QUOTE(alanyuppie @ Oct 20 2010, 05:34 PM) I was advised (to save cost), don't buy grasses to cover exactly the size to be turfed. This means for 200 sqr feet of land, no need buy 100 pieces of 2 sqr feet grass patch. Just buy maybe a quarter of that quantity and place/grow them with some spacing from each other. Sooner or later they will creep to cover the empty spot. How true is this? Yes, it is true. I myself just buy 5pcs and chop it to small pcs 10cm by 10cm to cover about 10m2. Spread it equally. Than cover it with fine sand for it to grow. (those white river sand) It take about 6-9mth to grow. Depend how much you cover per sq. 1 carpet of grass about 15cm by30cm cost RM7. |

QUOTE(alanyuppie @ Oct 21 2010, 04:09 PM) I was qouted rm1.80 per 2 sqrfeet for taiwan grass in sg buloh. Is there a formula to find out the growth time to cover the whole lawn based on the lawn size and total grass patch sizes? I m not sure what type of grass I m having now. First time I brought wrong as it abit thick the grass. Than I go back to brought again. This time I get the more fine type which is abit expensive. Brought from sg. buloh too.For my case, I wish to grass up 200sqr feet of lawn. Let's say I buy 100sqrfeet of grass patches, cut 'em up and plant em with equal distance from each other. How many weeks will it take to fully grass-ify my lawn? I don't have the fomula. Just get the instruction from my friend how to plant. You want grow fast, plant it more smaller spacing. But will cause you more grass and money. My case take 8-9mth to fully grow. To save money, got to passion. One more thing to make it grow faster and greener is to put the fertilizer every 2week. It somekind like a white seed in packard. Can get it from sg.buloh. |

One thing forget to inform is, you much work hard to plug out those rubbish grass or unwanted grass that grow together.
If not, the unwanted/ rubbish grass will overcome your grass. Or eat up your grass. |

This is what I do. When I m lazy to maintain the grass, I don't put the fertilizer and water. It will grow slow and can last for many month. But the grass won't be green and nice. It will become yellowish and scattered.
But when I m not lazy, just fertilizer it and water. Between a month you can see your grass green and nice. But prepare to trim and hardwork. Added on November 3, 2010, 8:46 am QUOTE(kathlynn @ Nov 2 2010, 10:37 AM) ooo...thanks so much for your input.... You sound not that experience. Better leave the job to expert. This kind of money can't be save.still am not sure whthr to engage the bangla dude... afraid that he will not give wat is promised i.e. the quality of grass etc.. alt is i go to sg buloh n source for it myslf n then jus ask the bangla to do the labour.... If you no experience, you can't get a nice garden as what you want. Once the expert get your garden done, you can learn from them. In future, you can try it yourself in small scale. QUOTE(alanyuppie @ Nov 3 2010, 03:49 PM) You just pull my words right out of my brain. So many idea and thing to do. All this inside my brain and dream. I m lazy type. He... Just planting grass and takecare already feel lazy. Well my "1st phase" plan would be turfing my porch with grass , and putting in some hexagonal blocks as paths right to my doorstep. Well uhmm nearly half my porch are cemented. If I have more budget, I would wish to apply wooden flooring to cover it and buy some nice wooden table and chairs and put outside, so I can hang out and sipping my cool coffee. Would really want to dig a small pond too, but I'm waiting for my thumb to turn green. One third of my front yard is garden. Others is tiles up. (L shape.) I do have 2 chair and a table place back sliding door and front is garden. So sipping coffee and watching my green grass in the morning. While getting mosquito bite. |

QUOTE(luminox @ Nov 8 2010, 07:04 PM) hi brothers & sisters... I have laying this underground pipe before plant the grass long ago. Just DIY only. read the entire thread, pretty good discussion... however, have you tot of placing an underground lawn piping system? ala those grey color 4" pipe and you make a 10 cent holes let's say every 5 inch apart? this solution are for those experiencing flooding lawn condition.. My lawn is having water patches all over after each down pour and I am/or already started ground soil piping work at snail pace however.. DIY style. I also intend to rigged up and lay down automatic water dispenser, like those Claber or Karcher (its expensive, i know)... Suggestions, idea & show-how is much appreciated. Buy those pvc pipe. Drill alot of hole. Lay few pcs about 10cm below ground and at the end of the pipe toward longkang. Than cover with medium size rock. Than small rock than sand. The rock is made sure the water easy can go in the pipe. So far solve my flooding garden. |

QUOTE(luminox @ Nov 8 2010, 11:36 PM) thanks ozak, but the pvc pipe towards longkang need to drill a hole according to its pvc size right? Yup. You need to drill the hole at longkang for the pipe and follow the pipe size. You don't have that drill size. Drill a few small hole according to pipe size and hack the cement till the pipe can fit in. |

Just get the grass fetilizer, dilute with water and spray it. About few weeks, the brown patch will be grow back with green grass.
Sometime I have this problem too. Even larger patch. Reason unknown. |

You can use weed killer or call lalang killer chemical from nursery. Add it with water and spray at your garden. Between 2week, all the grass or whatever will die. Than you can start plant your grass.

QUOTE(KiDkillER @ Jan 9 2012, 02:06 PM) Ooo..sounds better..I thought I need to remove them by hand manually in 1 day so that the grass wont grow in another day.. No need new soil. But if you plant those taiwan grass or similiar, you need fine sand. After spraying weed killer..wait for 2 weeks.. then do I need to lay new soil? Or I can directly plant the new grass on it? |

QUOTE(KiDkillER @ Jan 9 2012, 03:00 PM) erm..I'll remove the existing grass with weed killer..then remove them after 2 weeks..then I'm going to buy ready grass and lay on it rather than seed...so I assume it doesn't need any skill for this except strength? My way isCorrect me if I'm wrong please...I'm new to this too.. lol... 1) Kill the grass with weed killer 2) wait 2week. 3) take out the dead grass and make the soil loose by cangkul. 4) Buy the ready grass. Chop it to 4-6pcs equally. Depend your budget. 5) plant it equal space on the graden. 6) Put the fine sand on the grass and soil. Let the grass grow. 7) Everymonth spray with water mix with grass fertilizer. 8) Donn't forget to pickup those wild grass everymonth or when you see it. After 6-8moth, you will see your garden green like golf coarse. Added on January 9, 2012, 3:16 pm QUOTE(KiDkillER @ Jan 9 2012, 03:05 PM) Yeap I know Sg.Buloh got a lot of nursery but quite far from my place..but no choice..find 1 day to go there and buy.. so the weed killer only can get from nursery too? Any shop or place can get? This weed killer is poison and control item. Not all shop can sell. People use it to suidcide.Just take 1 weekend morning and go to sg.buloh nursery. It is a nice place to walk around and see so many plant and green. It soot your eye. This post has been edited by ozak: Jan 9 2012, 03:16 PM |

QUOTE(joyride997 @ Jan 13 2012, 10:00 AM) Hi all, It is normal. After a while it back to normal. You spray your fertilizer not even.My garden is Philippines grass. however, after fertilizing with urea (small white ball). It shows dark green patches all over the place. what could i do? What I do is, pour the white ball into the pressure pump (can get it at ACE) mix with water. Shake it till diluted and spray evenly on the garden. All the grass look same green. |

QUOTE(awiekupo @ Feb 8 2012, 11:17 AM) Guys, many thanks for the helpful thread. Why not just a fake carpet grass. I saw this before in some new house unit. Look great. However, after reading the entire post I cant find much project on using grass on balcony. I saw 1 of LYN-ers asked about this being done on her 1st floor of balcony but there's not much input was given on her enquiry. I plan to plant this on my balcony & my unit is on the first floor. Therefore appreciate if any sifoo could shed some light on the proper way to do this? I know its going to be lots of hassle, wearing slippers daily for a few weeks or (possibly months) in and out of the balcony just to water the grass but I think I could live with that at the moment. Alternatively, do landscape company do take up this kind of minor job/project? Since quite afraid coz my balcony aint that big. Sry again coz kinda noob here.. Any help is highly appreciated.. |
