no worries guys. My name can be easily ascertained from my sig link smile.gif

Fusion, i don't hv many suits. About 3 full suits and a couple of odd jackets which don't fit me well anymore since i lost weight. I'm going to make another i guess.

On a related note, as mentioned abt public enemies, the hidef video does the suits justice and u can see a lot of minute details since michael mann, the director, likes a lot of close ups.

it was a suggestion by them to have a different colour on the lips. I thought it was a good idea to hv something slightly different as well.

@netmatrix: I'm a suit-stalker, holding no interest in the person wearing it.
Speaking of which, does look like a pair of luscious red lips. Man-eater suit, so to speak.

Any possible full shots of your suit instead of macros?
*
i'll see what i can do. normally if the conditions aren't right, i won't take shots at all.

was pulling out an old sports jacket from my wardrobe (i think i bought it 6-7 years ago). didn't get to use it much since it was so bloody warm, never fitted me well and now i have even less reason to wear it since i've lost some weight and it's way too big for me now.

anyway i got this at zara that time. it was i believe RM499. made in china of some polyester material that feels like suede and really durable. half canvassed, double vented. even had working cuffs.

still using the term MTM for bespoke.. hmmm..

hey lanatir, hows your new Granoff suit going? =)
*
havent worn the suit yet. looking for a reason. maybe in a couple of months' time. hopefully i can maintain my weight. sweat.gif

anyway we shouldn't get too hung up about phrases and terms used. sure, it's a bonus - but many tailors in the country are trained locally and traditionally perhaps without knowledge from their sifus about the actual definitions of words being used. i've heard of some fantastic tailors in shanghai and HK using old school methods who i am sure are unaware of such words and phrases but still churn out good well made suits (and probably will swear at you in chinese if you insist that they change their signboards). what should be most important is a tailor that produces good quality products commensurate with the price - i'd rather have this one anytime over someone who can spit out the encyclopaedia of suit jargon regurgitated from google but can't produce the goods.

yupp true indeed, but then again they have to realize that this is their advertisement, they have to buy the customers first before the customers start buying from them.. with these kinds of advertisements, it does to some point show their level of involvement to sartorial knowledge.. so when people like me read about this, the first thing that comes to my mind is "how can they not know that, especially if they claimed they've trained in savile row?".. true they may indeed be very good in their craft but are just not familiar with these terms, but that's the impression they send out..

besides that, it is just plain misleading, because im actually seeking for a tailor who's doing REAL made-to-measure, so when read something like that, now im confused to whether it is actually really MTM or they actually meant "custom made"? many of the times i actually end up calling or sending an email to these tailors to clarify which one is it.. till today i've not heard of one tailor in malaysia doing proper MTM..

so in the end, are you going to avoid using a tailor simply because he doesn't know the 'correct words'?

"till today i've not heard of one tailor in malaysia doing proper MTM"

you haven't heard of a tailor being able to do proper MTM job or you haven't heard of a tailor being able to give you the correct definition of MTM?

Thats an interesting article. I didn't know that the 3 partners sold Spark Manshop to another company. Its like them doing a Jimmy Choo ya? But they were really the first thing that comes to mind when getting a tailored suit back then.
*
actually granoff sprouted from spark manshop (same owners today).

Sweeettt. But things like this seems to be passe nowdays. The new one is those corporate jackets. Look like this but made with poly/cotton/wool.
*
ah yes those. nevertheless, i love the jacket. especially useful when i travel to winter states. of course i can always go buy a big bike or something hahah. brilliant quality from this korean giordano though (unlike the local or HK ones).

I think Ting Lik has better suits than Hui Man Keong. But subjective as there are times Chow looks better. The most gaya for Chow would be his times as The God of Gamblers la. Or is it a Better Tomorrow Mark Kor?
*
To me, Ting Lik had flashier suits especially in the latter part of the series and the sequels. But CYF definitely had more presence and that fedora heheh...

No denying Tou San though. Mark Kor was more about trenchcoats.

personally ive tried lords and granoff, my lords suit was more classic in details but fit wasn't to my liking, granoff's details were a little more trendy but fit was really fitting (maybe even a little too tight).. so basically i like lord's simplicity and classic look, and i prefer granoff's fit..

*
i've seen people in lord's suits that are really fitting... and my granoff suit is not too fitting (probably due to the fact that i am not skinny and am a bit older... plus i want to be able to use the suit for a long long time as i grow older and fatter hahah).

u can give them time to do the suit... but don't give them TOO much time bcos then ur suit will just be pushed to the bottom of the pile (as low priority).

here's my latest acquisition from a most hated tailor on this forum, Bespoked smile.gif

my regular tailor there is actually Jerrick (i don't use Ian Chang). Jerrick's done quite a lot of my wardrobe for close to a decade so he's very familiar with my tastes and also the cutting i favour.

anyway, it took me a month... but here it is now, my new sports jacket made with a wool/linen blend. half canvassed, half lined, double vented, working cuffs. just collected it just now and i simply love it. especially love the viscose lining.

very nice.. the color and material looks great..

so basically which tailors have you worked with? i know Granoff and Bespoked.. what others?

as you mentioned you've worked with Jerrick from Bespoked for close to a decade but you still went and got a suit from Granoff, so do you like experimenting around or what?
*
i really like the material. it was suggested to me by Jerrick and, while initially i wanted a more common beige/khaki look to the jacket, i warmed up to this as i felt that a lot of my existing shirts/pants would go well with this. i believe the wool (and the weave) adds a little bit of crease resistance to the linen and the whole thing drapes well while providing a very reassuring 'body'.

tailors i've used? granoff, bespoked, decatano (where jerrick used to work. decatano also used to be called something else and i used another tailor a that shop prior to that), plus some tailor back in melaka aeons ago (when a double breasted blended suit cost me RM400 back then).

why did i use granoff? i was curious and i just wanted a change to see what else is out there. i knew of Lords but i also have been hearing conflicting reports about their work in recent times.

decatano sounds familiar, their the one in hartamas right? i think i read about them somewhere..

so basically which tailor would you best recommend?
*
decatano has a few branches i believe. the one Jerrick was stationed at is at sea park beside sunrise duck rice.

ok based on the one suit that i got from Granoff (and also one RTW i bought there)...

1) the choice of cloth is a bit better at granoff
2) i really like the granoff suit (with some extra minor details)
3) but i will still use bespoked (no complaints plus bespoked has visibly improved a lot since it first opened and their cloth range is improving all the time) as the primary because granoff pricing can be a bit high (though i won't rule out using the latter again)

but i don't expect to be making anything else for the rest of the year. pokai! unsure.gif

on another note, i was talking to Jerrick and he showed me a super 130 Dormeuil Aquaplan which has water repellant qualities. pretty damn nice cloth.
