Went to a pet shop at Ipoh today to buy a new cage and stuffs for my male hamster coz needa seperate both of them.. So the first thing upon arrive at the pet shop , FIRST thing i'll do is check the hamsters they sell there.. I saw a dead WW at the food bowl there and part of the body were eaten by most of the hamsters they put together.. really macam macam breed of hamsters they put together.. I go tell one of the worker there bout what i saw.. Guess what she said to me ? " Aiya that 1 ? saw wrong le... It was mixed breed de.. " I keep telling her i not buying the hamsters or what.. I said there's a dead body there.. But she's off topic -.- totally dumb . I told another worker about it .. and show to him.. Den only he throw away the body.. See how responsible those Pet Seller nowadays only care about money not even consider the pets' condition .. Pity those animals man -.-"  sad.gif

You haven't seen those in the big pet shops in KL. More worst and sad than what you saw there.

Sorry I can say any pet shops name in here due to the new law. Or else I will get warning or banned. Cause they deem it to be promoting pet shops etc etc etc... But if you know there are only a few big and famous pet shops in KL.

if they're syrians you MUST separate them. syrians are baciscally solitary. but, if they're dwarfs there maybe other factors like food, cage size or else.
hope this helped.
*
Yes you must separate if they are Syrians .

Dwarf hamsters also you must separate. Yes that goes for Russian Campbells and Winter Whites.

Only Robos can stay together if from young and are siblings (this also works for Winter White) as they might fight when you try to put another with an age gap. They are territorial animals.

my hammy suddenly turned aggressive towards her bf..

is it a sign?? drool.gif

i hav put them in the same tank since last 7months..

but they never had babies.. hmm.gif

rclxms.gif
*
A sign for? Marital dispute? shakehead.gif shakehead.gif shakehead.gif

Hamsters are not human. So they don't have feelings like us humans. They only have animal instincts.

They don't need companions with them. So they don't care if they are gf, bf, husband, wife, father, mother, uncle, aunty, etc... they will still fight.

So please do the right thing and separate them into different tanks/cages.

i mean,is it a sign that the female is pregnant??

her tummy seems a little bit bigger though..
*
Seems like she is if she gotten defensive. Better take the male out to another tank or else they will fight till one bleed or die. The male wants to mate with her again because instincts tell him that.

Just leave them alone for a few days to get used to their new home and environment first. They can get stress and get wet-tail disease.

They can only get that big if they are feed well before they are 4 months old. During that time is when they grow in size. After that period is their permanent size or smaller.

if u all dont mind asking, i was thinking to get one when in aussie to keep me company, but i stay in a hostel, my room has no window and kinda small.

will it smeel badly?
how often shud i change the bedding so that it wont smell so smuch,
and can they tolerate with cold? in aussie it gets kinda chilly even in room temp ..
thanks
*
If you clean away the bedding with the pee daily then you might not have a smelly problem. If left too long and you will have a public toilet environment in your room laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif But ventilation is important also.

If too cold (below 17 degrees) the hamster will go into hibernation. If wild hamsters they will be fine during hibernation as they have stocked up on food. But for domesticated hamsters, there will be a problem of them starving themselves to death during hibernation.

You need a young female syrian hamster for? I hope it's not for breeding.

Anyway have you seen the conditions of the hamsters and other pets in Pets Wonderland? Still want to buy from there? Also RM35 is expensive for a syrian hamster.

I've heard about the winter white changing color depending on weather, but i thought that only happen in country with four seasons? I heard that their fur will turn white during winter, but never expect them to change color in malaysia because malaysia's weather is the same all year round. No meh?
*
If you put them in an AC room 24/7, it can have the same effects.

its winter white. sad.gif and the m just left the f pregnant(coz my friend say now the f VERY fat).
2nd time pregnant ady.  sweat.gif
*
You already did the wrong thing by buying her a female and a male hamster. They will breed and keep on breeding till the female die from malnutrition or the male die from fighting with the defensive pregnant female because the male wanted to mate with the female. Also winter white are territorial hamster and you're suppose to keep 1 per tank/cage. There is always stress to hamster when there is another hamster in their territory.

Unless the winter white are siblings and have been kept together since young. Then there is a chance of keeping them together but remember same sex pair to keep them from breeding or in-breeding.

QUOTE(tyliang @ Jan 27 2009, 10:42 AM)
What breed of hamster is it? It is possible for that to happen. The cage might be to complicated and when the female/male got stuck somewhere and their partner might step of them will cause a fight. It happens to my winter white before but i manage to reintroduced them back after 1month.
*
Why were your cage complicated in the first place? Are your WW a male and a female pair?

Also why are you re-introducing them again if they are a male and a female pair? This will lead to them breeding again. The female will die due to too much breeding because her body can't cope with the stress of giving birth.

Please do the right thing and separate them to avoid your female WW dying, male WW dying, bloody fights, unwanted WW babies, defects in WW babies due to in-breeding, etc.

To my knowledge, WW are solitary hamsters and you cannot keep them together but there is a chance they can stay together if siblings and have been together from young.
