Although Bentong guy and I share an uncanny resemblance to each other, price discrimination is here to stay.

the word 'mystery' got mentioned a lot in this thread, even more than in enid blyton books i used to read when i was a child

------------

geng,,,,im thinking of the below request for my next shirt-----

for the collar:
2" back collar height;
3 1/4" collar point length; medium spread, 1/2" tie space

for cuffs:
3" wide w/ 2-button

has anyone tried this extra tall & wide collar / cuffs shirt before? what do you think?

Well, I took a closer look at MBT2's shirt for me (the one with the unfused collar) and guess what? It is fused. I specifically asked for it not to be fused, but it is. There is delamination, which gives the shirt the imperfections which suggest no fusing. I am truly disappointed. I also have lots of other issues with the shirt, too many to list here, but they are stylistic in nature and not related to technical problems.

I discovered today that the cost of labour to make a shirt the proper way in KL is RM70. For this price you get high-density sewing, French seams, removable collar stays and machine steam fusing (100X better than iron fusing, which simply does not work, contrary to what tailors who practise it may insist. Really, it never, ever works. I now own 4 iron-fused shirts and they ALL delaminate by the first wash.)

I picked up my pair of linen pants on Fri evening. I wore it for most of yesterday. I wonder why almost nobody wears linen in Malaysia. It is such an incredible fabric. I love those trousers. So breezy, so cool, so chic. So, eh, British India.

But it is an inch too wide in the thighs for my liking and the tailor forgot to turn up the hem to make cuffs, so I returned them to him just now for alterations.

I soooo look forward to being able to wear them again. Everyone needs a white linen shirt and khaki linen trousers.

Added on April 25, 2010, 11:38 pmNot to mention a half-lined bespoke linen jacket with patch pockets.

sorry to hear your bad experince,,,,i think the only way is to buy a non-fused lining ourselves and asked tailor to use it for collar / cuffs

//are highdensity sewing & collar stays necessary?

id recommend to survey pertama complex & campbell complex,,,there are many shops handmade shoes there-----but their outsoles choice are pretty limited so you need to buy shoe outsole elsewhere (e.g. try to source vibram / branded soles fr premium cobblers @ wellknown shopping malls)----

for linenlover, id recommend to survey at jakel,,,,they have endless linen selection----but make sure to bargain a lot,,,their final price are determined by salesperson not the shop

Here is the underside of my non-fused collar.

Note the marks along the edge stitching. Is this common?

I wrote to Acorn, the world's best maker of shirting cloth.

Dear kotmj

We have two collections; Acorn Fabrics which is 36"/90cm wide Fabric and Classic Shirtings which is 60"/150cm wide fabric. I have attached the new price lists for both Acorn and Classic to this e-mail to give you an idea. The price list is split into three: 'A' price is for 60mts and above, 'B' price is for 30mts to 60mts and 'C' price is for cut-lengths. These prices are per metre and don't Include shipping costs or VAT. The fabrics are in stock or currently being produced and there is no minimum order quantity. So you can order whatever you need.

Shipping prices & options to Malaysia:

Small packet mail (7-10 days, not signed for)

1 shirt lengths = £8
2 shirt lengths = £12
3 shirt lengths = £18
4 shirt lengths = £24
5 shirt lengths = £30

International Recorded mail (7-10 days, signed for)

1 shirt lengths = £12
2 shirt lengths = £16
3 shirt lengths = £22
4 shirt lengths = £28
5 shirt lengths = £34

Any shipment over five lengths would have to go by UPS Express. If you also need these prices please let me know.

Kind Regards
