Any group from cheras area? I stay near cheras perdana area, but seldom see others around here...

I just started and I stay in CP1. Seems the cycling community here are mainly the myanmarese. laugh.gif The bike shop in Bdr. Mahkota Cheras seems to have vanished. Do you know anything about it and where do you get your bike parts near your place?

Went and did my first spin today at DPC. Been quite awhile since I last cycle so goyang goyang.

Bike wise was nice but some times when changing gear, it will have the klak klak sound like cannot enter into that gear. The seller did tell me it is normal when it is brand new. After few rides and 1 month later, I have to bring back for service and tuning.
*
I noticed that you have a MTB gear shifter and a roadie rear derailleur. Did you have any shifting problems or they are actually compatible? hmm.gif

Anyone here a customer of Tat Seng Bicycles in Taman Anggerik? Wah! I was asking around fro cranks and as I was only using it for my foldie, I just check if there are second hand ones , you knowlah, most MTBers who buys complete bikes changed theirs and trade in later on. He just walked away! No community sense at all. Even posher shops like KSH or USJ cycles are not like that.

Anyone who has spare cranks for sale? biggrin.gif

This shop Tat Seng Bicycles. Lady boss doesn't know anything. the Boss very lansi. Rather drive all the way to SS2 (KSH Bikes) to source something. I am joining a ride in Mempaga-Kuala Gandah early next month. I think should be interesting.

Guys, any recommendation for folding bike below rm500?
*
You can try GW Cycle Boutique in Kota Kemuning. They import old bicycles by the containers and refurbish them. They do have some nice ones but the boss also knows the quality and demand. laugh.gif You can find them in Mudah.my

http://www.mudah.my/20+Imported+New+GTA+Al...ke-19102510.htm

Then again, if you are serious, these bikes will not satisfy you later when you join rides. It will become a waste of money as no one wants it want you want to resell it again. The cheapest Dahons I can find is RM1080 for the Eco C7 and RM1180 for the Boardwalk. I also checked out XDS, Chevrolet and a few local brands. Really not worth it! Imagine paying RM850 for a XDS 260 and another RM300 will get you a really good Dahon. Furthermore those Taman bicycle shops, you cannot test ride. KHS is also nice thumbup.gif

After using this for a few rides, I've noticed there is a disadvantage about this lever.

The coating on it is pretty smooth. Can be quite slippery and fingers may not grip properly when hands are sweaty

You can buy a pair of gloves!

cuz i have a feeling i'd go back to full-sized mtb again when i have the time n the folding bike will be left gathering dust
*
Folding just got off a few years ago and it is catching up fast. Usually those elder ones are the ones who change from MTBs to foldies. There are some younger ones as well. Main reason is LRTs and Komuters now allows foldies to be carried into the train and this has opened up lots of trips to Ipoh, Taiping, Seremban etc. for some riding and holidaying without a need for car. Not to mention a lot of makan makan trips. tongue.gif

Hi guys, I need some opinions from you guys as I'm new to this, I'm currently looking for a cheap used folding bicycle (I can only afford that since I'm a student sweat.gif ) and have a limited budget of say 200-300 like that, I want one of these cause I'm living in hostel on 4th floor so I need it foldable, it's also for going to class and nearby shops. Any recommendations for a good bike for me? sad.gif I saw in mudah got ppl sell used set from Japan, they fit my budget but not sure if those are reliable/good quality.. Advice ppl icon_question.gif
*
There are many proprietors in Mudah.my that are bringing in those confiscated bikes (those that are left in parking spaces in Japan and unclaimed and later auctioned off!) by the containers. They are usually sold off at less than RM300 and some are also in quite good condition. Those better ones are sold at higher price, off course. Sometimes they cannibalised to make 3 malfunctioned bikes into one usable one.

I even saw a Dahon Boardwalk once selling for RM400 but it was located in Johore! sad.gif

To all the folding bikes sifu out there, i am following this forum for quite some time, really need ur advice on what bikes to go for... Went to a bikes shop at ss14, and very keen to get the tern link D8, price is rm1950-10%,  but saw dahon new speed p8 is very interesting, rm2099-10%, both of the price quite similar, so I'm hoping all the sifu out there can give me some advice on which bike to go for, tern link D8 or Dahon speed p8? Price below 2k, if you all got better option than these 2, please share... Thanks in advance... Anyway, the price I mention above izzit ok? Or I can get cheaer price somewhere else? anyway, i'm not planing to get from ss14 shop, ppl who attended me not pro at all and also not friendly. Any shop can recommend? Thank you thank you...
*
Both the bikes are priced at the same category but Dahon's price has gone down quite a bit since a few years. They used to cost more, just check the prices in Singapore which is priced much higher than ours. Both are quality bikes but the Tern Link D8 is the least expensive model from Tern while Dahons have even cheaper models. I can't really give a real opinion as I am more inclined to the Dahons as my wife and daughter, in addition to myself ride Dahons.

The speed P8 is almost complete, meaning the hubs are cassette type (you can upgrade to 9 speed later by just buying a cassette, RD and shifter), the handle post can be adjusted, double walled Kinetix rims and the best part is the hand pump encased in the seat post! thumbup.gif It is shodded with a good tyre, in short, it is complete.

Another consideration is, I also have an Eco C7 which is half the price of the Speed 8. After upgrading to 8 speed cassette, change to Deore RD and shifters, it also rides just as well. Need to change the saddle though, the Eco C7 has lousy saddle.

Most importantly, I think is to get up on the bikes and feel the ride position. If the shop allows you to cycle around, even much better but I doubt they will allow though. Buy the one that you feel more comfortable riding in. I too have been scouting in the forums for bargains and narrowed down to two shops in Dengkil which still sells the cheapest. Those air-conditioned bikes shops in PJ/D'sara area are expensive. Check out the shop in Dengkil. icon_rolleyes.gif

P/S. Check this site for online bike shop in Korea. Not to buy your bikes here but the availability of Dahon parts compared to Terns. Almost any part can be found for Dahons! thumbup.gif

Hi etigge, thank you so much for the valuable inputs, now i know which one to go for... hehe... it time to go shopping... anyway, do you have any shop that carry dahon brand in KL/SEL area to introduce? Checked with Sin Guan Eng dengkil, unfortunately they dont carry dahon brand.
*
I saw Dahons in Tat Seng Cycles in Taman Anggerik, they also have a branch in Kota Kemuning. GW Cycles also have them but GW cycles are quite expensive. I also saw 2 units in Joo Ngan's Son in D'sara Uptown. I think you need to bargain with him, HARD!

where do you guys find replacement hubs for 20" wheels... it's for a dahon dash p18....

or the entire wheel?

what will the damage be like?
*
Dahon don't sell the hubs or the rims by itself. It has been argued by a lot of Dahonese in forums but they are still not selling it separate. The whole wheelsets are available though. Here you can check it here. I think the cheaper ones costing USD69.00 are usable but I think the USD99.00 is more suitable or go for the best Kinetix Pro for USD199. They ship worldwide so it's still cheaper to buy online.

http://www.bicyclehero.com/us/bicycle-part...anufacturer=129

Or you can visit Mr.Lee of GW Cycles in Kota Kemuning. He stocks them but really expensive. The cheapest set is RM600, some rims from China, I think. He also stock a few sets of Kinetix Pro but he is selling it for RM1600.00 shocking.gif

Hi Bros. I'm quite new to folding bikes. Just want to ask whether anyone heard of thisbrand Bolujie before ? Is this a good bike ? Thanks
*
At first glance, they look nice but scrutinize carefully, the front forks were like cut off and another piece with mounting for disc brake were welded on. That looks ugly! They added nice components though which I suspect to steer your eyes away from the frame. For folding bikes, the paramount criteria is the folding joint! It must be strong and secure when unfolded. I usually look at the folding steering post and handle bar grips. Off course, branded ones are good and the cheaper ones, handlebars cannot be changed.

There are many new brands cropping out. Cronus, the above mentioned Bolujie, Louis Garneau and also Langtu. Java and Doppelgangers are coming up quite fast but all these bikes are obscure in support. icon_rolleyes.gif

Obscure in support in what sense? Weaker bicycle frame or lack of spare parts?
*
Like if they have spares for the steering post or the screws and nuts and bolts for each part of the bikes. Components like rear derailleurs, cranks, bottom bracket, saddles and brakes are quite standard, even mountain bikes part can be used but parts like the fittings for the folding parts and fork are quite hard to source. Even Dahons are quite hard to find locally but at least some online bike shops stocks them because of their popularity.

I think the Dahon Boardwalk D8 is the limited anniversary version. It has 8 speed and also double walled rims. They also come in a special green colour or white off course.

If you visit them and are serious, there's still some discount.

I am thinking of selling off my Eco 7 hmm.gif Anyone interested?

Dahon Speed P8

Dahon Eco C7

I was browsing around a local bike shop near my place and I came across this shop which stock Louis Garnaeu, Doppelganger, Oscar and also Dahons. I got another Dahon Eco C7 for my family (I decided to keep using foldies now). Those looking for Eco C7, there are still 2 units left ( black and red, white taken by me) rclxms.gif Also there's another Speed P8 there. He's willing to change to 8 speed for me and he is charging RM80 for shifters, RM50 for 8 speed freehub and another RM75 for Acera RD. So it should be called Eco C8 now! laugh.gif

The shop is located on the road to Carrefour Taman Tun Hussein Onn, from the Saga Highway just before the toll, turn right and on the left. So, you need to do a U-turn. Kimbell Jaya, only one shop there. Also easy to negotiate, nice guy. William, I think.

informative thread smile.gif etigge are you still planning to sell your C7? biggrin.gif

Seems like it is cheaper to buy Dahon in Malaysia compare to Singapore smile.gif
*
No, sorry. Was planning to upgrade to Speed P8 but I have bought another Eco C7 as my daughter is also riding. But you can still get it at 1K for a new unit. There's another two units left near my place.

Another different matter. I am planning to do a weekly ride, meaning we ride every Sunday in Putrajaya. Will start from Alamanda and ride along the lakeside paved track. A complete loop is about 25 km. Those interested can join me for the ride. I will be doing it every Sunday unless there's some big rides elsewhere. Please feel free to contact me if you want to join in. The ride wil start at 7.00am and will usually end before 9.00am. We can do longer if there is a majority who wants to. we can continue until the Botany Park. icon_rolleyes.gif

finally got a boardwalk d7 for rm1.2k! but already scratched n chipped off some pain due to incorrect folding  doh.gif

btw what is the cheapest option to lower the gears overall? having a hard time going up penang air itam dam with the bike!
*
There's a few option if you want to cycle up Air Itam dam. Easiest is to change the front crank to a roadie bike's crank with 53/39 T and add in a front derailleur and also shifter. The smaller 39T will make the pedalling easier but you also cannot forego the 53T as you will need it too on flat roads. Another is to change to 9 speed which needs your hub to be changed to accomodate the 9 speed 11/34 or 11/36 tooth cassette. This also needs the shifter to be changed and also the rear derailleur. I think modifications to the crank will suffice but off course it would be nice to do both front and rear.

I too plan to ride up Fraser's Hill one day and still trying to train myself up. I modified all the Dahons to 8 speed ( except the Speed P8 which already comes with an 8 speed gearing)with 34T (lowest gear) and plan to look for a used roadie crank and the front derailleur to add later.

Another cheaper option is to train yourself biggrin.gif You have to first pedal at your comfortable level then as you improve try then to pedal at a higher gear (harder) and finally you can use the highest gear at flat roads comfortably. Then increase your cadence ( your rpm on pedalling ) and up to a certain comfortable level. The cadence must be maintain at all gears at the same pedalling force. Once you acheive this, I think you should be able to cycle up the dam at the lowest 28 tooth gear.

Just starting to cycle up the dam at this instance is not possible unless you push and ride, push and ride, where push is more than riding and going down, you need to get used to the bike itself as first time foldie users will find the steering twitchy! thumbup.gif Happy riding!

Would like to check with you guys... the tyres used by foldable bike is easy to get punctured compare to MTB...

Thus, if want to get a tyres able to sustain non flat road like MTB, is it Schwalbe Big Apple tyre is the tyre we can change for folding bike like Dahon Eco C7? smile.gif
*
Big Apple is a good tyre. The bigger size also acts as a suspension but they cost a bomb here in Malaysia. If I am not mistaken, they sell for RM120 a piece! ohmy.gif I think cheaper tyres of the same size like Kenda should be OK. As for punctures, I think all tyres should be the same. Carry spare inner tubes for rides.

also remember to put a thick paper under the seatpost if not your bag will have hole in it.
*
Easier to take the whole seatpost out! That's what I do when I have to fit in 3 bikes into a car with 3 passengers. Unlike the Dahon Speed P8 which already has a fast release for the wheel sets, the Eco 7s don't have. I modified the hub shaft into those that can fit fast release skewers. It cost only RM60 for both wheels with the skewers included. Now it is even easier to fit in more bikes with the wheelsets taken out. rclxms.gif
