Argh...we got different firmwares, cant really compare directly, isn't?
My guess is, I have an older firmware SN04, is that right?
When did you bought those drives, wKkaY?

I'm using ST31000340NS as well. Two of them (SN04) were affected by this firmware issue, another 2 are still working fine (SN05).

but sometimes my pc failed to boot due to disk boot failure.

guys I just did some test on my HDD, firmware SD1A 500GB barracuda using the SeaTools for window. i run the test because lately there is always "disk boot failure, pls insert system disk" on my PC.

so far, my HDD has FAILED:

1. SMART test
2. short drive self test

what do the test trying to tell me actually?
does it mean that I should dispose of my HDD?
is it mean that my HDD is dead already?

really need your attention, thanks!

if I RMA it, what are they going to do?

they haven't got the stable firmware yet, right??

or should I just buy a new Western Digital?

Guys.. i have two ST3500320AS, one konged after three weeks of usage...

both also using SD15 firmware.. I have one now in my PC used as storage, still working on SD15... currently running tests on it... so far passed SMART and short DST test.. doing LONG DST test now... Should i upgrade the firmware to SD1A? coz seagate checker said both my HDD is affected and requires an firmware upgrade. Having a dilemma here...

Having this HDD in my PC is really like a time bomb... anytime my data will be gone.. ><

BTW, I am going to RMA my konged one tomorrow. Will i get a brand new drive from them or a refurbished one? because if they refurbish mine.. i will still not have the confident to store all my data with it.. @.@

please advice... thanks.

Update: i have flashed to SD1A to my current working drive.

SO far did all tests on SeaTools, all passed. long short DST, long short generic, etc etc...

Also did a performance test.. with HD tune and HD tach(32mb). Both also shows good results.. average 88mbps.

hope it's not gonna fail me... Im ready for RMA anytime if this drive dies on me. smile.gif

if any of u have problems with undetectable drives with the affected models and have a lot of important/ P & C data for recovery... u can try this method.

I have no guarantee.. but i think it's worth trying before sending it for RMA. Good luck guys.
