See the difference. The right portion has lucious growth, green and broad leaves while the other area is washed out. This is because pearl grass cant stand direct sunlight. The right side is in a shady area of my house. There's basically a vertical line separating the two grass conditions.

I feel planting grass is easy. But take care is time consuming. This 2week only, almost everyday I have to pluck out the weed. It grow faster than I can pluck it out.  sweat.gif

So even you asking someone to plant for you, they are not going to following takecare for you. You still have to do the job to make sure it grow healthy. That is really you need to learn.

+1
The maintain the lawn is really timing consuming compare to set it up.

Of course. What make you think carpet grass need not to fertilize?

Last time i check at Sg Buloh nurseries they're selling it at RM6/sqft. By far the most expensive type of grass being sold here.

I used to have 3000 sf of pearl grass. They thrived under full sun, but needed lots of water, mostly twice a day to do well under full sun. The roots are very shallow, and they dry up real fast! Even hen pecking can cause uprooting of the grass. The only advantage is they tolerate shade better than zoysia.

Hi All sifu,

After one month ++ of planting, some part of my Japanese grass turn into brown.
Do I need to remove all the brown and dying grass and finally let the soil expose to sunlight (means botak)?
or I just need to trim the brown grass become shorter?

Thank you.

Grass planting project at my new house. Location Sungai Petani Kedah

Step 1 - Remove weeds and leftover stone.

Attached Image

Step 2 - Put fine sand and do leveling. After that, I spray weed killer and leave it for a few days.

I put full for right and half for left because I will put tiles and do awning at the remaining of left side. I need around 3 yards of sand and it cost me RM55 x 3 = RM165

It does not totally kill all weeds i think due to rain season.

Step 3 - Bought pearl grass at Bukit Mertajam, cost me RM2 per 2 x 1 feet including send it to my house.

I bought 260 pieces for right side (80 x 7). The grass a bit dirty because rain almost everyday here. I put at the right side first.

Attached Image

Step 4 - Install it myself. Took me around 3 hours, really gave pain to my back

Attached Image

Cost
- Fine sand RM55 x 3 = RM165
- Grass RM2 x 260 = RM520 (right)
- Grass RM2 x 170 = RM340 (left)

I havent put at the left side, afraid it cant survive during renovation work, workers will step on it. I will update the result after a week notworthy.gif
