It is so tough to find really light blue shirting cotton. The stuff I bought at Binwani is too blue; at AL he has something lighter but still too blue. I found the right shade today. At a very, very low price. Pure cotton too, and looks great.

I also found very heavy trousering linen. I bought a trouser length, but I wouldn't mind having a jacket made in it.

I also bought 2 lengths of shirting linen, one white (again) and one in a stripe design called "Mexico".

And copious quantities of MOPs and a few dark snail shell buttons.

Should I use white MOP or dark snail shell for this?

Added on April 11, 2010, 2:57 pmThe shirts will all be made up by Introverted Small Town Tailor (ISTT) for RM50 each. He did a superlative job with my white linen shirt and he will have the honour of repeating his performance.

I've been very pleased with the linens I've bought. I've soaked them all and ironed them. For the first time in my life, I wore linen on Saturday. It was a revelation. I can feel every little breeze on my skin! The cloth lets air through like nothing else. It also deals very well with perspiration. Unlike some cottons, linen doesn't cling to the body. It is incredible. Read more.

Clockwise from top:

In the top is a light shirting linen in a "Mexico" design. 100% linen, feels very soft and nice, 60", RM39.90/m (-10%) at the big grey Kamdar further down Jln TAR.

To the right is a very heavy white 100% linen. I had this made into a shirt, and the tailor complained it was thick and coarse. But it is now my favourite casual shirt because it is incomparably cool. 60", RM49.90/m (-10%) at the same Kamdar. Totally opaque, unlike lighter cloths.

Bottom is a closely woven, opaque piece of heavy jacketing/trousering linen. Very nice quality. It is a natural linen colour, a very rustic beige brown. Because it is opaque, no lining is necessary. 100% linen, 60", RM49.90/m (-10%) at Kamdar. Make it up with cuffs, side adjusters, extended waistband and patch pockets.

Left is a light blue shirting cotton. It is difficult to find icy blue like this. 100% cotton, opaque, probably Super 100, single ply. 45". RM10.90/m (-10%) at Kamdar.

I'm also looking for a shirtmaker who owns his own collar fusing machine in KL who charges no more than RM60 to make a shirt with my own cloth.

i believed a hand pressed fused shirt done by a skilled tailor is equivalent to $$ fusing machine used in the garment factory

I have a dress pants which is a regular fit and would like to make it a slim fit, the price for the pants is pretty expensive therefore i would not want to go to an alteration shop. Does anyone know how much would it cost?

Thanks biggrin.gif

Why do you say that? I had 2 tailors make me iron fused shirts and they all delaminated by the first wash. OTOH, machine fused stuff did not delaminate one single bit. The difference is night and day.
