hmm... dunno wor..

u got check ur power option setting??

dun let ur hard disk sleep..

usually, vista or XP, default setting will let hard disk sleep after 20 minute idle..

its not d symptom...the problematic firmware will just render ur hdd undetectable into normal start-up.
try donlod hdd-health n seatool for windows, good measure 2 see d health of any hdd
i personally use system mechanic

Here's one data point for you. I have 8x ST31000340NS (SN06 firmware) connected to an Adaptec 3805 (BIOS build 15753), and the drives drop out during heavy IO. And on more than one occasion already.

I'm waiting to put the array out of production before I do more isolation tests on it, because I still don't know whether it's a controller or disk issue.

Argh...we got different firmwares, cant really compare directly, isn't?
My guess is, I have an older firmware SN04, is that right?
When did you bought those drives, wKkaY?

updated to the firmware last month..... so far noticed that its functioning good.

before the update, copying/writing certain files was extremely slow..... like going to die like that.
