I just came back from a movie and found the smaller robos sibling of the 2, had a bad scratch on its back. Red scratches and when I took it up to touch it, the patch were rough. I think the blood clot dried. I think they had a bad fight.  cry.gif

Now, how can I help it? Can apply any antiseptic (got such thing?) ? Where can I buy it? Now I really need to separate them both. Gonna be expensive. Another water bottle. Another running wheel. ANother bathing sand box.

It was weird. I frequently see them sleeping side by side. So sweet. And they can ended up in a bloody fight. My 2 robos siblings are about 5 months old.
*
You can apply antiseptic like Dettol but make sure you diluted it with more water than usual for your hammy and apply with a cotton bud. Or else he will be in a lot pain if the concerntration of the Dettol is too strong.

ohya, do hamster like to stain thier wheel...my wheel get super dirty after day or 2...doh.gif
*
It's normal once the wheel becomes their home instead of just the running wheel. They will sleep, eat, run, pee and poo inside.

That's RC (Russian Campell), not WW. And they are solitary. That's why they fight!

May I know how do you treat wet tail disease? I remember it happen to me once before and my hammie died. I wish to keep hammie again, and hope such things dont repeat.
*
Treatment can get from Vets but have to be as soon as you suspect it get wet tail disease. Symptoms like not active, didn't eat well and drink well, sweaty looking especially at the tail area, bring to Vets ASAP. Or else you can get the Survival powder to standby, give the hammy take the powder in diluted water in the syringe will help it to hang on till you reach Vets. If you not able to get the Survival powder, the can give diluted Isotonic drink to it as the last resort. They'll die with this disease is because they get dehydrated from the diarrhea and lack of nutrient as their body is very small and fatal will take place in very short time. To avoid them from getting wet tail is to avoid stress as much as you can. When the hammy follow you home, let it be alone first in the first few days depends on how tame your hammy is. Stress is a trigger to get wet tail. If you have a hammy died from wet tail, the cage and acessories should be disinfect with antiseptic like soak in diluted Delto and wash with plenty of water. You can research and get some info on this disease to help you spot out the symptoms. Better get a tame hammy as it will be good for you and your hammy in new home. Good luck!

hi every one..
i got one question here..
how to avoid ants to our hamsters cage/ tank??
i hate the ants which come to my tank and take some foods and water..
plus i'm worried if they will attack my hamsters..
*
Get KingKong ant powder. Also you can use petroleum jelly (vaseline) and apply a "invincible" line at the feets of your table.

This is currently helped me with my ant problems.

I am using a metal cage for my hamster. Seem like she got herself cut at the nose area. How come? I dun see any sharp edges in the cage.
*
She injured her nose when biting on the bars. Happens when you use a metal bar cage. And hamsters will get crazy when biting the bars due to the salty taste of the metal and rust.

Hi..i'm new here..need some advice..when cleaning the cage, where to put the hamster? last week when i put them in a jar, they were really scared, try to climb the jar, throw out all the food they keep in their mouth and their body get wet, maybe they were pissing each other, huhu, and poo all over the jar. hope can get answer from u all, thx
*
The jar is too small. If I put you in a toilet cubicle for more than 15 minutes and you cannot get out. You also will get scared too.

You can get a smaller tank and put your hammy in there while cleaning the cage/tank. Plus you can use the small tank as a transport tank.

you can always place your hamsters in hamster ball(one in each) when you're cleaning their cage. or, perhaps you can create your own playpen and place your hamsters in the playpen, so, they can just move around and they will be stress-free.
*
Hamster ball can work but don't put them in there for more than 15 minutes as the hamster can get stressed. Playpen is a good idea but make sure they can't climb out of it tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

Setup and build is two different things. So which are you looking for?

There are pics of hamster tanks at the 1st page and a few posts at the top with hiroko_jiayi's custom built bin cage.

Which kind of panda Hamster??? You can see the previous pages back about it, if the looks & the characteristic is the same as mine.

I asked the same question also.

^>^
*
Those panda hamsters that you can see in Pet Safari, Pet Wonderland, etc. Are mostly dominant spot/mottled black RC if they are small in size.

If bigger in size then it is black banded syrian or sometimes sable banded syrian. But syrian hamster are called Teddy Bear hamster more due to the likeness to bears.

as far as i know, only syrian will fight

do correct me if i'm wrong
*
Syrians, RC and WW are solitary. Means they need to stay alone.

Robos can stay in a group but better be in a same sex group (all males or all females) to prevent them from breeding and in-breeding (bro & sis, bro & mom, dad & sis, etc)

But there is sometimes RC and WW can stay together without fighting. They were together since birth and siblings.

Always remember to keep same sex pairs or groups to prevent them from breeding and in-breeding because too much breeding will shorten the females' life. Unless you planned to breed them but do read more on breeding first before doing so.

so if i want to add another 2 dwarf, will they fight? taken from the same breeder..
*
Same breeder doesn't mean same the same batch of hamsters. Age gap of the hamsters also a factor to consider. If your current hamster are older they will be territorial when younger hamster invade their territory. They will fight off the invaders.

You can try but be prepare to separate them if they do fight. Get an extra tank just in case. Before putting the new hamsters with the old hamsters, clean the tank and accessories. Put new bedding so that everything doesn't have any hamster smell. So that the hamster might not get territorial. It's a 50/50 chance. To take the risks or not is up to you.

is it ok to let them be 2gether?
coz never see them fight, play fight2 got la   biggrin.gif
they seems happy 2gether, sleep side by side,
hehe....
so are this 2 kind the same?
*
Let me ask you this. Do you watch your hamsters 24/7? Of course you don't see them fight when you're asleep. Hamsters are most active at night till morning.

Sleeping together doesn't mean they are happy together in the same cage.

Your hamsters is russian campbells. Anyway is your RC a mix of males and females? If it is, please separate by sex or you will get unwanted babies. There will be fights when the females give birth to the babies.

Looks nice but make sure it is hamster escape proof. Hamsters are escape artist.

Also do they like to chew on things? Scared they will bite a hole and escape on your cardboard box.

Added on February 19, 2009, 1:02 pmops... forgot to ask,
does hamster always drink?
my RC always drink, seriously drink alot, non-stop.
is that normal?
*
RC are bitey by nature. Not that he hates you. He could be scared of you and the other hamsters. He is being defensive.

Drinking a lot could means that the hamster have diabetes. Don't feed any fruits or vegetables with high sugar contents. Snacks also.

Better separate into a cage/tank each to avoids fights, death and in-breeding between son & mom, dad & daughter, son & daughter, etc.

wut type of hmster dat cn live happily together wif other?dwarves?
*
Robos and WW can stay in groups but must be from the same batch or siblings to avoid different age gaps (older hamsters tends to be territorial).

There is a chance that they will also fight. So be prepared to separate if there is fighting.

Also get same sex group to avoid unwanted breeding.

Sorry to say this but your robos could have gotten a stroke or an ear infection and that is why she is running in circles non-stop. And this nothing to enjoy watching.

From http://www.hamster-club.com/health.asp
QUOTE
Hamster Strokes

When a hamster has a stroke, there is some head tilt and sometimes the hamster may start running in circles. Strokes often happen during the night so the first sign is when the following morning the hamster is unbalanced and typically the head tilts to one side.

Hamsters who have suffered a stroke may live quite a while longer and lead fairly normal lives, although some head tilt may remain. Head tilt may also take place when the hamster has an internal ear infection, sometimes secondary to a respiratory infection. The hamster often tilts his / her head to one side and loses his / her balance, calling or circling when it tries to walk. Bacteria are the usual cause and treatment is with antibiotics prescribed by a vet. A hamster may also run in circles when in some cases it may have a brain tumour. Another symptom of a stroke is when a hamster acts normally and then all of a sudden enters in a sort of a ‘trance’ where it stops staring almost as if it is hypnotised. The hamster may need help with feeding and drinking, but should recover sufficiently after a week or two.

Also those green balls you're feeding them is not healthy for them. Better change to something else like Prestige Hamster or Harry Hamster.

Syrians are more the quiet type but they do make noise. They will make loud squeak when they are scared.
