Not sure about in JB but here in KL mostly all petshops sells them.

Maybe you can order online from petshack and they'll send it to you?

Some more you want to smuggle them out from there? Why? Cannot buy them ar? doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

Anyway smuggling small animals is against the law and dangerous to you and the small animals. Please don't do so and end up behind bars.

not pet shop. i mean bring home hamster/small animal from kl to sabah. I live in sabah de. My place is kind not a fan for animals but i really love them very much. i wonder if i went to kl for holiday and might find my love there but dont know how to bring the love back home. Somemore only a hamster and still need do so much procedure this and that. i just think why don't i just try my luck n smuggle him and either end up in 2 ways, 1. leave him behind or 2.successfully smuggled.

Too bad last time my place got Ferry go to West Malaysia wan but now no more because it sink already. If really got ferry/ship i will definately go for ship wan.
*
KLCC is a shopping complex in KL. I think you meant KLIA.

I think you better check with Custom before deciding to smuggle a hamster back to Sabah.

Also there are risks that the hamster will die due to stress from the traveling (car, plane, etc). Hamsters gets easily stress especially those from pet shops as they are mostly mishandled by the caretakers.

hi,

i need some advise here  icon_question.gif ..anybody ever leave ur hamster at home while u r on vacation or off station more then 3 days b4?
is it ok to leave your hammie for more than 5 days without any supervision. cannot find anybody to take care of my hammie while im going off station.. sad.gif thinking of leaving them with lots off food...the water i'm not so worry coz can tahan for 1 week....
*
They will be fine as long as there is lots of food and water for them to last them 5 days or more. Remember to clean their cage/tank before you so when you come back it won't be so smelly sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif Also make sure the air ventilation is good and there is no direct sunlight to the tank/cage.

i wonder if an automatic food dispenser will be useful for this situation. but, sure it will cost a bit
*
Dispenser will be good but there is a bad side to it if your hamster likes to chew on things and your dispenser will be destroyed in no time. Also the dispenser is also another platform for the hamster to climb and plan their escape sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

Anyway why so lazy in feeding your hamster everyday? You can interact with your hamsters and they will get to know you as the human that feeds them and for the hamster to build trust in you.

The fat robos is the alpha male or female. Usually the alpha male or female will get to eat first all the good stuffs and to mate with the females if alpha male first. The smaller robos is like the subordinate. This is common for animals staying in a group.

Usually they will fight to determine who is the alpha male or female in the group. That's why you see them in all kinds of positions, chasing each other and stuffs.

I see I see..
Its there a possibility that the alpha kept on taking the sub's food away and the sub's didn't get enough nutrients and die?

because my friend's gerbils did that.. the alpha take every single piece of food the sub hv in hands.
*
That won't happened. I used to have robos and they lived to almost their old age.

how to know if the bedding is enough? is it ok if just covering the floor? or should put as much as the floor can support coz i read that hamsters love to dig and bury them self.
*
Actually that depends on you whether you want to put till only cover the floor only or a few inches deep. In the end you have to decide how much you want to spend on beddings.

For me, I put till it covers the whole floor and its about 2cm in height. If your hamster is toilet train then the bedding can last 2-3 weeks with minor removal of soiled beddings.

my hamster is eating her own poo.. doh.gif
what can I do about it?
*
Its normal for hamsters to eat their own poo for some of the bacteria in the poo. They will also moved their poo to another location by putting it in their cheek pouch.

hi..my syrian just died last week.. cry.gif
and i'm planning to buy 2 WWs..
is there any suggestion for me?..coz i 've never owned any WW b4..
i 'm goin to buy 1 male and female..is there possible that they fight?..
and can we tame them?..like we tame syrian..bcoz my sister said that she don't want if cannot play with like syrian...  yawn.gif
can we feed them the same food as syrian?..like..vege..fruits..and especially mealworms..
thx.. smile.gif
*
One thing to know. Never ever get a male and female pair if you are not ready for the hamster to have babies. There is a lot of things to do when they are pregnant.

Please get same sex pair and also siblings to avoid fights.

WW can be tamed but not as easy as syrians. Heard that WW cannot eat fruits or too sugary veges as they are diabetic.

thx for your advise.. biggrin.gif
btw..if i wanna let them to have babies..what should i do when she is pregnant..?.and what's the symptoms so that we know she is pregnant..
*
Think about the outcome before thinking of breeding them. You will need to separate the male and female after mating. They will fight if you don't separate.

You will need another tank for that. Then when the babies are born you will need to feed them. Then after 1+ month you need to separate by sex the babies into different tanks. If they breed then it will be called in-breeding (incest to humans) which cause genetic defects and abnormal babies.

There are more information. Please read up before breeding them as there is a lot of things to do. It's not that simple.

yea,,i read some of the info before...
another tank stand by too...but i think i will go for 2 same sex... sweat.gif
2 male of 2 female will be better?... biggrin.gif are they will still fighting eventhough from the same mother..?
and for last..can i feed them mealworms?..how many do i feed them per day?..
thx alot for your infomation.. biggrin.gif
*
Males or females also same. Only that females have heat (same like woman having period) every 4 days.

You have to monitor them as they will play fight. If too serious then have to separate also.

You can feed them mealworms but gut the mealworms first with veges, dog food, etc before feeding to your hamster. The mealworms were feed with newspaper. This way the hamster will get better nutrition.

You can try feeding them till they don't want to eat no more then you will know how many they can eat.

The petshop gila put then together..

The pet shops don't care about them only care about making $$$. Also space is restricted too. Its impossible if they want to put each in a tank of its own.

hello guys,  got a problem here..

my sis hammsters  having a constipation(hard time to poop)..
the hammy just remain in weird position with its tail up(can also see its ass).
it just stays there for about 20 min now with its eyes closed..

is there a medicine for it? of just give something like fruits(papaya, etc)?
*
Is it a female? And do you have a male hamster with her?

If it is, then it is not constipation. Your female is on heat and the male got her aroused. Females will remain still and her tail up exposing her privates so that the male can copulate with her.

Your robos' fur look wet. Better give them some sand bath. They will like it.

Also don't feed them so much kuachi as it's not good for their health. Small quantity is good enough.

What that yellow thing your feeding them? Bread or cake? Don't feed so much too.

Better get them some real hamster food like Prestige Hamster or Harry Hamster so you can feed together with the vegetables you are already feeding them with.

good sandbaths are just so hard to find...most of them are all scented....does anyone here know which brand is good?
*
You can use chinchillas sand bath but avoid the chinchillas sand dust as it is too fine for hamster or gerbil use.

Currently i am feeding him Oxbow healthy feed, uncle Taro Smoothie, and fresh vegie and fruits daily..

Any other thing??

He is stayin in a small cage now...plan to change to habitrail Ovo..
*
Read that WW are prone to diabetes, so be careful on those veges and fruits with high sugar content.

Isn't habitrail ovo a bit expensive? And the ovo's size is ok for dwarf hamsters. Got others tanks which can consider. Like the tanks used by Nezu for her syrians is good also and the price is almost the same as the habitrail ovo. Or maybe a 2 feet tank which is on the budget side.
