means like 5800 can take good pic in a short distance but not so good for long distance?
*
theoritically, yes.
not short distance but moderate
for long distance, yes, it's weaker than those with bigger focal length number

Unfortunately no screens are scratch resistant unless the surface hardness is through the roof. The pressure sensitive screen used on Nokia 5800 is a soft membrane and as such is not scratch resistant. Even screen protectors aren't scratch resistant but they provide their protection by sacrificing themself which is good. Martin Fields also aren't scratch resistant. They have coatings that will prevent scratches but not avoid it. It will never will since these are soft materials.

The key to scratch resistance is the hardness of material. The harder and denser it is like sapphire and diamonds, the better it will be. Even glass can be scratched and it is impossible to use glass without increasing the price of the product.

No, it means that your range is shorter and wider in view. If you want to take a far away object, you will have to move to it. There's no zoom here anyway. Also most f numbers cannot be compared among handphones. f numbers are based on 35mm format. You can't compare the f numbers unless you know the size of the lenses and sensors you're comparing with. A smaller sensor requires smaller lenses and will result in smaller f numbers (minimum). Some handphones have larger sensors like N95 and the f is slightly larger. It doesn't mean it has more range and no wide angles.

f number is the range from focusing lens to sensor.

Actually the camera like any other cameraphone is good when taking macro and near objects. However taking anything further away will not have enough detail. Thats because of the size of the lense and the sensor. The resolving power and 'resolution' isn't game enough for this. And by 'resolution' I don't mean megapixels.

It will definitely be blurred and result in even lesser detail. Reason is because it is digital zoom. Meaning to say, it will have to crop the photos and then upscale it back to native resolution. How this is done? Lets consider a large picture of a paddy field where there is a tiny farmer in the field. If you want to zoom to the farmer. What is done is the camera will crop the rest of the paddy field and just 'focus' onto the farmer. Now because the farmer is small, how can fill a 3.2MP camera output? Upscale lor. But how to upscale? We stretch it to fill up the entire frame. But the farmer will look blur because there no more additional information to create.

That is digital zoom. Unfortunately the Nokia 5800 don't have optical zoom like the N93. I will not recommend using the digital zoom at all. The sensor is small enough, noise is so bad. If you zoom somemore, quality degradation is even worse. Better leave it at zero.

It is scratch resistant like Martin Fields because they have coatings but I try hard enough it will be scratches. But the material is gummy so it will have a mark and if you leave it longer enough it will eventually 'heal'. I had BestSkinEver on my iPOD Touch and at one time scratched it. It didn't tear it apart but had a mark on it. But in due time, it kinda improved. thumbup.gif

simple to say
just like editing picture on pc, enlarging the picture and crop out the part u wan, the bigger the picture scaled up, the more blurry the picture is
that's wat happen on phone as well

Yes exactly. Since there are no extra information to manipulate, the computer will just duplicate every pixel. Because there are no extra information and things are duplicate, details are lost and you get blurring. Blurring happens because the computer attempts to smoothen the pixels otherwise all you see are pixelated images.

It happens to compact cameras as well. Things like Smart Zoom, Precision Zooms are all fakes. Just turn them off and rely on the 3x or whatever maximum optical zooming. Go near if you have to and don't be lazy. tongue.gif

Anyway since we are in this topic, the worst offender is probably Sony Ericsson K700. Remember that the native resolution is only 0.3MP. But it has an extended mode to boost things up to 1MP. Thats the exact same thing. Upscale the 0.3MP image. And most handphone sellers sold the phone as 1.3MP camera phone. A lot of people got caught.

Dear All,

I still have not managed to get my screen protector from Atlantis since last friday (2 Jan) until now. Boss say no stock yet. I am getting nervous about using my 5800 day-in day-out with the screen naked with no protection!

Does anyone at all know where to get a screen protector specifically made/designed for the 5800 in KL/PJ?

Anyone using this now? Is it credible? The price is rather steep for the amount of material used. Its rather cool without having to bother about the bulkyness of usual silicone cases. But whats up with the spray thing? Wont the liquid (whatever it is) get into our phones?

Not only that, it is wet application. And with those large gaps of Nokia 5800 casing. Water might sip in too. And its super difficult to apply and the cutting may not be accurate.

Have you check out my postings several pages behind? There's a seller from Ebay selling HD Soft Silicone case. It wraps the entire phone without spoiling the profile/lines and still maintain sensors functionality. This is not like those rubbery silicone we have come to know. It is something like plastic but softer.

Maybe you can go to the seller at Giant Kelana Jaya. He gave me the SP when I bought the phone.
