aww great, went to see my ready shirt from de-catano.. i wanted my monogram to be "D.T.", somehow it ended up with "D.T.D" sweat.gif

hmmm sleeve length was short.. collar was too tight.. left sleeve was too small that it was not able to cover my watch.. noticeable roll on the back behind my collar..

he said he'll get them fixed, so i'll wait and see..

other than that, fit was great..

I just don't see how they can change any of those after the fact. They would have to make a new shirt.

he told me there's nothing he can do about the monogram, i don't know how the hack he could get that wrong, but apparently he said he will fix the others..

neck probably needed to be larger by .5, sleeve length was significantly too short, probably needed to lengthen about 3/4 inch..

well if they did a entirely new shirt for me that would be good..

You didn't ask him HOW he's going to do it?

When I ask someone to do something non-routine, I want to know how he will proceed. How will he do it? I need to have a solid conversation with him to make sure he is in a position to deliver what I need him to. The both of us need to sculpt a clear bilateral picture of how the deliverable will look like and the means to do so.

Maybe he can. But I have no basis of knowing without that rigorous conversation.

nope, as i mentioned im not really knowledgeable in the technical and structural side when it comes to clothes.. i know the specifications, i know how i want it to look, i know how i want it to feel.. so even if he explains to me, i would not get it..

so for me he said he's going to deliver the results, so i'd wait.. if he does not fulfill what he promised, then i'd have to complain and demand a new shirt to be made..

I had a very successful interview this morning, so I thought of giving myself a treat by getting myself a bespoke shirt.

I went to Fit & Match at The Curve. I had a conversation with Ron, the proprietor, for 1.5 hours as he measured me up and discussed details with me. This is an intense man who has very definite ideas of what constitutes fit.

He has 3 price categories of shirts. RM 150 for cotton and polyester mix, RM 200 for Super 100 2-ply, and RM 220 for Super 120 2-ply. I went for the middle category.

This shirt will be 100% "Made in The Curve" because Ron and his brother makes everything in-house, including the collars and cuffs. He has a RM 20K collar fusing machine in the workshop at the back (visible). If it wasn't so late now I would write more. He gave me an overview of the Malaysian tailoring landscape. It was very interesting. Most of it is confidential though, because he is disgusted by some big name tailoring houses (he told me why), including those mentioned here on this forum.

My shirt will not be of standard confection. I am not however allowed to tell people the special features he will give me. It's interesting he cuts the collar lining on the bias so that it is more elastic. He is still waiting for a customer who will walk in the door and ask for a hand-stitched shirt. He is itching to do one. (I told him I'm not liquid enough for that.)
