Yeah i'm going for regular alterations, one question.
How are they gonna make my jeans length shorter?
Are they cutting away the bottom part of my jeans to make it shorter?

Like the collar, but the pockets are not so good. Also, the cuff should be made narrower so it rides higher up the wrist.

You can just bring it to someone and have them reposition the cuff button to make the cuff narrower.

You can also have the pockets removed. It has nothing to do with formality.

I went to Za Altera today to enquire about altering my jeans (Straight cut) to a slimmer fit. Quoted price was around rm65. Collection period is 2 weeks (one utama branch).

look at this, click on the links to understand each detail better..

most importantly is understanding the type of fit that you want.. then understanding the type details you want (collar type, pockets? cuffs? etc).. i'd probably say additional attributes which makes a perceived good shirt is when they have mother-of-pearl buttons, split yoke..

ncie link. still checking it out. very detailed. haha. i went to lords tailor today as i plan to make my suit there. they quoted me around 3xx-4xx for a shirt. i saw a hugo boss dress shirt which looks cool but i dont really know what material it is made of. its black and a little shiny and has a soft touch to it, unlike the shirts i saw in lords tailor. any idea what maetrial is that?

stay away from smooth and shiny cloths for dress shirts, opt for full cotton..

not really a rule, its just the shiny one makes you look more like a P.I.M.P..
cotton dress shirts are feels better on the body, they don't stick on to your body (when you sweat), and they breathe better, and are pretty much more professional looking..
