I dismantled my XFX GTX260 last time the first thing I got home because I wanted to see how it looks like and replaced the thermal compound smile.gif It's very straight forward because the screws are all the same except for a few in the middle.

Will pulling out the heatsink damage the RAMs? Its got thermal stickers over them sweat.gif I also wanted to change the TIM but when I saw all the stickers between them I sweat.gif

those thermal pad on ram chip ? if its a new card its easy to remove, they havent melt ( dunno what terms to use ) so when u remove the cooler, they are in pieces (solid form). After you used the card for a period, dont think its easy to remove, those thermal pad easily stick to the ram and will split apart when u dismount the cooler.

even when its still new it doesnt clamp itself shut like those on a normal ram.

the kind they use on a gc is way more easy to dismantle.

but yeah what lichye said kinda true.if u run it at high temp for quite a while it tends to disintegrate when u take em off.

at least thats what happen on my 8400GM lah.those on a gc never break apart for me.

Well, those thermalpad is terrible only when it has a lot of dust there, it will break easily when u take the hsf off.
But i always put them back and working nicely too.
So far, i take off all GTX hsf before, evne it's 295 brows.gif

if you guys need picture guidance, let me know, i can post.

hows the temp after changing the thermal paste bro? any significant drop in temp?
*
I would say around 5c-10c depending on how good the cooler dissipates the heat

speaking of GTX295, what screwdriver did u use to remove those little ultra tight screws? as far as my attempts go, i pretty much destroyed all the head of my screwdrivers just by trying to unscrew the screws of GTX295

for current games like Splinter Cell Conviction and BFBC2

i think you should collect money and just buy 5870/400 Series instead

my GTX260+ is not sufficient.. for me la.. GTX260+ on splinter cell conviction runs at 30-50fps max.. you want smooth.. must get 60fps STABLE
