Gues its confirmed not a syrian. After reading, its confirmed to be a Campbell Hamster. Black Spot/Molted Russian Campbell

1. Small Size
2. Red eyes
3. The nose type
4. Colour
5. Most of the comments ive read also saying its a Campbell

hehehe...Thank you all for helping identifying it.

Now can give better care to them. 1 is Moomoo and 1 is Pikpik. Got any other people use that name arr??

Just bought a bigger Cage today.

Hopefully they enjoy it.
*
Your's is a mottled RC... Careful yah, cannot breed 2 mottleds together, later get eyeless and teethless hamsters.

QUOTE(DoremiMimi @ Feb 6 2009, 11:09 PM)
Hello...

Can i mix winter white and winter pearl? are they hybrid or it's ok?
*
Yes, you can. Pearl is not a hybrid but a WW mutation.

From the Second post in this exact Thread...Posted by nezumitaro

It says Dont Breed Hybrid with Pure.

So i guess

(WW) Pure+ (WP) Pure  = OK Coz non of them are Hybrids.

But

(WG) Hybrid+ (WW) Pure = a No No

This what i understand....

Correct me if im wrong...Im also still researching info about Hammies.
*
That picture is mine, not nezumitaros....

You can keep hybrid ww and ww together but you shouldn't breed them together.

QUOTE(pikeydude @ Feb 7 2009, 01:43 AM)
I just came back from a movie and found the smaller robos sibling of the 2, had a bad scratch on its back. Red scratches and when I took it up to touch it, the patch were rough. I think the blood clot dried. I think they had a bad fight.  cry.gif

Now, how can I help it? Can apply any antiseptic (got such thing?) ? Where can I buy it? Now I really need to separate them both. Gonna be expensive. Another water bottle. Another running wheel. ANother bathing sand box.

It was weird. I frequently see them sleeping side by side. So sweet. And they can ended up in a bloody fight. My 2 robos siblings are about 5 months old.
*
You can use mild, very very mild detol. The water must not be white like how we normally use. Anyway, fighting can be many reasons.... space maybe? How big is your cage?

What about Campbells? I been keeping my campbell hammy from small.. alone for the past 1 and half year.  Would it be a good idea to intro another campbell to his tank? Can tolerate or not?
*
Better not. Campbells and WW are quite territorial and when it comes to new tank mates... it can be a risky act to intro another one. It depends on luck too coz some may not attack the new comer. It is better and wiser for you not to give it a tankmate. Also... it is near its lifespan.... Campbells go to about 2 years....

Anyone would like black syrians? I'm not selling but recently a petshop I know got some adult breeders dumped at his shop.... he pity them so letting go at RM5.... as you can see, the price is cheap till will become snake food. I'm not sure if any are left, I manage to get hold of 3.... blacks are rare.... so it would be a pity of they become a snake's dinner. If I go back, I would rescue back more but coz of space, I cannot keep all. So anyone who would like to volunteer? And this is if there are any left if I go back to the shop this coming week.

oops! silly me! btw,i think habitrail safari cage is way to small for two campbells..and fitting two wheels in that may make the cage even cramped...but, i think if two habitrails are there then its fine.
*
Its true.... too small for 2... unless its like 2 cages connected then ok lah. I still prefer using tanks than cages for myself.

My fren told me she saw a solid black in carefour wangsa maju last month
Any1 wan2 check if its still there?
Im drooling for a calico tongue.gif
*
Sometimes got black in carrefour. I saw also banded black.

calico won't be able to get here now. Last time can.... say 5 to 6 years ago when Pets Wonderland Midvalley imported hamsters from holland. I was able to get a tortie syrian but due to inbreeding, she had a very short life.

QUOTE(Sophiera @ May 7 2009, 03:03 PM)
I'm noticing that in Malaysia there are a lot of banded hamster in petshops

It's like I can never find a real pure agouti syryan anymore. I love that colour the msot sad.gif
*
Bandeds are common here coz petshops don't care how they are bred. In Singapore, I was told bandeds are not so common but that info was years ago. Maybe now more common lah. If you are lucky, sure can find solids. I come across lots of solids.

But if you place a solid and a banded in a box and ask some kid to choose, they would go for the banded.... coz got pattern, looks cuter than the solid.

QUOTE(RyoKenzaki @ May 7 2009, 03:06 PM)
In fact i have never seen any color aside from cinamon banded and sable banded in pet shop
*
You need to follow me when I go hamster hunting loh. You can see different colours hahahah..... mink, creams, umbrous, golden, black....

QUOTE(babechris44 @ May 8 2009, 07:32 PM)
i need sume help!!i am having a pair of robo hamster.i noticed tat my hamster got some bloods at her anus. wat happened on her?
*
Is it a male and female pair? If it is, then its probably due to mating. But it is only a little blood stain, never continuous bleeding. If the bleeding is bad, it could be due to fighting..... or it could be a rectal infection. If you can, send to a vet if the bleeding is bad.

QUOTE(mizer @ May 10 2009, 02:08 AM)
hmm i mean what should i buy.
just wanna know what you guys buy for your hamsters.
btw, bedding is the place whr hamsters sleep right ?
hmm not so experience in this.

The first page of the thread already has the info. We put info on the 1st page to avoid confusion and also it helps newbies to learn. So instead of asking and waiting for replies, just read the 1st page lah.

Aiyah, today free lo.... but the forum is very messy to read at some parts.... need to slowly scan.

I've stopped breeding for awhile due to my breeders are old, then time also lo..... but will be back to breeding once I'm done with my training but it would take awhile coz need to search for good hamsters.

Solid females.... hmmm... i'll look out for you lah.

Do you keep your hamster in a place where is cool and mostly not much sun light? Coz that will cause a WW to change their colour. No worries coz it is a normal thing. Just never let the temperature drop too cold.

QUOTE(yana_adell @ May 19 2009, 11:52 AM)
hi there,
i have a male WW & he always sleep.
after eat, sleep..
after play, sleep,

does he need a fren??
or is there any way to make him active..

& last 2 days i put a toliet sand in his cage.looks like he doesnt use it
for pee, but to bath.. ahhaha.. naughty boy!
any recommended to solve this matters??

Added on May 19, 2009, 11:54 amWAHHH..

Wat a big zoo u have there..
Good job babe..
Wat kind of Hams u have??
Any WW female babies to let go??
*
No.... he doesn't need a friend. If you intro another WW to your current one, most likely a big fight would happen. Hamsters memang mostly eat and sleep and run on their wheels.... that's their natural routine.

To toilet train, I realize not using wood shavings works better. I use Breeders Celect, then non-clumping cat litter as toilet sand. In the litter box or bowl, I put all the dried poo I find, and also some wood shavings with the hamster's pee. Later on your hamster would get used to the idea.... but it depends coz not all hamsters like to keep their cages clean hahaha.

has been a while happy.gif
jus catching up from whre i left~reading dis topic whole morning~

i jus wanna share, regarding bedding,i used chipsi lemon b4 (wen im a noob n din do research, sry dun flame me>.<),it was ok,besides de mess.

wen i used up de chipsi lemon,my brother got de apple(>.<,sorry sorry),and that was wen i started reading forums and hamster website(cz my hamster is pregnant dat time),and got to noe dat its bad.

ok,so back to my point,i have a very sensitive nose laugh.gif a lil dust n i'll sneeze like hell!
on the first time i use the chipsi apple,i was sneezing so badly but i do not noe whre it comes from.
1st time with de new bedding,my hamsters seemed to not like it AND dey bcame aggresive!
following weeks i soon came to realise that the bedding is causing me problems, wenever i go near de cages,i'll sneeze~

it was until i read from hamster thread b4 den i change and choosed BC~

wub.gif tq very much, dats my story,u judge for urself now~

p/s: my doctor did confirm dat de bedding is causing me respiratory problem~beside chipsi, last time wen i visit my fren (she's using sum brand called living world),i had de same sneezing thing~
p/p/s:do not question me den y im ok with lemon~

like my fren say,of cz ur hamster wun die straightaway wen u put dem into pine bedding~dere is so many ppl who have hamsters out dere n dey survive with RM5 bedding~
r u a good owner? sleep.gif
*
Good you switched to BC.... the small animal one is called Back to Nature.... same company that produce BC, just different shape pellets. Anyway, wood shavings will have chemical reactions when it is mixed with those perfume.... lemon, chlorophyll, apple.... all can give us different reactions. Once I read about this girl who had a pet rat that died and she cut him up, the liver and lungs were enlarged, meaning damaged by the wood shavings it was living on. Of course it won't happen over night coz her rat lived for a few years.

The lump can be a would that turned infected internally, it can be hardened tissue or it can be a tumour. It has got nothing to do with jumping and falling from the cage bars since the distance is not too great. Get to a vet.

It is normal for hamsters to put their food straight into their cheeks coz they are hoarders. But if your hamster is in pain, it may reject food and have lack of appetite. So not much you can do but just get hold of a vet tomorrow. Treatment can be anything from Rm20 to Rm100 depending on how serious it is.

Guys, i need help~~!!!

My hamster's right eyes area looks wet. It's like there's tears around the eyes area.
Somemore, i notice the hair around that area is darked. Anybody know what's wrong with it?

Please help~~~
*
It could be a few things. Dust from shavings.... eye infection or close to getting flu. If possible, get some saline solution from the pharmacy and wash the eye. Drip a few drops into the eye and take a clean soft cotton bud to dab it dry. It would be best to take to a vet but that would be something like first aid for now.

QUOTE(gothic_sushi8 @ Jul 26 2009, 05:04 PM)
I was at Pets wonderland (Mid valley) the other day.
Was browsing through the hamster corner when I sported something red.
That is where I found one of the Syrian hamster chewing off his mate's head/butt.
totally disgusting.
& very irresponsible of the staffs there.
from the looks of it, the dead hamster has been there for quite some time.
if the staffs has been taking good care of the pets there, these wouldn't have happened.
Lucky the cage was located above the eye level of a kid.
it's definitely an unpleasant sight.

secondly, does hamsters have taste buds?
as in do they know what they're eating is sweet? bitter? or smelly??

I gave my hamster quite a number of fruits before.
Mango, grapes, apples, guava, & DURIAN! XD
but all of it in a very small portion.
my hamster loveeeessss durian.

& I give him one big almond daily.
my mom fed him an abalone flavoured macadamia nut when i was out for work =_="
she said he liked it.
well my hamster eat practically anything.
even ice-cream =P
*
It's common for pet shop hamsters to eat the dead. They have no sufficient protein in their diet. Many pet shops feed sunflower seed diets or worst, chicken feed diets. These diets are poor in nutrition and fat and the only way the hamster could stop its craving for nutrition is by eating it's dead tankmate.

What hamster do you have? Dwarf campbells are prone to diabetes and should never be given fruits that are high in sugar.

Almonds can be toxic. If you are unlucky and were to give an almond that had a bitter taste, your hamster could die. So.... avoid giving almonds. Best you just stick to peanuts and cashews.

And no ice cream either. You sound like you did not do research on hamster care.

Can we put syrian hamster in habitrail mini? I have 2 of syrian hamster. Adult i guess. They are sibling, so far i got nothing problem to put them in 1 house. Thx..
*
If you read, syrians are SOLITARY. Even if they are siblings, they actually are better off living alone.

Syrians are big and already Habitrail Mini got the word mini there... which is only suitable for Robos and mice. Even WW and RC finds it hard to run in the mini wheel.

ice cream is made of dairy... milk.... hamsters cannot tolerate lactose very well. Also, come it's the sugar content. Even diabetic people should not eat ice cream. An animal's body is more sensitive than human, so alot of things can effect them internally. You cannot see it, but your hamster may suffer internally. Avoid giving human processed food to animals.

QUOTE(heng84 @ Aug 3 2009, 04:15 PM)
hello fellas , have had my roborovski 3months ago...  last month it gave birth to 4 pups.. all eaten up!!. and last week gave birth to 5-7 pups. woke up nx morning left back 4 and another day left back 2, after that decided to seperate the male, i tot it was okay... but only for 2 days.. after that both oso gone. i was like WTF?  what is wrong ???
ive read over the internet about the caring guide for new pups etc.

things that ive done.. ever since the first 4 pups got eaten,
feed boiiled chicken once every 2days, topup its hammy food everyday,
never disturb or touch the pups oso, never frighten the hamster.. just walk near and see only, never change the floor bedding oso.
the hamster gave birth inside the small little house inside the cage. the small little house has transparent top so that i could see.

did i do anything wrong? the only reason i know that is when the hamster felts threaten or lack of protein then it will kill the pups.
someone pls enlighten me thank you.
*
Your female is trying to tell you something. it doesn't want to be a mother.

You lack of an important info. If the female eats up her pups after you have given proper care, iot doesn't mean she feels threaten or lack of protein. It either means the pups have some health problem and she is culling them to avoid losing energy to nurse them or she doesn't want to have pups. So now listen to her, learn from her and do not BREED her again.
