Glad you liked this lens. Although I think your experience of slower AF speed is most probably caused by the body instead of the lens. I experienced no such slow AF speed on the A700 (so it is now time for you to upgrade to A700 *kysham LARI...... RACUN! laugh.gif * ). But yes you are right, it is one fine, sharp lens.....  flex.gif

lehtung: Generally you'll want the curves to appear closer to the center and peak like a hill. If they are all on the left or right, that means it's either under or overexposed.

Also, if you see that the hills are not balanced (blue hill more to the left, red hill more to the right) that means your white balance might be off.

raist86: Try using AF-S; once it locks it should not refocus upon recomposing.

But wait! Recomposing is BAD! Use the outer AF points instead!

http://www.mhohner.de/recompose.php

It is a very different lens on the A900, I assure you that. And once you put it on, you'll know that it was really really meant for full-frame.

That IS spooky, SpOOkY...

I see dark lenanza is lost at sea too.

This is not the whole picture right? you just cropped and gave us the sky portion. But right now to me I'd say it has more to do with what you were trying to focus.

The picture on top you focused on something dark, so the camera's metering set the image to be exposed more (slower shutter.. bigger appearture value etc. etc.) hence the sky got blown out.

the picture below is exposed darker compared to the picture on top, so you must have been focusing on something bright. hence the overall darker tone of the picture.

to answer your question properly, we'd need to see the whole pic (you just need to resize it) and hopefully retain the EXIF in the pictures so we can see what did the camera decide to use.

yeah, recomposing is bad and hence i hardly recompose because i got few pics that OOF miserably because of that...
besides, i realized that A200 AF is only accurate+strong for the mid point, the rest are pretty weak and fail to AF sometimes (in some extreme cases) what is that hardware/software that causes that? cross focus points?

some cameras have 51 AF points oh...geng.

marauderz: yeah i cropped the pic rclxms.gif . erh, i was self-shooting for both of the pics:) same location same time...sad.gif weird..maybe my angle a bit upwards/downwards?

albert: CNY just over and its sp00ky adi! cry.gif cry.gif yeah i tried a 24-70 zeiss on A900...it is so wide...as wide as my 17-70 smile.gif...one question regarding A900, i understand that its cropped factor is 1X, can be change it to 1.5X or 2.0X using a full-frame lens?

marauderz: The exposure seems identical between both pictures. Which just means that the RAW could be recovered greatly... or that an eclipse happened when he shot the RAW hehe.

SpOOkY: Yes, more cross focus points or assist points (like the A900) would help.

However, you need to understand that line sensors are not weaker; they are just more optimized for one orientation of detail. For example, a horizontal sensor will catch vertical detail easily but not horizontal detail.

I like the diagonal corner sensors of the A100/A200/A300/A350 for this very reason, because it has a better chance of catching vertical and horizontal detail.

Yes, the A900 has an APS-C crop mode.

It will automatically activate APS-C mode when a Sony DT lens is attached and you cannot disable this (you cannot shoot FF on a Sony DT lens even if it has enough coverage.)

A Tamron or Sigma lens however will not be detected automatically. So you need to tell the A900 to activate it.

There is no 2x crop mode though, although I would find this incredibly useful, too!

I have posted shots from the Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 HSM on my blog. I won't link to it because for some weird reason, posts with links are indiscriminately (or discriminately) disappearing.

Quickly though, I would say:

The Sigma is darn sharp at 70mm at closest focus. At 200mm F2.8 at 1 meter close it's soft and disappointing (only because you compare it to the excellent 70mm.)

The Tamron is pretty darn sharp, too. But I tried it in Canon mount, mounted in front of my then A700. Also the issues that the Tamron has on Canon and Nikon, it using a cheap buzzing micro-motor (like on the 17-50mm) are not valid on the Sony and Pentax versions because both use screw-driven AF instead.

Likewise, the Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 is quieter and more pleasing sounding on a Sony than a Canon.

We can keep guessing until you show us the full pic, which hopefully will have the EXIF info. Or maybe because you can't show us the subject? hmm.gif

hmm.. can share the EXIF data ??
i think u didnt use long enuff exposure time... dats why no light trail..
diff place = diff brightness = diff reading = diff setting..
use small aperture.. use M-mode.. try many shutter speed...
u might need to shoot couple of time to get it right..
