I am using the 1TB Seagate HDD bought mid March 2009, so far no problems after usage of two weeks. Also, it doesn't seem to make much noise when accessing the data in it as reported in this thread.

I did not flash the firmware. If this goes well till June / July 2009 I might get another HDD.

Good thing is that all my data is backup in another PC. Hence, if this fail I will not be worried about lost data.

I sincerely hope it doesn't though.

I just bought a new 7200.11 1TB. However I made sure the firmware was CC something (NOT SD15 or any SD..) and its the 3 platter, instead of the four platter ones which model number ends in 340AS....

I'm a die hard Seagate fan... lets hope I made a right choice!! smile.gif

Guys help! I'm using the 1 tera ST31000340AS version and the problem cropping out a week ago when i notice slight lag when i'm watching movies on it. This drive is not master and it just for data. I can boot up and it works fine for a few minutes then it became hard to access and sometimes fail. I've updated to SD1A and the problem is still the same. Any suggestion?

Very high chance of the HD dying soon. Most of the 340 series (4 platters) die when problem starts unless the problem is the one which the SD1A firmware fixes. If you buy Seagate get those ending with 33x.... those are 3 platter per HD ones and so far no problems (or negligible). The firmware for these are CCH something.... shits... I have one in my PC but I couldn't rem the details.

Seriously does the SD1A firmware works? Cuz when i experiencing BSY  i quickly flash it from SD15 to SD1A. But the problem still there. Its fine when i started and after 5 mins or so it became laggy and finnally can't even go in my folders. Its a slave drive fyi.
Another thing i read somewhere that SD2B version is out but i can't find it anywhere in the net. Does anyway have any idea regarding the SD2B firmware?

Generally the Seagate firmwares fixes specific problems with the HDD. Problem is there seems to be many different problems associated with the 340 HDDs and tts y the SD1A firmware will not work on ALL of the HDDs with problems. Maybe you can contact the forumer and see if he can help you to rma.
