QUOTE(Angel86 @ Dec 25 2008, 11:01 PM) Thanks for the replies guys.I hope she rests in peace. That's sound more like wet tail disease than the hamster died from choking on her pee and poo.BTW,when she died, there was urine and faeces on her so i think she got choked. Is it possible?I dont think she has wet tail coz i kinda know how the disease is.What do you guys think? |

The hole is for you to poke the metal tube end through it so that your hamster can drink from.

Please be careful when feeding fruits to Winter Whites as they might get diabetes as they are prone to it. You can feed them veges more. You can try Taro Smoothie also.
QUOTE i wanna ask, their age for breed is how old only can? Not sure what you are asking here. But do you mean what is their age when they can start breeding? |

QUOTE(n_n @ Jan 2 2009, 12:26 PM) Have your hammy been digging a lot at a corner of the tank or biting cage bars? This is normal wear and tear. Sometimes the nose bleeding also.Added on January 2, 2009, 12:56 pm QUOTE(jovyn @ Jan 1 2009, 08:39 PM) guys...need for help here... 1. No need to change to other beddings. Also avoid changing bedding when the mommy hammy is pregnant. Can change when the babies are about 14 days old.my robo is pregnant now...1st notice was on 26th Dec...2day i see her belly onli 100% confirm she is pregnant...me now abit loss n nervous hope you all can clear my doubt here... 1. As im using corn cob bedding all the while...do i need switch to wood shred bedding? coz i feel corn cob bedding seem abit rough... 2. When is the best time to seperate the dad? will they be lonely if they alone??? 3. do we provide extra food like, vege, corn or smoothie for mummy during period of pregnancy? 4. i do sum research on the web... can hamster take soya and bread soak in low fat meal? as my hammy dun take egg n tofu... tried b4...but fail... 5. need to gib the mummy tissue to built the nest? can use plain shredded paper? thanks in advance~~~ 2. Separate quickly as the mom will get defensive and also the dad will try to mate with the mom again. They will fight. They are hamster and will not get lonely like us people. 3. Yes. There must be food 24/7 in the tank. 4. You can try protein powder for SG. You can try asking SG owners to sell you some as I know it's a big pack. 5. You can give it timothy hay also for her to make nest. I think tissue will be better than shredded paper. You can use toilet roll or kitchen roll. Also remove the wheel or any toys to prevent accidents for the mom and babies. This post has been edited by blurjoey: Jan 2 2009, 12:56 PM |

QUOTE(n_n @ Jan 2 2009, 12:57 PM) Biting the bars will lead to rust of the bars. And your hamster is biting the bars because he likes the taste of the rust. It's slowly poisoning him.It will also lead to nose bleed due to the bars biting. |

QUOTE(vchy @ Jan 2 2009, 01:49 PM) yep,two males,i might exchange one male with female with my friend, but, who cares, they are so cute^*^!!!storm is naughty, always wanna come out and climb to my hand^^ Not to splash cold water in your face. But have you done research regarding breeding WW or any other hamster? Do you know what is the requirements? What are risks? Are you ready to handle more than half a dozen WWs? Can you provided enough tanks & food for them? Can you give them all of your time? Etc etc etc...hamster are more cute than i expect^^... oh and btw, later im buying supplies for them, what should i buy?bedding, organic supplement anything else? Please research first or you will be coming in here asking questions and I can tell you that you might get answers and you might get flamed for being irresponsible breeding because "you don't care and they are so cute"! So consider properly and research first before breeding your WW before jumping into something you might not able to handle. FYI, WW are solitary hamster. Meaning only 1 WW per cage/tank. |

Sometimes they're not sure where is the water source is. You can train them to drink from the bottle. Never use the bowl as beddings and other stuffs will fall and contaminate the water.btw,WW is dwarfs or syrians?dwarfs rite? You can give them more veges so there is liquid intake. But I guest you already know since you have already done your research I guess. You've done research but you're not sure if WW is dwarf or syrian? Added on January 2, 2009, 11:49 pm QUOTE(konbawa @ Jan 2 2009, 11:46 PM) Yup! How else can they feed the babies milk if the females don't have nipples? But I think only in female syrians the nipples can be clearly seen. This post has been edited by blurjoey: Jan 2 2009, 11:53 PM |

QUOTE(odd_mochi @ Jan 3 2009, 12:00 AM) since my question was not answered...i decided to put the toy into Toby's tank after washing it with detergent [i dun hav vinegar]... You should try soaking the hideout in the dish washing detergent with a bit of dettol for an hour or so. Then throughly rinse with lots of water.and now he is pushing it around...trying to overturn it...and biting it! scared he will damaged his teeth....like...break it or something So far the best I've I found is the white vinegar and oxyfresh. I've also tried with coke & dettol but requires longer soaking period. No worries about hamster teeth as they are always growing. If he is chewing on things which is good for trimming it's teeth. You wouldn't want overgrown teeth as he will have problems eating any food. This post has been edited by blurjoey: Jan 3 2009, 12:14 AM |

QUOTE(vchy @ Jan 3 2009, 05:56 PM) Hamsters cannot take water baths. They can drown if you use the bowl to bathe. Also it will cause stress to them which can cause wet tail disease and die. Also they can get sick and die.Hamster are found in the deserts so where do get water to bathe? Only bathe in warm water as your last resort. WW can sand bath. Just get a deep bowl and pour sand bath into it to about the height of the hamster tummy. Your WW will automatically will go into and roll around. vchy - Please read through this thread first from page 1 and also the previous hamster threads. I really doubt that you even did your research properly. Also you can use google for more information. It's really easy. This post has been edited by blurjoey: Jan 3 2009, 06:12 PM |

QUOTE(heloelaine @ Jan 3 2009, 06:42 PM) guys, i wonder... how long a hammy can last without water? If you don't want to take the water bottle along then you can feed them fresh veges and fruit for their liquid intake.coz my bf will be taking care of my cookie while i'm away. Cookie need to travel by bus for almost 3hours. I scare she might get dehydrated if i take away her water bottle coz i scare the bottle might leak during the journey |

QUOTE(vchy @ Jan 3 2009, 07:22 PM) I think you really should do more research rather than 'heard from people' before you think of breeding hamsters, unless you want to have new hamster every 2-3 weeks as they are giving birth to new hamsters and died from the way you wanna take care of them and be a irresposible and an owner without any common and basic knowledge. If you are not good to serach for infos from the internet, then just read the first page of this thread, there is a lot of useful infos and basic knowledge for all new or beginner hamster owners. There's no excuse as "dunno how to look for info", only "laziness" will be the cause. PLEASE..... be a responsible owner for your hamsters. I'm sure you'll feel satisfied after you have learnt more and more with your own effort rather than being spoon feed by others. Gambateh! QUOTE(konbawa @ Jan 3 2009, 07:40 PM) no if they are not raised together since small. cz they donot recognize each other smell. or, u can try put both of them into a whole new cage tat both ww have no smell in it(separate them immediately if they fight cz no guarantee). I don't think she can proceed with breeding yet as she still have lots to learn about basic hamster care. if u wan to mate them, u can put both of them into a neutral zone where it is a new place to both of the hamster, and let them stay for maybe half an hour to try mating. of cos do hold a ruler or smthing to separate them if they fight. or u can put the female ww into male ww cage when the female is on heat, then the male will get attracted by the smell and mate wit it instead of bite it. normally female ww is more territorial and more fierst. #posted by Sangels# This post has been edited by blurjoey: Jan 3 2009, 07:57 PM |
