Try to ask for sample from the Origins counter. They are quite generous. I got a 7ml sample and it lasted me about 7-8 uses.

I don't think it will make skin oily...actually clay mask will absorb oil and make the skin smoother. That's my experience with clay masks.

hey there... yes its actually among the most expensive brand you can find here.

for me... i guess the whole range was not really that great to me.

I tried their skin kits for normal/oily skin. After using it for few months, I start to have more pimples. The longer you use, the more huge the pimple gets and it is painful lol. I have no idea why but due to that reason I've stopped using it for sometime. When I try using it back, the same thing occurs. So its almost much in my ban list lol, except for a few things. Their hydrating mask and corn scrub is good though. I'm still using this two things, coupled with shiseido men's cleanser and toner. My skin now starts to get much better and healing faster.

I have tried all their 3 cleansers, from essential cleansing solution (for dry skin), ultracalming cleanser (sensitive skin) and special cleansing gel (normal/oily skin). To be honest, essential cleansing solution doesnt clean well, still can feel a film of residue on my skin. Even if I use it alone, I get breakouts... so I'm very sure it isn't cleaning well. Ultracalming cleanser is among the most balanced cleanser. It is similar to using Cetaphil. The cleanser doesn't leaves your skin with the tight feeling after wash for 1 week usage. Soon when I use this product longer, it starts to dry up my skin. After wash, it made my skin surface to be rough due to the drying effect. So you can slowly feel that your face getting the tight feeling after using it longer. Special cleansing gel also dries up my skin. The first few use was good and nice, cleans very well. The longer I used this cleanser, the more dry my skin gets until my skin flakes! So I guess you probably know where the name "special" came from :/

Their toner, multi-active toner suppose to be hydrating and calming. But it does nothing like that to my skin. It made my skin dry and sensitive lol, and I suspect it also causes breakouts.

All I can say is their product seems to suit more to extremely oily to oily skin conditions, not normal oily like mine. My face used to be a little bit oily, but imagine after using them, it made my skin flake and dry.... its very strong stuff there.

My advise is, try their skin kit, for 1-3 months and see how it goes, if you get the similar effect as i did, don't bother trying up their other range despite what the SA tells you. Its your own skin, you should know your own skin condition much better than anyone else. The good thing is you can get great discounts buying the product in lowyat here and they even sell those smaller travel size, which is good way to test out the products. The bad thing? They keep increasing their price every year. So I feel that they are just selling their brand more despite the good ingredients. And did you know if you are a staff there, you get 50% off the products retail price? Usually the company itself would earn another 50% off their staffs, so the actual cost price is only 1/4 of the retail price. You are paying 3 times more for the brand, which to me is totally not worth it.

BUT... if you don't want to go through what I did (huge pimples, super dry skin effect), just hop to shiseido men's range. The foaming cleanser is very good so as their hydrating lotion for me.

jonny4: Now I just noticed something, did you notice that the shiseido men foaming cleanser, if you use the skin kit, it is much foaming than using the retail version? This is what I feel.

@kaspersky-fan, good post on your experiences with Dermalogica products. I always wanted to try but I think I'll just stick to Shiseido. After reading your experiences the more I want to stay away from products for oily skin as they are just too harsh.

I didn't notice any differences between the full size retail version and 30ml trial version in terms of foam or anything else. But I have noticed that the deep cleansing scrub (very similar to cleansing foam) lathers really well and I probably need only half of my cleansing foam amount.

Ah I see, the 30ml trial version I got was exactly as foamy as the deep cleansing scrub. So when I started with the retail pack, I could instantly feel that it was not as foamy with the usual amount I usually use.. hence I had to squeeze more out. Now that you mentioned about the scrub, I decided to try it again. Seems to be good this time. Since the particles are small and not much, I would say the scrub lies on the milder side. Maybe it would be a good pair with my current scrub, which is much rough. See how it goes, will finish this sample before I decide.

How much cleanser do u use anyways everytime u wash your face ? I use about a pea size amount, sometimes lesser.

I've actually been using the scrub once a day at night for the past 3 weeks and I am quite impressed with the results. Even though the directions say 1-2 times a week, for me I find it mild enough to be used daily. It works great as a cleanser too...it's more of a scrub cum cleanser and that appeals to me biggrin.gif

I'm using around 1 1/2 pea size of the retail pack to get the effect of using less than 1 pea size i get from the 30ml trial kit. The scrub only needed less than 1 pea size amount. I guess its time to test the scrub more... its still sitting on my desk doing nothing at the moment, lol.

Try giving your hands a good wash with regular soap and rinse thoroughly before lathering up the cleanser in your hands. I do this and there is usually more lather and I need less cleanser. But careful with the scrub...it works for me as a daily scrub but the results might be different for u.

I am monitoring my skin to see if the scrub is too harsh or not...so far it is no stronger than a regular cleanser. The Shiseido scrub is quite light and doesn't have much scrub beads, that's why I am using it once a day. I have stopped using toner/astringent for about month now and began using a scrub to exfoliate instead.

i've been trying shiseido hydrating lotion samples a few days now, so far i'm liking it. only problem is that after a few hours it starts to turn sticky on my face....i'm not sure why it's doing this but i had similar problems when using products with matte/oil control. when my gf touched my face she was like "did you put glue on your face?" lol. do you guys have this problem?

I only have this prob when I use too much hydrating lotion. How much do u use ?
It took me a few tried before figuring out the amount acceptable for my face. Right now I use a 5sen size amount (maybe lesser) spread between my hands and apply to face, concentrating the drier places like cheeks and neck. The remainder I spread over my t zone. First I pat dry then I massage in till dry.

i use about 10 drops total. 4 drops per side including nose and another 2 drops for forehead. am i using too much? it deoosn't feel like i've used too much though as it is about just enough to cover my face comfortably without stretching the lotion too thin.

IMO that's really too much hydrating lotion. A few times I poured out too much and the lotion took really long to dry and formed this sticky layer (like a mask) and made me real miserable the whole day. Unless u have really dry skin u shud try using less. U would be surprised as even a small amount of the hydrating lotion easily covers a lot of skin. Plus I feel that when u apply it bit by bit across the face, its hard to get an even layer. Try pouring the lotion in your hand, spread around both hands and pat onto face. It's faster and u get a more even layer. Based on my estimation of usage, my 150ml hydrating lotion could possibly last me 10-12 months.

Don't worry as the skin on your palms and fingers are quite thick and different from facial skin. As long as u spread the lotion around your hands and apply to face fast it wont be a prob biggrin.gif

Btw, I had the same exp as u with oil control products. My guess is the silicons and powder inside that controls oil wears out after a few hrs...that's why u get the oily sticky feel. The only one that seems to work for me is the Shiseido Anti Shine Refresher Gel. Its really pricey (RM135, 30ml) but I like it coz unlike others it aint a moisturizer/oil control...its just pure oil control with no moisturizing benefits whatsoever.

Hope it works out for u.

Yeah tried it today, its still the same tongue.gif as i usually wash my face when showering, so usually my hands are pretty much washed when its time to cleanse my face. For the scrub, I don't plan to use it daily, perhaps once a week together with another scrub, so it makes 1 normal scrub session with 1 mild scrub session in a week which makes scrubbing twice a week.

I had the same problem with you, but then I found out the method I used to apply on my face was kinda wrong. Usually I'll just give some gentle pat to my face, until its a almost dry and I'll just stop. Then I get sticky feeling on my face after few hours using it. After few times applying it, this time I pat gentle too but until its dry, I still pat until there is some sort of moisture feeling you get on your skin... almost something like you just finished bathing and pat your face with a towel that kinda condition on your face. Its surprising but I eventually feel there is enough moisture in my face. I only use at most 4-5 drops, and this is more than enough to cover your whole face. As usual, start patting at your dry areas first, followed last with t-zone. Hope this helps.

johny4 and kapersky fan, another Shiseido user here biggrin.gif

Been using for a year over but not so consistent. The only thing i use often is the face wash. I'm planning to get the scrub + the basic 3 soon. How much is the scrub alone now?

Btw, if i remember correctly, the sales girl at the Shiseido counter told me to use a cotton pad and put a few drops of hydrating lotion and then dab it on the face. I wonder which is the correct method?

I'm also looking for good sun screen lotions for before and after being exposed in the sun. Each time i come back after golf, i will be burned. tongue.gif

Lastly, about face masks, if i'm using deep scrub, it is still needed? If yes, do drop some recommendations.

Thank you.
