Western RPG is practically dead for quite a few years until recently...with the sudden boom in market. So now we have enough variety to cater to all the RPG fans, with 2008 ending in 3 more days. I already try my best to include all the JRPG which I have no clue about it....Vote & Discuss!

For me it's Bioware Mass Effect because of the storyline and the decision you need to make. Love the game theme too, playing the game make my wisdom +10. tongue.gif

2009 is not too shabby for RPG lovers, check out the list below...

We know Mass Effect 2 is definitely coming...just a matter of platform exclusivity. (this is not Too Human Yo!) Hopefully we get to see more RPG announcement like Lionhead new game or even better, Jade Empire 2 announce in 2009 e3~ Finger cross, as Microsoft don't usually announce their game till it's ready to ship.

What's your best one yet on 360 & why?

I play jrpg for 19 years... no doubt my life are for jrpg.

one of the best in my 360 so far. lost odyssey and tales of vesperia, off 360 console ps3 - dissagea 3 and ps2 - shin megami tensei series.

i'm not really big fan on wrpg.. coz they look more like action adventure games to me.

edit: I bought DS lite recently just to play chrono trigger although I finished it in famicom.. but it was worth for the sweet memory.

I voted ToV. Even though there were lots of wRPG's that I really really liked.

IMO wRPG and jRPG shouldn't be compared -- they should be two different sub-segments, cos when you buy a jRPG you have a different expectation of what game you'll be getting vs buying a wRPG.

its been a while ive not playing any jrpg.. hehehe and i dont think i play any of it on 360... but ive started playing rpg game since diablo... then hook by ff series and alot more on ps2... now playing fallout and looking forward to put my hand on the witcher... mmm... i guess maybe ive playing jrpg toomuch in the early days make me feel a bit bored of it now... lol.. but honestly wrpg feel like more fun to me.. hahaha... ofcourse they tend to make the character as real as possible which jrpg turn to be more imaginative with super hot looking cute character.. anyway now it depend on the gameplay and sometime rpg game make me wanna sleep.

Mass Effect gets my vote. it's a very cool space opera with nice storyline and plot twist.

i have stopped playing JRPGs since i dunno when. i find that there's not much innovation in them. plus the whole story is the same from one to another.

coming close behind Mass Effect are Fable 2, Fallout 3 and KOTOR (heheh.. i know it's not in the list)

Tales of Vesperia FTW!1!!

Mass Effects, Lost Odyssey and Last Remnant are good too.

Story wise, all of them suck, so no need to compare.
On the battle system, wRPG and jRPG are different, i prefer jRPG style.
Technical wise, wRPG always win.

Looks like Tales of Vesperia is leading.
From my understanding, the thing about JRPG is almost all of it involves level-grinding which has turn into a pre-requisite if you intend to finish the game, when I am being force to do that I am not having fun.

Come on, no more love for Mass Effect? The elavator lesbian sex yo!

Level grinding is acceptable granted the battle system is fun IMO . Some game like Final Fantasy 8 has shortcut that really cut through alot of grinding and possible to achieve very powerful character in a short time.

Mass Effect is good too , but isn't up to KOTOR level imo. Yes , the world in Mass Effect is much bigger, but often time they are repetitive. Kotor on the other hand had the best settings Ive ever seen, the ocean city, Chewbacca's forest and Sith stronghold.

Honestly , the current gen RPG still didn't came close to this

True that...
Mass Effect has good story but side quest is Zzzz....
Fable 2 has the best visual experience and entertaining side quest but story is..lol.
Fallout 3 sucky animation & character design but very immersive gameplay experience.

@Breakthru, no fallout 1 & 2?!? vmad.gif I think most of the rpg sequel nowadays couldn't surpass the original, except Fable 2.
The last time I bought JRPG thinking of giving it a chance is Enchanted Arms....the day I bought it, I traded in next day. laugh.gif
I might give Tales of Vasperia a go by renting it since many vote for the game.

@Hitman, Kotor is last gen yo! Kotor has better character development compare to Mass Effect, hopefully Bioware gona improve upon that in ME2 because I can't seem to care much for all the sidekick in ME1.

It's good to see such a spreadout vote...however I will be damn if someone vote Too Human laugh.gif

Too Human fails terribly as a RPG. For an action game, it's ok tho.

Btw, am i the only one on earth that think KOTOR is just ok? I mean, it's good and all, but my heart irks when i see people like worshiping it. I like SW universe, i enjoyed Jedi Knight series very much, but i just don't have that kind of feeling for KOTOR... The only wRPG that i have the epic feeling is Baldur's Gate series...

Matter of taste perhaps ? Ive tried most of the WRPG like Baldur Gate , Fallout 2 , Planescape Torment, Icewind Dale and Neverwinter Night . Somehow , I couldn't immense myself into them . Maybe my taste doesn't really fits into the culture, and also the insane amount of reading required.

The only JRPG i actually finished playing and love every moment of it is Suikoden 3...it's fun having to recruit all the weird people. (100 people there!)

...which is also why I love the recruiting part of Kotor & Mass Effect. biggrin.gif
