For the gift version, is it already unlock?
I have friends there coming back soon from US, would it be cheaper if i get it from US? Any pros & cons?

Apple website stated below:
"For those who are not eligible for an early upgrade or who wish to buy iPhone as a gift, the prices are $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB)."
*
hmm.. from my understanding, the gift one also still locked to AT&T.. I just ask my family to buy one for me.. what they do is, they bought $199 using AT&T.. then after 2mths terminate the line which cost $175 per iphone. so total cost around $375 excluding tax for 16gig 3Gs..

your best bet would be buying officially from maxis...
i know its all cheap and so on... but think about the person u going to give... if trouble occurs.... i bet u and ur friend will having headache trying to unlock and JB again...

dont let me start about tethered JB or new FW-that-you-have-to-wait-sometimes-before-u can-use-it problem....
*
hmm.. is it that bad? because I heard somewhere also that once u reboot ur iphone it will be locked again.. already ask my brother to check if they can unlock there.

It may not be warranted but I'll give you a piece of advice.

Before that, let me correct you that for the iPhones with the latest bootrom, once you reboot, you would have to jailbreak again and that is called tethered jailreak. It won't be locked. If you do not want this problem, get a relatively new used unit, not with the latest bootrom from GS here. There are many going around. In that manner, you can also opt to buy the new iPhone due in the middle of the year without having to waste a really huge sum of money. If you choose not to change to the new model, at least you do not have the headaches that genocide stated and all those in the know concur.

oic.. all 3Gs model come with this latest bootroom which we must jailbreak again once we reboot... hmm.. so far there is no perfect JB yet?

anyway, tks a lot for your valuable advise.

All iPhones sold by appointed telcos are original. It is only phones from certain countries which you need to unlock as they are locked to their service providers.

Not all iPhones sold in the States are unlocked. Only certain telcos have decided to sell the unlocked version.

Yes, agree with that.. at least u can easily search in any store for unlocked one. Not like last time where AT&T monopoly.

Errr ... this is from Buy.com and not from T-Mobile or other telco. They got the phone from all over the world from the said article and it's only for 16GB iPhone 3G (not 3Gs). USD$799 for a 16GB iPhone 3G? Izzit worth it?
*
its confirmed, but I cant support with any fact, my brother went to times square in NY and saw ipone sell by T Mobile.. unlocked one without contract..
