saw the champs league highlights. torres' turn to fool cannavaro was...brilliant. sweat.gif
but will he be fit for the match against utd? if he's not starting..then i think utd defenders are going to get a much easier ride.
inter had some clear cut chances against them.just didn't take any.so their defence isn't unbreakable to say the least.
hope to see all out attacking football tomorrow..prolong the race (if we can call it that) a little longer aye? flex.gif

The uncertainty over the future of Rafael Benitez shows no sign of being resolved in the immediate future with the Liverpool manager revealing he is still waiting to see proof of long-term stability before signing his new contract.

The Spanish coach has been in talks with owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks for months over a new deal with his present contract due to expire in 15 months.

The imminent departure of chief executive Rick Parry was thought to have strengthened Benitez's hand in negotiations, giving him the chance to take greater control of transfers. But Benitez still wants to oversee youth academy matters and be shown proof there is now unity in the boardroom.

"I must decide on my future in the next two weeks and I want a medium or long-term project,'' he told The Sun. "I don't want to be working from day to day always hanging on the latest result. I will work where I feel I can develop a project.''

On one hand the club's Champions League victory over Real Madrid has further enhanced Benitez reputation on Merseyside, but it will also not have gone unnoticed at the Bernabeu with Juande Ramos likely to be replaced in the summer.

And while Benitez was quick to underline he was committed to Liverpool, he has also re-stated his admiration for Real.

But Benitez would never enjoy such overall control at a club in La Liga, nor would he be allowed to embark on such a long-term rebuilding project which is his vision at Liverpool.

Ahead of Saturday's crunch Premier League showdown with Manchester United, it could be said that Benitez is looking to create an all-encompassing dynasty very much like Sir Alex Ferguson has at Old Trafford.

He added: "People who claim that I'm going to take over at Real Madrid are doing the wrong thing in spreading that idea. I have a contract with Liverpool, I owe Liverpool - I'm only thinking of them.

"Real Madrid are a great club but I'm at another wonderful club - one which motivates me.

"What I want is hard to find in Spain. Long-term projects do not exist, not like they do in England.''

YEah..I agreed with you on that. I think that's what maradonna see in him.
Yep exactly. Passion is the main driving force in South American football and thats the reason why these players will heed to the national team call without giving it a 2nd thought. Their level of passion and patriotism are rare in Europe hence why the English based fans and pundits get amused watching Masc going ape-shit for merely making an assist. Marodonna when asked for his starting lineup, casually says its "Masc plus 10 others". Its as if he's building a team around Masc lol. No its not because of his abilities but for his passion that will now provide the multi talented yet underachieving team, a more fiery and relentless combative spirit - like he does for Liverpool. He gives everything whenever he enters the pitch; to both club or country. It hardly surprising that Masc was made Captain over Zenetti who is definitely the more experienced and talented individual. But as the Inter match proved, even superior experience and talent were no match against the fiery younger compatriot. When Masc scored his first 2 goals for his country, he celebrated the goals as if it was the World Cup final when it was merely a friendly. The same kind of euphoria was seen when he scored his first for Liverpool and then for assists! No cart wheel or samba dance celebration, just pure ecstasy for having contributed to his team - no matter how insignificant it may be. He is, imo, a rather flawed player as he's neither athletically built that imposes real physical presence or the most talented player available for his position. But abilities mean nothing if you lack courage to even use them, as we have witnessed how both our captain and vise captain uncharacteristically went missing in the 3-0 lost to the manc last season. Imo, it was the team that let Masc down that afternoon. Masc shouldnt have even been the one actively looking out after his teammates and seeking justice for them.

hey guys issit just me? or that soccernet is now a MAnure sniffing bunch? coz look at this
link
they never got news about our gaffer when we r about to pay real....well not a day before and now they do this to us?! like wanna get our players to feel insecure or sth?

and look closer at the source of that report....man...makes me feel disgusted....and nauseated...

i really hate mainstream media...never take neutral stand and just side with the one most popular...well so whu gives a hoot about rooney's hatred for livpool? he's some good for nth piece of crap that couldn't score...not for club....even worse for country....and i think vidic has a better goal/shot ration compared to rooney....and he still thinks that he got the bragging rights.....pfftt....

well it all boils down to the match innit?? all these talk would mean nth if we cant kick their buttocks....c'mon the Reds!! (yea some team just stole our right to that name and use it as theirs)....let's school them...Merseyside style! bruce.gif
*
Yeah, the media have certain dislike to us. I think the general media manc-loving is due to era of the manc's domination, so its normal that the media are rather biased towards them. Rooney is a thug on the pitch, practically bullying the oppositions both vocally and physically. He can claim his Everton root, but after his badge kissing routine this season, he's probably the most hated Scouser in the Merseyside. But its mostly the ex-player turned journo or pundits, thinking that having been once a Red, gives them total impunity to condemn and undermining our manager, are actually the one thats upsets me the most. I think most of these pundits like Lawro, McMohon, Hansen and etc actually do hate Rafa because:

A) He's not English
B) Has audacity to go against anything or anyone that stands in the way of rebuilding the club, even attacking the ex-players turned pundits
C) Actually succeeding B
D.) And idolized by the majority of the fans.

Perhaps some are envious that a non-english manager was able to cement himself firmly into England most successful club that has a long tradition of having only their own to managing and administering the club, then proceeded in in doing things his way by steering the club away from its rather traditional way that includes breaking certain Liverpool way traditions and along the way, removing several long serving club employees who were in his way, then openly criticize and challenging his peers when confronted, impossible to manipulate yet has the ability to influence the fans. Maybe they're merely sellouts whom were never even loyal to the club and now writes whatever they;re told to. Whatever it is, Skysports or ESPN are hardly the place to find decent truthful Liverpool related news, found most stuff on there especially when it comes to Rafa, are damaging piece that dileberated altering quotes to serve their spiteful agendas.

I see no love lost between the set of fans smile.gif

And with Rooney ranting away about how he 'hates' liverpool, everyones really riled up for this game, and its been one of the most anticipated games of the season.

No one thought at the start of the season that Liverpool would do so well for an elongated period, and arent doing too badly in recent times, with the exception of the Boro match of course.

Having said that, its better to take that angst and harness it to supporting our own teams, and whatever the result on the pitch, and whatever incident that takes place on the pitch, its better to accept it, for both set of fans of course.

Why do i bring this up? Traditionally both threads are bombarded incredibly after the game, and some might call it a little bit of banter, but one side never accepts the other side too well. Most of the Senior forumers from the MU thread know not to post anything to sensitive here, but i dont deny the newbies come in to troll (In the event of a United victory of course).

On the other hand, should liverpool win, I hope the forumers from the Utd thread wud have the decency to not be so sensitive to whatever is mentioned here and i have to say that its a piece of advice that even I have to strive to adhere to! Hahaha.

Anyhoo, i hope its a good match to watch, and the 'banter' after the game wud be reduced to a minimal, eliminating it entirely wud be not possible of course! haha.

I apologise in advance for all that may come your way in face of a defeat, and i extend my respect to you in face of a victory on your side.

Haha its great that you able to take the stuff written here with a tongue in cheek. smile.gif

IMO the match up between our clubs, regardless of league standing, had always been intense and highly anticipated. My RL younger bro, is a manc fanatic so each result as you can imagine can be either humiliating or highly satisfying. Its been humiliating for awhile but reckon it has been, relatively, a lot less lately. Since Rafa taken over, ith the exception of last season's heavy defeat, the results were very close and there were time where we were even clearly the better side but you lot, in your most typical fashion, were able to got away with rather jammy results. We're still playing catch up tho, no way near the depth of quality you have but least the team is on the rise rather than self-destructing. Only matter of time now. smile.gif

Fernando Torres To Pepe: Real Madrid Have Nine European Cups, You Have None

Liverpool hot-shot Fernando Torres got an overdose of vengeance this week after helping his side cruise past his bitter enemies, Real Madrid, in the Champions League last Tuesday.

El Nino, who had never tasted victory over Los Blancos during his time at Atletico Madrid, played a huge role in the second-leg clash at Anfield to guide his side to a thumping 4-0 win. But not only that, he also had a sweet taste of revenge against both Pepe and Vicente Boluda.

The Portuguese defender had boomed prior to the game that he knew exactly what to do to stop Torres. But it was the Reds striker who outfoxed the Whites centre-back to score the game’s opening goal.

The two continued to tussle throughout the encounter and at one point, according to Marca, Pepe was caught mouthing off to Torres during a face-to-face skirmish, “We have nine European cups,” to which the Spaniard replied, “Yes, but you have zero.”
rclxms.gif
Torres also put one over Madrid president Vicente Boluda, who had infamously predicted that his side would walk all over Liverpool at Anfield.

After scoring the first goal and celebrating with his team-mates, the 24-year-old striker, who had failed to make an impact at the Santiago Bernabeu in the first leg, marched over to Anfield’s theatre box and gestured to Boluda to keep quiet.

Torres had previously only ever scored one goal against Real Madrid.

Come on Liverpool. Do your magic again. If you can beat 9 time European Champion, you can do it too to MU.

If Rooney hates Liverpool, others 1000 times hates MU

Like abogee I do think that there will be some 'banter' after the game and expectedly so. I think it adds spice to the game which is why I've never personally used the "report" button. We are at the disadvantage though because win or lose, the mancs will lay claim to the fact that they are still someways in front.

As for the manc loving media, I'd have to agree with hfi. The only guy we can count on is Daryl Goh from the Star, whom I went to Anfield with. I've not seen him predict a loss of us so far in the EPL pullout smile.gif

lol....well we never seen them coming over and ask us to reduce the banter...NEVER! coz i think they r scared, pissing n sh|tting their pansy lil fruity cake pants....after seeing us demolishing real, a club they wanted to emulate so badly, the club where most of their players wanted to end up in ultimately....so yea...our victory is sth like some manure spread across their pride...some kids are scared.....and it shows!!! thumbup.gif rclxms.gif rclxm9.gif

never hav i seen, as far as i can remember...a manc fan coming here to ease the 'banter'....like often they would do so....after some senseless postgame taunting....but never pregame...fcukin scared n pissing in their pants thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

I've never had anything against banter between rival fans. A quick definition:

QUOTE
ban⋅ter
–noun
1. an exchange of light, playful, teasing remarks; good-natured raillery.

As opposed to:

QUOTE
taunt
–verb (used with object)
1.  to reproach in a sarcastic, insulting, or jeering manner; mock.

Just because we're rivals doesn't mean we have to be nasty to each other. If we could only learn to be nice, things can be so much different between rival supporters.

Alonso out of Man United clash?

According to latest reports, Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso is set to miss the game against Manchester United at Old Trafford tomorrow.

Sources at the club claim Alonso suffered a knock against Real Madrid before being substituted in the second half.

The Spanish international won’t be able to make the bench either and Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva is set to take his place in the starting eleven.

Albert Riera is also set to return to the starting eleven after a midweek ban in the Champions League and will come in place of Ryan Babel in the first eleven.

Probable line-up: Reina; Arbeloa, Carragher, Skrtel, Aurelio; Lucas, Mascherano; Kuyt, Gerrard, Riera; Torres.

I tried to make this kind of conversations with my friends, who are, hmm, fans of Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Juve, and I failed. But I managed to do that with fans of RM, and Milan though. laugh.gif laugh.gif This kind of conversation is too lame for many people I think tongue.gif tongue.gif
