QUOTE(patryn33 @ Feb 4 2010, 09:22 PM) china made, quality is a hit or miss... U must have read ck77 post on his homage purchase. his is custom build still like that. I totally agree with patryn33...IMHO, no doubt Tag produces good watches but I think they're not really value for money. Its expensive cos Tag spends huge money on marketing/advertising. I'd chose Fortis or even Sinn anytime compared to Tag....so many ppl wearing Tag...I think its losing its exclusivity! or get something german eg http://www.watchseller.com/vollmeru5.html http://www.gnomonwatches.com/Dievas.html http://www.longislandwatch.com/Dievas/Dievas_Watches-1.htm THank patryn33! Added on February 5, 2010, 11:03 am Added on February 4, 2010, 9:28 pm looking for value for money don't go with Tag, Tag is expensive. Fortis is well build and was chosen by russian for space mission. even some military ppl use it. CK is cheap, sure! Fossil make their watches.. most likely done in Philippines or China. Zenith is renown for the El Primero movement. Tag is using El Primero on their caliber 36 which cost US$7.9k and up. Rolex had El Primero on their Daytona till 2001. This statement in bold I don't get it. This post has been edited by khopl: Feb 5 2010, 11:03 AM |

IMHO, the only nice tags are the cheapest of their line, the F1 designs. too bad they don't produce auto F1's but again, the price wouldn't be the same if they do that. Besides that, i don't really see any TAG that is worth mentioning (design, not movement) except maybe for its Grand Carreras.

It all depends on yourself and your preference...and perhaps just as important ur bugdget. If I were to buy a watch along that price range I would prefer to opt for other brand cos: 1) Firstly I'm not a Tag guy...I dunno why the brand doesn't appeal that much to me althought I know for a fact they produces a fine line of watches. Like I said, I love the Grand Carreras and that's the only one I'd consider getting if I had to get a Tag Heuer! 2) For that price range, I would go for Sinn, Fortis, Guinand among others as I think they are more exclusive...meaning not many ppl own them (esp not that many in this part of the world! can get everywhere. Well, that's just my opinion...and if you're a Tag guy and you really like it then by all means go get one! Good luck and do share some pics of it when you get one! |

exclusiveness.. speaking of that. Rolex is pretty exclusive but honestly you can spot them anywhere now. exclusiveness is just up to the wearer's point of view. Tag? even worst. Everyone is wearing or owns them now thus making them less exclusive despite the fact that they produce high end watches as well.
As for me, i would believe in my own taste rather than feedback from people. After all, you are the one who will be wearing it not them. Like i said from my post above, the F1 line might be common among us but as long as you love it, then stay with your decision. Another factor would be value for money. To some, they might prefer a watch that has better value. For example, take Omega Seamaster and Tudor Grantour. Both is around the same retail price yet one has value and the other has design. So, what would you choose? |

at end of day, its your watch......you must know why you buy it...
a lot of watch lovers will tell you why buy this brand and that brand...and many times they are right....but always buy what you like.... buy what you can afford...its a never ending..chase....you might be tempted to fork out few hundreds just to get a better brand....and then some one will tell you...with the price...why not pay a bit extra to get better brand? and so on and so on.. Movement is very interesting thing....a main criteria for watch lovers....first thing they'll do is to ask about movement... But is everyone a movement person? No. So you need to ask yourself....if you really like a design, and the brand has reputation for durability, and pricing is not bad...but movement is something not attractive....do you buy it because of the design...or dont buy it because of movement? At end of day, its your watch...do you get excited seeing the design and wearing the design...or you're very particular about what is beating inside? WE have to admit..to some people...chronographs and multiple hands is more important that if its a 7750 or a lower ETA... Basic point...ask around, browse around, especially if you're forking out more than 1K for a watch...but at end of day..buy what you like... ITs true..Fortis and Ball are better `value for money' for watch people...but at end of day...if you're really impressed and in love with a Tag....and found one with an acceptable pricing....it's better you go for it...Dont wear a Fortis or Ball just because watch lovers say its better...buy it only because you're totally convinced this is something you will want to keep for long time... As for investment..remember, this is not a case of one day if you sell you make money...Only an elite group of watches have that characteristics.....and they are usually very very expensive to start with...or it takes a very experienced watch person to know that this particular design will be very popular and limited..blah blah blah....To us novice.......good `investment' means buying something that is lasting, reliable and will not lose you lots of money when you resell......But then, when you do homework properly and buy what you like..no reason to resell mah! Also, buy something that will remind you of an occasion.....after all...a watch serves as a great way to remind yourself of something/someone for past 2 months, i've been reading, browsing forums....and i know..one day, i will find what is valuable to me...and me....Hopefully, it will be a piece that will also impress people but first priority is me...hahaha!!! do browse many forums and talk to experts.....check out forums on brands like Oris, Ball, Fortis, Hamilton, Sinn, Mido...and then..there is the Omega, Tag, Longines...and once in a while...browse the IWC, Panerai and Rolex forums ...hahahaa!!! and then there are those brands with names of people..that we cannot even pronounce...and buy..hahaha Added on February 6, 2010, 7:36 pmis this true by the way??? QUOTE(Hoegaarden @ Feb 6 2010, 10:16 PM) to those sifus out there... what did the specs say? some watches spec state a watch can gain/lose 15 secs every 24hrs. so in 7 days over 1 min is possible.about time keeping for automatic watches. after around 1 week i wear it, the time slow about a minutes... izzit normal for automatic watches? im a bit confuse im wearing ML pontos automatic... those on 7750 usually does pretty well +/- 5sec every 24hrs. my zenith elite manual spec states +1min a week, but in fact its doing +1sec every 24hr. |
