments of ppl loving to stroke play with me. ..lol well ppl that played with me, care to comment ? coz i can't see how i play or feel how i am hitting to you, so if you can pls do giv you inputs so can improve and learn also Out of all the strings I mentioned earlier on lol, don't hate me for this, if you have the financial resources , I would try the strings I mentioned, BUT I would recommend you string your APDC with a crap string, I will give you a tension later coz I dunno your current string setup, ie what string are you using and at what tension. Get back to me |

QUOTE(~Battousai~ @ Jun 25 2009, 02:44 PM) 8.45 USD for cyberblue ? DAMN YOU!!!!! that's hella cheap man.. the shop in uptown yan mention is memory sport right.. rm60 is overpriced.. can easily get rm50 or lesser depending on suppliers mood uh dont ask me for comment on strings coz i've never tried around due to using only sponsored strings lol j/k so cyberblue how much can you get it for? I wouldn't using that string if the price is reasonable, if can bulk rate, depends on minimum order quantity I may be up for it, provided some other people are as well.......hopefully x-p The only thing I hate about this string is the color, it does not match up at all with my k6.1 tour, but I guess it will match beautifully with the blue babolat's,no? So tauke, what racket are you using now? Youtek? Any news regarding my order, still haven't heard from you regarding shipping costs.....(unless you also got shipping discount as well, and ship for free j/k Pm me once you got the figure, will reimburse you once I know. Thanks man! |

QUOTE(Yan @ Jun 25 2009, 04:08 PM) battousai, Yhaa tried Cyberblue, but not at the same time as Blue gear, I prefer Cyberblue as it was a tad softer, more responsive, better feel but spin wise, I give the edge to Blue gear, but the difference is minute.Price wise, cyberblue wins, but like I said before, try and see for yourself, you may have a different opinion of the string.well i'm in for the cyberblue if can get cheaper. coz i asked the uptown shop the iranian shop is giving me rm60. so if can get lower than rm50 of coz jalan lah..haha.. also brother, any jalan to sell off my 4d300 tour ? praetorian, so you hav tried cyberblue, i mean if compare with bluegear. how many percent difference in terms of spin potential wud u say ? too little to differentiate ? or just about there ... coz if i'm not mistaken cyberblue is just normal rounded string . QUOTE(Yan @ Jun 25 2009, 05:09 PM) haha... i was just responding to some fella fr forum offering me RM200. which part of ridiculous price he didn't understand. kena "***-kaw" from me loh. if got this type of deal 1week old 9.9/10 racket at 50% ... and some more is the latest model. if you hav 10, i'll grab all from you. (not to brag) .. Thats a friggin good deal! Hahah even some old rackets if *brand new* collectors will pay 300-500% than retail price, example Pro Staff 6.0 85,St Vincent Model, Adidas Pro GTX (used by Ivan Lendl) just go to ebay and see for yourself.i know everybody looking for "hot deal-durian runtuh-deal" but must be reasonable also lah. if 1-2yrs old racket 50% i also give. but 1week old racket how lah? you tell me loh. pengsan lah me replying lots of nonsense PMs. at least a win-win situation for us all lah. you safe a bit fr buying here rather than from shop and i get to rugi a bit also. so everybody happy. i think i better post up the expected price. RM450.. fr retail. (btw i still have the receipt i think) If just didn't order 2 more Wilson K6.1 tours, I would so buy this racket and demo it and let my students test kau kau, if students like just order from Kenshin**(hint hint) QUOTE(pooh88 @ Jun 25 2009, 06:34 PM) If not mistaken after discount i got should be ard RM300.00 plus or minus like that LOL have some pity for the guy lah....U rich man mah, even give 70% off u don't feel a pinch But honesty my hats off to bro Yan, this 2 month I see he sell alot of tennis barang2, adidas barricade, K6.1 tour, now Dunlop lastest racket.... QUOTE(Yan @ Jun 25 2009, 09:17 PM) praetorian, WAH!!! So damn lucky!!!!is the cyberblue smooth surface ? or is it with edge (like blue gear) ? Also biasalah after 1yr+ never change anything, using my barricade for 3yrs and wilson kpro tour. These 2mths tangan gatal go change now have to trial and error .. bang wall. until find a suitable fit. lol.. pooh88, you sure or not you can get rm300+ for the Dunlop 4D300 Tour ? when i ask you last time before i buy that you said cannot get and cannot match the price from Topper / Ultimate .. now suddenly you can get rm300++ ? U yanking my chain ar ? Anyways latest update for my dunlop 4d300 tour!!!!: Poor 4D300 tour.. sudah send balik kedai. Found out the paint is chipping away. found one yesterday near the throat @ the grommet area. Then just now while playing with Eason, mishit and the ball landed on the top frame. 2 pieces of the paint fell off. i was like WTFx.. If i hit on the ground or another racket i'll accept the paint chipping off but a friggin' ball ? So gave the shop a call. Asked me to bring back and told me don't worry about the racket, he'll make sure i'm satisfied. Even told me probably they'll change for me a new racket or if i want to, can change another model also but need to let the Dunlop Sales ppl see first. yay yay !! So now new hope.. maybe another new racket coming lol. btw in the end, he gave me 2 demo rackets to try out while waiting for the verdict, -dunlop aerogel 300 (old model) -Prince Exo3 graphite (green color) [attachmentid=1043561] hehe....gilar already 2mths trying out so many rackets...lol Pls tell me what you think of the Prince EXO3 Graphite! If you have the chance, ask the boss if he got Prince EXO3 RED, see if can demo this one, I am DYYYYYYYYYYYYYIIIING to test this racket out myself, heard nothing but good reviews! But yhaaa get another APDC if you can, nothing better than a backup racket, no? Attached thumbnail(s) |

w00t!
Now can see my heroes, battousai and yan in the final!!!! Support bro zdepth as chair umpire, myself as ballboy, anyone else, but seriously this is good news for local tennis fans, now we have a chance to watch a real 'live' tournament! This is indeed good news, hopefully we can have a professional tournament, and hope proper training for ballboys, umpire and linesman are done well before the tournament. |

Hmmm RM69.00 for technifibre's black code isn't that bad a price, hopefully with some haggling you can get it down to RM55-60.
I very rarely buy strings locally, most of my purchases are done oversea's ie tennis-warehouse.Its just more convenient to buy multiple brands at the same place, I have hybrid almost type of string out there, its just fun lah, dunno why. Well thats too bad, you couldn't source Gamma's Zo Twist and Magic, coz both of those strings are pretty above average strings in their own right, if you can ask Gamma Malaysia and see if they have Gamma Zo Tour ROUGH, only comes in 16 gauge, string around 54 max on your APDC and let us know what you think :-p |

Even nadal is on 25.5kg(56lbs)-duralast. hehe.... though i'm not emulating to be nadal..lol Personally if I were you I would string it 54lbs, Nadal has used duralast since he was a kid, he will not change his string no matter what, unless he finds a string that he like period, even Babolat have marketed that he is using Babolat Pro Hurricane TOUR, which off course he isn't he is using Babolat Duralast which is only available in Europe, even the US doesn't carry this string.Pic is Babolat Duralast Attached thumbnail(s) |

QUOTE(Yan @ Jul 1 2009, 10:31 AM) actually you know what, our malaysian group are not that adventurous to try new rackets, mostly more towards the mainstream rackets such as those top-reviewed rackets and popular rackets like k6.1 90, apdc etc. But can't blame also due to the no-demo / trial rackets thus making "testing" rackets an expensive thing. moreover our strings are damn expensive also lol. Strings are indeed significantly cheaper, but LABOR to string a racket there in the US cost them at least 15US - 35US to string a single racket, hence tennis players in the US buy their own stringing machine, if I could get a stringing machine (electronic) below 2grand RM, I may consider getting one.i have a tennis friend in the US, he likes to just once a while just go shop and get one demo and hit it for few weeks before determining whether it's good or not. also although their rackets there seem pricey US199. but their strings are kinda cheap $10. so he like goes and try out different tensions / strings almost every other weeks. I ENVY them..!! lol |
