Met up with AhPek Bikers and his friends. We rode from Royal Selangor Club (Bukit Kiara) -> Kiara Hills -> TTDI -> 1U -> Bukit Utama -> Sprint Highway -> Uptown -> TTDI -> Kiara Hills -> RSC (BK)

It was an exciting ride for me. The hills are tough. The downhill is fast. I managed to clock 48km down and I feel the bike is stable. I didn't know there are such shortcuts via bikes.

Definitely will go for more such rides...

It's a 24" rim folding bike. A bit hard to get 24 inch tyres though, even if they have not much choice. If you want bigger than the usual 20 inch tyres folding, might as well get the 26 inch ones. Just my 2 cent. smile.gif

I took my wife's Dahon Eco C7 to repair the handlebar as it was getting loose. Her's was a newer model ones compared to mine. As they were servicing it, I found out that the last 2 units of C7s wer sold out and there was no more production of it and the new ones are called Dr.Hon. The new replacement for it was similar except the body was extended to accomodate the Neos RD (the old C7 can't use Neos) and also the folding mechanism was big and ugly! shakehead.gif Also the crank looks cheaper and the shifters are made specially for Dahons (plasticky and looks cheap) and also similarly the brakes are also the same. I think they are trying to cut cost by using more cheaper components but it now cost more than before.

If you still see the old models, get the old models. Especially the Eco C7s and the Speed P8s.

Hi all, I want to have my 1st foldies which is capable to transform to a touring bike. My budget is RM2k below. I've done some research here. Conclusion are these choices: (1) Java Fit 16 speed. (2) Dahon Boardwalk D8 8speed (3) KHS F20 T 8speed.

I like the price and the spec of JAVA Fit. Dahon, folding design is absolutely brilliant! KHS F20, strong frame, high performance on hill. It's hard to make a choice! HELP~~~~~

Just my opinion but choice is totally up to you, off course. Since your budget runs to 2K, I will definitely go for Dahon Speed 8 which can still be available in some older shops. Near my place there's still another red unit. It was selling for OVER 2K before but it can be bought for 1.8K now. It has a microshift shifter with an 8 speed Neos RD and also Kinetix Pro double walled rims. Kinetix are made by Classic, a well known MTB hub maker. It is shodded with nice Schwalbe Big Apple tyres and there's a bicycle pump within it's seat post. The handlebar height can be adjusted, in one word the specs are good for this bike. Dahon's precision in bike frames is reknown already, no need to explain.

I have seen the Java Fit and the specs are quite impressive, especially the components. Components can be replaced and also eventually most components will need to be changed but body is a permanent feature. I would rather go for a better made body from Dahon as I don't know anything about the Java's body. KHS is also another famous bicycle maker and I have ridden the KHS before and it's quite nice actually but I still went for the Dahon later.

Go check out the Dahon Speed 8. icon_rolleyes.gif

hi guys, am looking for a foldie at the moment. For my wife's ride.. and of course, hehe.. sometime i will curi ride it as well.
At the moment, am looking the Eco C7, the Raleigh Ugo, XDS 8sp Disc and possibly the Kalaq Q3 . as my budget is around 1K or a little bit over it only.
Any recommendations guys?

Also, is it better to just go for the 8sp? or go with 7sp with my budget.
For my wife, I'm pretty sure, she would be riding it in taman area only, but for me, I ride quite a lot in my mtb, so.. 8sp would be a welcome of course.

Dahons are built strong which is important for folding bicycles especially at the fold. Many cheaper bikes will get loose here and the whole bike is ruined. That is why Dahons are well known for folding bikes. Other brands may have the same geometry and ride quality and shodded with better components, they will usually perform much better than the more expensive Dahons but Dahons folding mechanisms are guaranteed!

For 1K budget you can only get a 7speed Dahon. An 8 speed Boardwalk cost about 1.3K. The Dr.Hon D7 (replacement for Eco C7) is about 1K and the Dahon Boardwalk 7 is 1.2K. Problem is, an 8 speed is off course better, giving you more gearing for uphill rides but for a Dahon, it is over your budget. You can modify it to 8 speed later (as I did but it's not cheap either) but you need to change the shifter, freewheel cogs and the RD as well. This makes it more expensive than buying an 8 speed in the first place.

XDS has a model with 16 speed for only 1.3K but at the expense of an inferior frame and also a lousy looking handlebar! Just add another 200 bucks for a Dr.Hon 8 speed Boardwalk. I have ridden it before and it's light and easy to ride.

so, youre saying that the C7 is upgradeable to 8 sp as well?
true about the joints. Truth is, I've ridden the C7 once before. I found it to be quite solid and all but lacking in the gears. Reason why i'm considering the xds is that they offer better gears, and slick n slimmer tyres. Wondering if that would help the speed a lot?
Are all the frame on these foldies made outta steel? not alloy?
