Max - the solution Maxis offer me is - Hand over the problem set to them , and they will claim 1 unit of phone from Apple , which take 1 - 2 weeks time . You dont have to give them the box , and Apple will check and replace 1 unit (Phone only) which will have diff serial # and imei number with the box u are holding.
I've question maxis -
- Why cant Apple exchange with a fullbox set with matching IMEI on box and phone . (Maxis replied - This is Apple policy and procedure)
- Why cant Maxis just open and change me a set with problem free phone and themself go deal with the RMA process within Maxis and Apple (Maxis replied - they are just a middle man getting stock from apple , this is Maxis policy and procedure)
- Why they wan me as a consumer to suffering all this RMA process (Maxis replied - This is the only solution they can give me)
I told maxis , In future , If I plan to sell off the phone , Buyer will suspect my phone will be either AP set or stolen set due to the box IMEI diff from phone
I've rejected Maxis offer above also due to - I'm worry to get a refurbish unit from Maxis / Apple - This is just 2 my cent .
If I not mistaken , Apple practice is to provide refurbish set for 1 to 1 exchange customer . Correct me if I'm wrong .
So now I can either selling off the iphone or accept the fact like others do or buy the apps which can solved the issue from APPStore which cost me USD$ 0.99 ......
Good Luck .
What you guys have been facing is pretty common with iPhone 4. iPhone 4 is like Windows Vista , its a failure for Apple. Anyway , just want to add. I've owned a lot of smartphones. Let me share you my experience with my Treo 270. Basically I bought the unit , for some reason the screen died on me and I called up handspring/palm , they arranged me for a 1 to 1 exchange. basically they exchange it with a refurb unit. What I did was , I get a receipt saying that unit was exchanged , I put together in the box. So when I sold it , i told the buyer the unit was replaced by handspring/palm and this is the evidence. In there its stated my old IMEI phone number and the new one . When they replace you should get a receipt or somekind

thanks for the reply. I'm holding onto my current unit until they give me a proper solution. I assume that a fix is already in the works, but we need them to speed up the process. As you mentioned, there is already a third party apps that can solve the issue, why can't Apple has it? Possible fix coming in iOS4.2? Anyhow, it's not good for anyone to sell any defect products and let the buyers going through the RMA processes. For this problem, I believe other countries are not as widespread as in Malaysia. Are we getting all the 3rd grade products?
Whatever Apple is telling you is a piece of lie. For instance the antenna issue and proximity sensor issue (yes I face those issues , but since the phone was give to me by maxis , I didn't bother making a big fuzz out of it). It cannot be solved something by software. Apple may say they fix it with iOS 4.2 , but trust me , they will tweak something so that it appears to be fixed - much like how they fixed the antenna issue with iOS 4.1 !
