I did and the only relevant thing i found was with the officially unlocked phone (maxis i assume) you can use GSM simcard based carriers around the world......i dont travel much so i dont think this would apply to me

With due respect, either you just skimmed through or you just read some of the pinned threads only.

Before I got my first iPhone, I read each post in every pinned thread which hence helped me not just bought the right one from the outset but also enlightened me in so many aspects of the iPhone which I reiterate is imperative as it is not just any smart phone.

The reason I deduced that is, if you have read thoroughly, you would have gotten the answers to your questions.

For you and others who post questions without reading the pinned threads, can I ask whether do you guys ever wonder why most of the time, no one seems to bother to afford any answer and/or solution???

The only thread which is really geared towards people who haven't bought the iphone yet is this thread... reading through all 42 pages would take quite a while (esp if i have to read all the pages on all the pinned threads) ....id assume all the vital info is updated on the first page by whoever started the thread (and ive read the first page of all the pinned threads) ....however if your saying that the info is spread over all those pages id also assume that there would be some people who would be willing to give me the info right off the bat. Im not a tech specialist but im good at fitness and on bb.com (bodybuilding.com) id help anyone who asked for advice in a thread that i checked (back when i checked those forums on a regular basis). when i was buying a pc ppl on this forum gave me all the info i needed and more and i eventually bought my pc based on LYN members recommendations....id assume, ppl will be just as helpful in this section too.

if ive missed an essential thread id appreciate if you could point out which one and id be willing to read each and every post.

Its just that i feel like my concern of maxis vs. lowyat plaza hasn't been properly addressed yet....

ps. im just kinda lost...i hope you aren't offended by anything ive said since that wasnt my intention smile.gif

thats what i was planning to do initially.....

but...

1) wait 2 months
2) tied to maxis plan for one year and many problems with maxis post paid plan ( i heard maxis sucks cuz lack of wide 3g coverage, internet bill goes up by itself, etc) (my friend uses u-mobile, says its much better)
3) i heard warranty is not valid once you jailbreak

if 2 and 3 not true im willing to buy through maxis and wait smile.gif

@alpham84,
So the price for a 16GB at LYN is RM2700?

You've oredi weighed the consequences so go ahead and get whichever unit you think is most suitable. Also, my advice is to go with an officially unlocked set because that will definitely safe you a lot of hassle.

PS: If U want, I've a brand new 16GB unit available for sale; match the LYP price and it's urs *smiles*

my friend bought his 32gb phone for 2700 and another friend who visited LYP was told that the 16gb us model is 2500 and the 2700 for the singapore model..... im still kinda confused though!

recently heard that if you already have a post paid maxis plan you can buy under that and no need to be tied to plan (only pay 2000!!!)...planning on getting my friend who has a maxis plan to buy under his name for me

any idea is its true that you can buy through someone else who already subscribed to some maxis plan?

@alpham84,
Your friend will still need to sign on a plan under his current post paid number to qualify to make a purchase.

SG & MY models are officially unlocked so it's okie to get either one; but US models are definitely locked so my advice is to go with either SG/MY/HK sets.

I have a friend who got an iPhone 3G 32GB as a birthday present but he is not an iPhone user, so he decides to sell it to me, but I wasn't convinced. Is it true there is an iPhone 3G with 32GB ??

Yes, your friend needs to sync her iPhone to iTunes first before she can use it unless the shop she bought it from already did it for her.

For the gift version, is it already unlock?
I have friends there coming back soon from US, would it be cheaper if i get it from US? Any pros & cons?

Apple website stated below:
"For those who are not eligible for an early upgrade or who wish to buy iPhone as a gift, the prices are $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB)."

hmm.. from my understanding, the gift one also still locked to AT&T.. I just ask my family to buy one for me.. what they do is, they bought $199 using AT&T.. then after 2mths terminate the line which cost $175 per iphone. so total cost around $375 excluding tax for 16gig 3Gs..

It may not be warranted but I'll give you a piece of advice.

Before that, let me correct you that for the iPhones with the latest bootrom, once you reboot, you would have to jailbreak again and that is called tethered jailreak. It won't be locked. If you do not want this problem, get a relatively new used unit, not with the latest bootrom from GS here. There are many going around. In that manner, you can also opt to buy the new iPhone due in the middle of the year without having to waste a really huge sum of money. If you choose not to change to the new model, at least you do not have the headaches that genocide stated and all those in the know concur.
