Well, the surround speakers also nearer to sitting position than center and front. The level also higher than the other. I think probably this is due to surround speakers are relatively small and won't be able to produce louder sound in order to match with the front and center. So i think need to boost it to match with them. But my sub is at -8.0dB. Volume is also at 12 o'clock and the freq cut is at 85Hz. But the setting for freq cut for surround and center is 40Hz. So I tweak it manually to 80Hz which makes sense sonically. But somehow after make some tweaking, the audyssey light turns to red instead of green. I believe the AVR recognises the setting has deviates from the Auto Mic setup. Not sure with the red lights on, the Audyssey will still running? Hmmm....

Richard,

If the Audyssey lights turns red, it means you are turnning the dynamic EQ On & dynamic volume Off. If it shows green, both EQ & Volume are active.

If you adjust the settings after running auto setup, the Audyssey will detect it and you can notice it on the display screen of your avr. The frame box of the Audyssey on the display panel will disappear. Check it......& have fun.

i know that Audyssey lights turns red, it means you are turnning the dynamic EQ On & dynamic volume Off. If it shows green, both EQ & Volume are active. But i meant the other light, which is the Audyssey, after i pressing the system set up button and actually juz do some checking for the setting, the light gets turn red after it. to be exact, is rite after the speakers distance setting part is out. Actually i did not do tweak with it. Anyway, since it is already red, then i juz set the freq cut for each speakers to match the exact output capability.

Coz Yamaha controls its own products unlike Denon, Marantz and Onkyo, that are being controlled by distributor.

If anyone owns the 4308 or 3808 AVR, you can get the unit's firmware upgraded to include Audyssey Dynamic EQ, Audyssey Dynamic Volume and HDMI Consumer Electronics Control (CEC).

The newer models, denoted by 4308A and 3808A, should already have these functions factory-shipped.

Bro, firmware is normally to rectify some issues. Your AVR-3805 is dated and it won't have any upgrade esp for HD Audio, which is basically about HDMI 1.3a compliant AV receiver. Time to get a new AVR wink.gif
