Is that a syrian?

If it's really a syrian, i think the mushroom water bottle not really good for them to use right. The hole too small for them to put their head in and drink..

between dwarfies it is ok to breed...but make sure you don't breed dwarfs and syrians...it won't work even if you try. but don't even try for that matter! winter gold is hybrid? what, mixture of syrian and dwarfs eh?

Breeding between dwarf hamster is a nono unless same species.
Lol at the bold part laugh.gif
Winter gold is hybrid smile.gif
QUOTE
Though there is another hybrid gene which is obtained when you breed a Winter White and the Russian Campbell, (known as the Winter Gold hamsters here), expert hamster breeders would definitely never encourage you to breed Winter White’s with Russian Campbell’s, as it would spoil the Winter White line.

i wouldn't suggest breeding hybrid with a non-hybrid. like ww and winter gold. the offspring won't have a pure breed then.

Mixbreeding hybrid and non hybrid only makes the value of the hamster breed getting lower and lower right?

yes,true...the breed won't be pure...you'll be more proud to say that you've got a pure breed rather than saying you got a hybrid, right? and chances of getting disease might be high too, i wouldn't knw abt that...but there may be high chances.

I was at Pets wonderland (Mid valley) the other day.
Was browsing through the hamster corner when I sported something red.
That is where I found one of the Syrian hamster chewing off his mate's head/butt.
totally disgusting.
& very irresponsible of the staffs there.
from the looks of it, the dead hamster has been there for quite some time.
if the staffs has been taking good care of the pets there, these wouldn't have happened.
Lucky the cage was located above the eye level of a kid.
it's definitely an unpleasant sight.

secondly, does hamsters have taste buds?
as in do they know what they're eating is sweet? bitter? or smelly??

I gave my hamster quite a number of fruits before.
Mango, grapes, apples, guava, & DURIAN! XD
but all of it in a very small portion.
my hamster loveeeessss durian.

& I give him one big almond daily.
my mom fed him an abalone flavoured macadamia nut when i was out for work =_="
she said he liked it.
well my hamster eat practically anything.
even ice-cream =P

It's common for pet shop hamsters to eat the dead. They have no sufficient protein in their diet. Many pet shops feed sunflower seed diets or worst, chicken feed diets. These diets are poor in nutrition and fat and the only way the hamster could stop its craving for nutrition is by eating it's dead tankmate.

What hamster do you have? Dwarf campbells are prone to diabetes and should never be given fruits that are high in sugar.

Almonds can be toxic. If you are unlucky and were to give an almond that had a bitter taste, your hamster could die. So.... avoid giving almonds. Best you just stick to peanuts and cashews.

And no ice cream either. You sound like you did not do research on hamster care.

If you read, syrians are SOLITARY. Even if they are siblings, they actually are better off living alone.

Syrians are big and already Habitrail Mini got the word mini there... which is only suitable for Robos and mice. Even WW and RC finds it hard to run in the mini wheel.
