I am using the AVR3805. Any firmware update for this model to include Dolby True HD and DTS Master Audio? smile.gif

Bro, firmware is normally to rectify some issues. Your AVR-3805 is dated and it won't have any upgrade esp for HD Audio, which is basically about HDMI 1.3a compliant AV receiver. Time to get a new AVR  wink.gif
*
Yep...its outdated but still highly competent receiver. Btw, how much is the latest Denon AVR3808 series amp? Is it worth to upgrade just for the HD audio?

I knew. I owned Denon AVR2802 before. It was really a joy but the pricing for current Denon just make it out of my reach.

AVR3808 sld be near RM6K region since AVR2809 is abt RM4.8K
*
Current Denon pricing is absurd. Anyway, i am primarily playing mkv with dts and dd audio only so no point to change yet and even if i decided to upgrade, i don't think it will be a denon anymore. Denon makes great amp they are just too complicated to operate. I would like to try out other AV receivers because I think they are all equally as good for much less.

If you are planning to use PS3 to stream HD audio, then it should not be a problem coz it can decodes itself and transfer as multichannel to your old AVR. This way you are still get those HD audio signal.

But if plan to hook it up BD standalone player or Dvico HD media player, then I think should upgrade to HD support AVR, at very least is AVR-1909. Like they say, HD Audio compare to core audio is a huge difference even on a budget speaker set-up. Those hi-def sound will be much felt compare to HD-Audio which depends on your sitting distance or sizes of your HDTV to make a difference.

I think HTkaki should be able to comment on this as his Yammy Amp is frequently light up those Magical words feeds from Dvico.

I don't think i would go for the AVR-1909 because that is a severe downgrade from 3805. The 3 series is a very different class from the 1 series.

I am glad that you like your AVR1909. I'm very tempted to upgrade to those HD audio thingy, but so far not willing to pay for the high price of bluray movies. Will sick to my HD mkv collection for now...350movies and counting.smile.gif

Htkaki..its time to consider the new Marantz amp now..hehehe
cheaper and just as good.

Me too.....very tempted to get my AVR to read those Magical words out of its large LCD panel at front. Thats why I say now hands get itchy to get the Tvix Dvico 6500 to stream the HD-Audio like what HTkaki is doing.....upgrade from WDTV. But at this moment, the 6500 is way too expensive. I am damn sure its price will dips sooner or later. Other than that, it is a joy to enjoy my WDTV feed to my Denon AVR-1909.

Wahlau, 350 hd movies! It is like a dream to me..... drool.gif How can you download so lightening fast?

Anyway, you have to start collecting those un-touched BD ripped with HD-Audio around 30gbs at least. When ready, just grab the Dvico couple with HD support AVR, this is what I called TrueHD movie experience with those countless sources in your video library................

Rapidshare Premium 10Gb a day. So far my streamyx is going fast. rclxms.gif

Untouch Bluray rip...30-40GB is a little overkill for me now.

I like my 1800. Wont be changing it to Marantz.

I prefer BD Rips. Still have a bunch of mkv in my collection. At the moment, 3.2TB of these. Probably need to get 5TB more.

So you're like me...BRrips only. rclxms.gif

Msia tax....what to do bro??? sad.gif
*
Its not Malaysian tax...its the dealership. When you let a single dealership handle a product, this is what is gonna happen. The only thing we can do is boycott Denon product and buy other brand as there are other brand product which is just as good but at much lower price. Or we could sign a petition and send to Denon headquarters to protest about the pricing in Malaysia.

1909 anytime beat yamaha entry level AVR....

if u can get the 2xxxseries/3xxxseries better
*
Hey bro....what are you comparing here? The 1909 is also an entry level rec from denon. For the price of Rm1900, anyone can get the yammy 663 which can beat the shit out of the 1909. And the 2 & 3 series denon is way overprice in malaysia and for its price you can get way better performance rec from other brand.

My point is that you might prefer Denon, but that doesn't mean it will beat yamaha hands down.

wait until when lah....technology will never stop....

if u compare the price in Msia, denon is the cheapest compared to Marantz 5003,onky606 and yamaha 863 and pioneer 1018....(i group them in same range)

if new model come out, all will be 3k starting point again and u will wait until 2k+....by the time the price to 1k+, another new model will come out....a cycle....

for me BLU Ray is not affordable yet, hopefully it will drop to 15-20 bucks smile.gif(fake bluray..now RM45) at least my amp would be to decode it.....but at that time some new tech will emerged...

moral of the story....it will never end...smile.gif

i think the Denon 1909 is cheaper compare to those other receiver because the others are higher range receivers...am i correct?

Anyone knows whether the Denon AVR 3805 can bi-wire the front speakers and how? I try but could not do it.

(1) remove the existing cable / connection bar that connects your top and bottom terminals on your speakers
(2) connect the top pair of the speakers' terminals to "Front A" on your avr.
(3) connect the lower pair of the speakers' terminals to "Surround Back" of your avr.
(4) now assign the "Surround Back" amplifier to the front speakers. Not sure how your menu looks like on the 3805. Basically, go to "Option Set Up" and then "Power Amp Assign". Select "Front A" so that the surround back amplifier will replicate the output of the front A.

Hope that helps.
But I think my surround back it used up. I am currently setup for 6.1.

Hi Denon sifus here. I am currently using the Denon AVR3805 which do not have those Master Audio thing. Can I just buy a preamp or sourround processor that supports DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD and the connect the preout to my 3805 and use it as the amp?

That way I no need to buy a new amp because I am quite happy with the 3805 but only want to add the master audio features to it.

That way I can also upgrade to better amp later by just buying a new dedicated amp.

Yes, most of the processors are very expensive as it is for higher end market. Onkyo 5507 is about RM10K.

Cheapest processor that I know of is Emo UMC-1 : USD699

http://emotiva.com/umc1.shtm
*
That is exactly what is on my mind....the Emotiva UMC-1. So it can be done right...using the 3805 as the amp?

Does your 3805 have inputs to accept the pre-outs from the UMC-1? If so, I reckon it can be done.
*
From this picture it show the 3805 have 7.1 ext inputs so that means it can be use as an amp?
